Capítulo 21: Awkward Phone Call

Apryl had hoped that if she left the phone alone, Keith might drop the call and let her be. She was was mistaken though because while he did stop the call, he didn't leave her alone.

After the call ended, she got a text from him which said 'Swipe the green phone button.' she didn't have a chance to process what he meant by this before he was calling her again. She frowned as she looked at the phone, she didn't want to answer but got the feeling he wasn't going to let her be until she did.

Bracing herself for it, she swiped the green phone button like he had said. The ringtone noise stopped and a different screen appeared on her phone, but she wasn't certain of what was happening now that she had done.

"You're really new to all of this aren't you." Keith's voice floated through the phone, but it sounded low and hard to hear, but not impossible with her increased sense of hearing.

"It's not my fault I don't know what I am doing." Apryl defended as she shifted the way she was holding the phone to bring it closer to her face so that she could hear better.

"Well ignoring someone when they're trying to help you isn't going to get you to learn anything any faster." She could tell my the tone of his voice that he was teasing her, but she didn't like.

"No, but I also don't like to talk to mean people who don't understand." She retorted. Her frown deepened when she heard him laugh on the other end of the phone.

"Fair enough. Fair enough." It was odd to her that his voice sounded different over the phone than she had remembered it sounded when they were in person. Was this a magic ability of cell phones? "So what's bothering you? It's usually not a goo sign when someone messages you and tells you that they are drowning even in a metaphorical sense?" Metaphorical? she wasn't sure what that word meant, but chose to ignore it and instead answer his question.

"Kind of everything. Money or lack thereof rather. Family, well extended family as they are helping us out. Not sure where to start even once I am enrolled in classes and such." She told him. She didn't mind telling him the general of what was going on, but didn't feel comfortable going into too much detail. She wasn't close enough to him to feel like she wanted to divulge everything to him.

"So, its not just you who's new to the area, but your whole family?" He clarified. Apryl nodded her head to reply, but realized that she needed to verbalize it because he wasn't there to see her face.

"Yes, except for my extended family, aunt and uncle. All of just moved here."

"So you don't have money and stuff.. well that's important to know. Some of that stuff isn't so stressful." Keith assured her although it didn't really help her to feel better. "Maybe if you can come by the college tomorrow I can help with a few things. There are ways we can afford to pay for your college without having to tax your family, especially if they're still adjusting to everything."

"What about a job for me?" Apryl asked. The silence that followed on the other end of the phone made her feel as though he was going to give her an answer she didn't like.

"I'm not sure honestly. You don't really have any skills that I know of that you could use to get a job. But I can ask a few people on campus if they'd be willing to hire a new student who needs extra support right now and see what they say, but don't get your hopes up." Keith replied, though by his tone she could tell he wasn't too optimistic about that. "The most important thing is getting you enrolled in classes first and getting that sorted out and then we can figure it out from there."

"It's not just me I need help for." Apryl followed up as she shifted on the bed so that she was sitting in a more comfortable position. "We brought two omegas with us, they're family and I need to help figure out resources and options for them as well." She internally winced when she said 'omega' it sounded worse out loud to her when she was saying that to someone else outside of her pack.

"If you're asking if I know other werewolves in the community who I could connect you with, I do, but it would take a bit of time because a lot of them are still cautious of unfamiliar wolves." He told her. Background noise from what she could hear on the other end of the phone made it sound like he was typing on a computer as he was talking to her. "Sorry, I work better when I make lists of everything that I need to go over. Most of it sounds like stuff we should talk over tomorrow. In person may be a better way to go over everything." He told after another pause.

"I have been helping my mom around here a lot, but I should have some time in the morning that I can stop by the college. If I get accepted tomorrow, I will need to come there anyways." Apryl agreed even though she wasn't thrilled about going over this in person where other people could overhear what they were talking about.

"Until you get over phones, we may be better at keeping communication to text to physical anyways." If Apryl was in wolf form, her ears would've been flat against her head as he went back to teasing her again.

"I wasn't the one who called. I would've been happy to let it be until another time." She snipped back with a slight huff at the end of her sentence.

"Aww. Someone doesn't like to be teased about what they don't know." Keith snickered on the other end of the phone which only proved to make her more defensive. "It's alright, you're a quicker learner. In the next week or two you'll probably learn a lot more than you expect to." His comment did little to change her mood following his teasing.

"It doesn't feel like it." She told him. He was quiet again for a moment before speaking.

"Don't think too hard about it. It'll work. I need to go now, but meet me on the campus in the morning and we'll see what we can do. Before I hang up, on a note of phone etiquette. You should remember hello for answering and goodbye for leaving."

"Goodbye then." She told him, her tone short to which he laughed at again before saying 'goodbye' himself and hanging up.

Apryl set her phone done once she was certain the call was over. Whether she wanted to or not, she would be heading to campus the next morning. Maybe it would turn out to be for the best though.
