"So Davin, are you still looking or you already found 'the one'." The man called Richy asked with his lips pulled up a little.
"The one what? Pig?" Replied Davin while bringing a glass of something red in it up to his mouth.
"Oh come on Davin don't act like you don't know what Richy means by the one." Another man cut in and stretched on the words 'the one' and wiggled his brows. Lilly had no idea what they ment by the one but she p but eavesdrop on the conversation. It sounded interesting to her.
Bethany was awfully quiet during the who time. She was still upset that Davin embarrassed her in front of everyone including the servants. As if that wasn't enough she found the lowly maid in his study, sitting comfortably on the chair. A chair which some of his comrades, the people who helped him run the lands, never got the privilege to sit on. Yet she found the maid there and Davin had no problem with it
Bethany had asked him why he had her in his study and he told it was to ask her about her hurt wrist. She was furious to know that he was still giving Lilly unnecessary attention. But she couldn't show her anger because she knew that Davin knew of how she deliberately stepped on the weak human's foot.
She has been there for him for as long as they knew each other yet at times he treated her like an outsider and it hurt her. She knew that he knew about her true feelings for him and he chose to be ignorant about it. But she was never going to give up, not now not ever. She was determined to have him fall for her.
"Well how am I supposed to know what you mean when you won't tell me what you mean Alex." Davin knew what they meant but he chose to act dumb on the issue.
"Come on." Alex said with a playful frown on his face. "We all know we are talking about your lady."
"And how is that any of your business?" Thdoinf sose friends of his were always trying to stick their noses in things that don't concern them. They didn't even care that there were other guests here.
"You should know by now that these two like sticking their nose in other's business." For the first time that night, Bethany said something. "Its like they can't survive without doing so."
"Oh come on Beth you and I both know that you out of all of us want to know the answer more than anyone." It was no secret among them that Beth had feelings for Davin. She wanted her feelings for him to be known so ladies would keep their distance from him.
"That is not true! Take it back?" Beth hit her tight fist on the table lightly to not disturb the others. Yes her feelings were known to all but that didn't give him any right to embarrasse her in public like this. It was shameless for a lady to showcase her interest in a man in the public's eye but Bethany was no simple lady, she could get read of anyone she saw as a threat to her. But she still had to keep her dignity as a lady so Alex had no right to talk to her like that at a table full of strangers. He might know how shameless she could be but these other men saw her as proper lady.
"Whatever you say your majesty." Alexander said so Beth wouldn't continue with her drama. Davin was just eating not minding the little tantrums that took place at the table. He was glad he didn't get to answer Richy's question because whatever it would be Beth's reaction would be a little overdramatic and also because he didn't want to answer.
after dinner some guests went to the guest rooms to rest while some started their journey back to their respective homes. Davin retired to his room and so did the others. He opened the door to his patio and stepped out of the room hold a glass and a bottle of wine. He looked out at the beautiful garden whose only entrance was through his quarters. He remembered finding the little human girl sleeping soundly on the garden ground.
He thought of the question his friends asked him at the dining table. He never used to believe in finding the one and he still didn't, it was just something his friends liked using to get on his nerves. They knew he never believed in love and that is why they liked teasing him about it.
Davin wondered how Lilly's wrist was doing and with that thought he made his way to her room. He found her on her bed sleeping. For a princess, she looked quite comfortable on a servant's little rough bed. He wondered how someone born a royal and was pampered all her life would handle the life of a maid so well.
He heard the sound of her calm heart beat rapidly change going fast like she was scared of something.
"No, no, not again please." He heard her whisper in her sleep. He came close to the side of her bed and saw the frown on her face before she started twisting and turning on the small bed. He was about to shake her so she would wake up but before he could, she fell from the bed and quickly went to stand on one the corners to hide.
Lilly woke up after falling from the bed. She had the nightmare again or was it reliving a memory. She sat up on the ground and looked out the small window to see that It was still dark. She realised she fell on her wrist and it started hurting. She poured herself water from the jag and drunk it to calm her nerves down.
Davin watched her from the Shadows. He wondered what she dreamt of that had her twist and turn to the point of falling off bed.Was her wrist alright? Why was he even worrying for her? She was just someone he wanted to have a taste of because she smelt heavenly. She meant nothing to him so why was he worried? Why would he care if she was alright or not?
He decided to leave her room before he would do something he might regret later. He went out of the mansion for some fresh air. He sat down on a bench in one of the gardens outside.
Something watched Davin from behind as he sat staring at the sky in the garden. It started moving towards him slowly then jumped on to his back.
"What are you doing Val?" Davin chuckled as his wolf pet playfully chewed on his arm. Valerie had the habit of playfully chewing on Davin's arm when there was just him and her.
Davin found her on the verge of death in the forest after being hunted by the humans. He nursed her back to health but she wasn't planing on going back to her natural habitat as every time Davin tried to release her, she followed him back to the mansion and he just kept her. Davin had four wolf pets including Valerie but she was his favourite.
