Capítulo 3: Heading to a Reunion
Sunagakure
The Village Hidden in the Sand, or Sunagakure, one of the five major villages on the continent. A village with tough terrain, tough shinobi, and people alike. But now the whole village is celebrating for that the Kazekage has returned, alive and well. Though they were frightened that the Kazekage died but were relieved and sad that lady Chiyo gave up her life to revive the Kazekage.
Now to the topic that everyone passes in the grapevine. This machine outside the walls of the village. When the people and shinobi heard of the machine, people had rushed towards the gates to have a look while being wary since the machine killed an Akatsuki member easily. People came by and went, being awed and satisfied with their curiosity. They touched the sides and front of the tank. The crew would let a few, mainly shinobi stand on the tank or sit on it, but never inside.
After a few hours, the Kazekage, his siblings, and his former teammates went to the gates. They began conversing with one another and gave their thanks to each other. Then the Kazekage looked at the crew and Naruto. Bible and Don rose their eyes, but Naruto jumped down and walked to the Kazekage. Standing in front of the Kazekage, Naruto gave a salute much to the confusion of the others.
"No need, Naruto. I wanted to thank you for saving me. You've done so once, and you saved me now. I'm in your debt." Gaara said.
"Uh, you're welcome Gaara. Though I have to say, it's been three years since I last saw you, and the last time we met we uh..." Naruto explained but Gaara rose his hand.
"It doesn't matter, after you stopped me in the chunin exams, I began to change my ways to become a better man. And now you must return home, I wish you safe travels" Gaara finished before raising his hand a second time for a handshake.
Raising his hands in response, Naruto grasped Gaara's hand and shook it. They both gave each other a smirk and then Naruto turned back and returned to the tank.
Looking back Naruto asked, "Are we going or what?"
"Hm, yes we should Naruto" Kakashi responded with that smile in his eye.
Saying their goodbye's to the Kazekage, the group along with Temari, for business purposes, began to head to Konoha. And thus, started their long, hot journey to where Naruto lived. Through the sandy dunes, both parties were quiet. Their heads full on what has happened yesterday.
Naruto's former shinobi friends would cast a glance at Naruto, who was behind a slightly bigger 'barrel' object than the one to his left, fearing that he'll disappear again from three years before. Naruto noticed their glances and gave one in response. They quickly turned their heads and continued on their way.
"This is weird" Naruto whispered to War Daddy's ear.
"Tell me about it kid" War Daddy responded.
"It's just that I never anticipated that I'll be back here again" Naruto explained.
"Well deal with it"
"What do you think I'm doing!" Naruto whispered.
"Being a bitch, go strike up a conversation. You need friends your age"
"Fuck off, dad" Naruto sarcastically replied and then turned back to the shinobi group.
"So... what have you been doing all these years," Naruto asked.
"Nothing much, just searching to find you" Sakura coughed out.
"That cool" Naruto said.
"Is that all you have to say, we thought you were dead" Sakura berated.
"But I'm alive aren't I" Naruto nonchalantly replied.
"Yeah, and your disappearance had a huge impact. Some of your friends fell into depression" Sakura stated.
"Well, I'm sorry. I didn't know my disappearance would have that much of an impact." Naruto retorted.
"Now, now let's not fight" Kakashi interrupted as he stepped between Sakura and the tank.
"Listen to him" Naruto mumbled and then faced forward.
"So Naruto, what did you do while you were gone?" Kakashi asked.
"Uh, nothing much. Just fighting in a war that we've never seen" Naruto replied.
"Oh, you fought in a war with them" Kakashi guessed.
"Yep," Naruto confirmed.
"*sigh* I never expected you to fight in a war. Especially at your age" Kakashi said.
"It's sad, and trust me I've seen some horrible, horrible stuff" Naruto added.
Naruto then turned his head forward and looked down at his 50. cal and he could remember, yes he would.
Flashback
"Wake up kid, we're moving out"
*groan*
What happened next was that the new member of the 'Fury' found himself in the ground. Clenching his left side of the chest, Naruto got up and began to wipe the sleep off his eyes. Looking around Naruto could find the person responsible for kicking Naruto off his bed and to the ground. Looking up at the person, Naruto recognizes that it was War Daddy who shoved him off and was glaring at him.
"Got off your ass, we're moving in five" was all that he said before leaving.
Getting up, Naruto began to look around and rushed to get his gear and, if he was lucky, get chow before five minutes. And luckily Naruto did get all his gear in check. He left his area and left to go in line at the camp, where Naruto was staying in, cafeteria.
"Ah, my boy. Over here!" a voice called out.
Looking to his right he could see one of his 'friendly' pals, George. George was a British man of the 323rd battalion. He was 6'0 foot and was lanky and some areas but was unexpectedly fast. Running up to him, Naruto gave him a high five and began to converse with George. When they got their chow, they both were off to their squads.
As Naruto was about to head off, he bumped into someone. Looking up Naruto could sigh if he just ran into one of the 'non-friendly pals.
"It's you. You're far away from home" the man said, wrapping his huge arms around Naruto. Naruto could wince as he could smell the alcohol from the man's breath.
"Hey, are you in a rush?" he asked with a laugh in the end.
"No" Naruto responded.
"Don't lie to me boy. I have kids at home and I know when kids lie" the man said with a little hiss in the end.
"Ok, yes I have to go to my squad" Naruto reasoned.
"Oh, going to kill people again" the man stated
"No, I never-" Naruto was then cut off.
"Shut up with that. I fucking bet that you're responsible for Pearl. Did you enjoy it when the Arizona blew sky-high, huh"
Gone with the playfulness of the man as he suddenly lifted Naruto off the ground, choking him.
"I-I, gah" Naruto tried to speak but couldn't.
He then fell as the man let go of him. As Naruto was caressing his throat, he received a kick to his stomach. The man began to walk off and mumbled to himself but only to where Naruto could hear him.
"My brother died in the Arizona"
Catching his breath, Naruto began to limp to his tank unit and magically made it with a few seconds to spare.
"Alright, we received our orders. We're to head north and capture a small Italian town and settle down there. Expect German and Italian resistance but we have the British and the partisans with us. Any questions?" War Daddy asked in the end.
Naruto and the rest of the tank crew, Naruto hardly recognized them anymore but Grady was there, shook their heads, and quickly went to their positions in the tank. Naruto got on top of the tank and mounted the .50 cal. He felt a hand on his shoulder, looking to his right he could see War Daddy looking at him.
"Look, I know you haven't been here for long but I want you to know that I don't want any fuck-ups got it. Now remember, just aim through the circle before the line of the gun and if they're far just lead with the tracers" War Daddy said.
"Understood" Naruto meekly replied.
And with that, the tank and a few squads of men, trucks, and tanks began to move. After a few minutes, 30 minutes exact, and they were passing a hill until the town was in sight.
"Spread out" War Daddy ordered.
The tank began to push through the road and the other tanks began to traverse through a field to their right while the ground troops cooped up behind the tanks. And slowly but surely, we began to arrive but it was quiet.
*boom*
"Mine!!" a soldier called out.
Looking to his right, Naruto could look in horror as a tank to the right was up in flames. He could see the driver hatch open, but only a burning hand could reach out before falling inside the tank.
*Phew, phew*
Immediately ducking, Naruto could hear the discharge of the guns as the town buildings began to flash. Looking to his left he could see the unfortunate soldiers get cut down, blood shooting out and helmets rolling in the ground.
"Naruto shoot the buildings" War Daddy shouted.
Naruto quickly aimed, but couldn't see the enemy through the windows. Taking 'Dons advise to heart, sprayed the windows, and followed the tracer rounds.
*boom*
Naruto shook on his legs as the 'Fury' shot its shell to the building and destroyed half of it. 'Such power' Naruto thought. As Naruto looked around he could see men charge into the buildings while some were taking fire outside in the field. Naruto was about to put his fingers into a cross until a hand stopped him.
"Don't" was all that War Daddy said.
Naruto obliged as he understood why they didn't want him to use his jutsu, so the only thing he could do was watch and shoot anything in the buildings.
Five minutes later
They were on the other side of the town, clearing up buildings and dealing with the enemy. He saw some horrific sites along the way. A newly dug trench of unmarked graves, the dead cattle. But the worst one of them all was the very first experience of 'what a man can do to another man' as what Bible would quote.
On the outskirts of the town, there was a barn, and next to the barn was a 'Panzer IV'. It was well camouflaged as it took out a 'Sherman' tank in front of us. The 'Fury' tried to take it out but with the tank in front of us, we couldn't get a clear shot. Naruto could hear a distant explosion near the barn and he knew the tank was dealt with.
Looking out towards the barn, he could see the American troops surrounding it and shouting at it. Naruto squinted to get a better look but War Daddy warned him "Don't look, for your sake". He should've listened.
Soldiers were banging on the barn, shouting for surrender. And what Naruto could make out, was a shout of another language. Naruto was about to look away until someone arrived in front of the barn. He was carrying two metal tubes combined to look like a backpack. And on top of the backpack was another tube that connected to a small gun.
He shouted 'Stand back!' and gave out a grin as he pulled the trigger. Instead of regular bullets as what Naruto expected, but it was different. Out of the gun came out streams of fire and lit the barn on fire. The walls and the roofs were lit aflame, and Naruto could hear the sound of the dying.
On the doors of the barn, he could see them trying to barge it open. They managed to barge it open and the burning victims came out, screaming and dying. Some fell and some stepped over those who did, and the person flaming them focused his fire on them. For a few seconds, they continued to scream until they all fell dead.
The soldier went to the open barn and lit it aflame and Naruto could hear more screams of pain and suffering. Then for a split second all of the windows and small openings of the barn soon exploded and fire emerged out of the openings and now the barn was fully ablaze. The soldier stopped firing and began to head forward to where he was needed next.
And just like that, the battle was over, the village was theirs and Naruto had lost in his mind. He could not understand everything that he's come to learn about the true definition of war. When the tank stopped and the crewmen got out and began to do their own thing, Naruto sobbed.
It wasn't until a hand landed on his shoulder. Looking to his right he could see that it was War Daddy.
"This is your first time seeing war. Don't let it get to you, it's just what happens when people hate one another. You're going to see this happening non-stop until someone stops it. And guess what kid? That's exactly what we're doing. It may not look like it but we saved lives capturing the village. Get some rest kid, we move out tomorrow."
After his speech, War Daddy left and left Naruto to himself. Naruto could only chuckle to himself as he continues to be amazed about this world continuously, even when he first arrived in it.
End of Flashback
"Naruto, hey Naruto!" Kakashi shouted, distracting Naruto from his first experience of combat.
"Oh yeah what, wait where is everyone?" Naruto asked.
Looking around he couldn't find Team Guy or Sakura, which only left Kakashi and Temari. Temari was on the right side and keeping quiet and occasionally gave a glance towards Naruto, as if he would disappear again.
"Oh well, you see. They ran ahead to give news about your return." Kakashi said.
"Oh really, Hmph" Naruto responded before returning to his memories of his combat experience.
'That expression on his face, it's similar. Like one who's seen the horror of war. Just what did you do while you were gone Naruto?' Kakashi thought to himself as he began to worry about Naruto.
Konohagakure
As the sun was rising, the two village gatekeepers were on watch. Looking and booking people who entered and left the village. It was a simple job as it would get boring and the gatekeepers would have to make up their entertainment. But it all ended as Team Guy and Sakura Haruno ran past them without any warning. Which left them confused but then returned to their activities not knowing what's to come.
Entering the village both Team Guy and Sakura decided to spilt up and began to spread the news of Naruto's return. Sakura went straight to the Hokage to tell her the news and Team Guy began to tell the 'Rookie Nine' about Naruto's return.
Entering the Hokage building Sakura didn't even knock on the door as she charged in with her shoulder, breaking the door. And through years of the Hokages habit, she quickly ducked as a Sake bottle flew above her head.
"Sakura what is it now, can't you see I'm busy" the Hokage growled out.
Looking at her now, Sakura could only frown as she observed her mentor. Lady Tsunade, one of the Great Sanin was sitting at her desk with a pile of paperwork but mostly a Sake bottle in her hand. She knew from the start that Tsunade had been drinking again instead of doing work. And it all started when Naruto was first reported missing. Tsunade always saw Naruto as the grandson she never had, and seeing him disappear during the Sasuke Retrieval mission made her depressed. Making her drink while her assistant, Shizune does most of the Hokage work. But that all was going to change.
"Tsunade you're not going to believe it but..." Sakura said but was cut off.
"I heard" Tsunade mumbled.
"Y-you did?" Sakura asked.
"Yeah, that you like Sasuke Uchiha" Tsunade mumbled as she swayed a bit in her chair.
"No, it's that we save the Kazekage and we got some help" Sakura continued.
"I see" Tsunade mumbled again.
"*sigh* Tsunade, it's Naruto. We've found him, we finally found him" Sakura finished as tears began to form in her eyes.
"I-I what" Tsunade stuttered as she looked at Sakura.
"We've indeed found Naruto, he's on his way to the village gates. I would come and wait there" Sakura teased as she began to head out. Looking back she could see Tsunade hastily get up and began to follow her as did Shizune.
As Sakura and the Hokage began to head towards the village gates, Team Guy all went their separate ways to tell the 'Rookie Nine' the news. In an open area, mostly used for training stood Team 10. Consisting of Ino Yamanaka, Choji Akamichi, and finally Shikamaru Nara and here they stand training.
But they quickly turned their attention as a few bushes rustled and out came Rock Lee and Tenten of Team Guy.
"Oh what are you doing here, I thought you were on a mission" Ino proclaimed.
"Yes, we were and we finished along with some great news!" Rock Lee shouted.
"Oh, what is it then?" questioned Shikamaru.
"We've found Naruto!" Rock Lee shouted.
It was soon followed by silence as all of Team 10 began to take in the news.
"No way, after all these we finally found him?" Ino questioned.
"Yeah, he's about to arrive soon at the village gates" Tenten urged as both she and Rock Lee began to head to the village gates. They too were followed by Team 10, most of them deep in thought as they were going to see their friend for the first time since his disappearance.
Neji was heading to a nearby creek which was where Team 8 trains. Entering the creek area, Neji could see both Kiba and Shino sparring while in the back area was a girl wearing a baggy jacket and was striking a wooden post.
Neji could smirk as he thought of the girl. Her name was Hinata Hyuga, his cousin and the heir of the Hyuga clan. And he could only smile at the thought of her hearing the news of Naruto's return. It was no secret that Hinata had a crush on Naruto. And when she heard the news of Naruto's disappearance, she was the most depressed out of all the 'Rookie Nine'. But she quickly came out of it as she thought that Naruto wanted her to be strong and move forward. So she did as she focused hard on her training. It was now that Neji decided to make his presence known.
"Greetings I've come with great news" Neji called out.
The rest of Team 8 stopped what they were doing and turned their attention to Neji.
"Oh, what's up Neji. You just came back with your mission" Kiba asked grinning.
"Yes, along with some news that should intrigue you" Neji stated again.
"Oh, and what is the news that you wish to share" Shino silently asked.
"We've found him, we've found Naruto" Neji stated.
Looking back, Neji could see Hinata standing still with her hand near her chest. He could see tears form in her eyes but she wiped them off and looked back at Neji again.
"Neji, you better not be messing with us" Kiba declared, growling quietly.
"It's true. He's about to arrive at the village gates. I would hurry so you don't miss him" Neji said before turning around and left.
Team 8 quickly followed as did Team 10 along with their jonin sensei's as Might Guy told them the news of Naruto's return. Each of them heading to the same destination, with hope brewing in them as they can't anticipate Naruto's return. But as Neji said, Naruto is arriving and it could take a while.
So when they all arrived at the village gates, they could only stand around and wait patiently for Naruto to return home.
