Capítulo 7: 7. Research.
I bought myself a couple of cheap but decent shirts and some pants along with a bag to hold my things. Still annoyed I can't store things in my ring but whatever. I also bought myself a second waist pouch for storing magic crystals.
Heading back to the inn, I had already paid for a week in advance. I drop off my clothes. Most of my valuable things like my money would stay on my person for now, but I don't need to carry around clothes or my weapon cleaning equipment.
Dropping everything off at the foot of my bed I grab the cleaning kit and swing the sword around onto my lap. It had a bit of dried blood on it and some goblin chunks in a few places that I cleaned off before giving it a polish and checking for any dings in the blade. Luckily this thing could take quite a bit of damage, Cloud was able to cut through metal and stone with this bitch so some goblin bone should be fine.
Relaxing back into the bed I settle in for the night, I don't have anything to do as I've already been hunting through the dungeon today and Rose needs time to gather up information on the various Familia. So I'll be meeting her tommorow morning to go over monsters on the second floor.
After washing my dirty clothes and hanging them to dry for the night I relaxed with nothing to do but check over the various guns in my ring and sort through the materia. Some of it is quite destructive, and it's also a weird material. It's like a stone and can fit into the slots of weapons however it can also meld into the skin like some strange liquid. However the second method draws energy from the body while the first draws energy from the air.
"Some of these will be useful." I look at a couple of orbs and hold up the first one.
"Cure, Cura, Curaga, Curaja, Regen." This one heals physical wounds for a single person or a group and can add a healing effect that is constant when used. The higher the spell the more it heals.
The green orb melts into the skin of my arm and I can see a glow under my skin.
Even if I have my own fast regeneration, healing spells are always useful.
Next up is Time. "Slow, Slowga, Haste, Hastaga, Stop, Stopga." Slow drops the movement speed of an enemy, haste speeds up the movement speed of yourself or an ally and stop freezes the opponent in place. Simple enough. Anything with Ga at the end means it targets multiple opponents or ally.
Another green glowing orb is pushed into my arm.
Each time I put an orb into my body, I can feel the mana inside myself being dragged toward an orb in my arm. The mana inside of my body is usually used to make me stronger, increase my speed and body strength from what I know from Cloud.
Picking up the buster sword it felt a bit heavier but not much.
"One more should be fine." I grab the thunder materia and put it into my arm. "Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga, Thundaja." Firing lightning bolts that increase in area and Intensity the higher the spell.
"I'll test them out in the dungeon later." I put the rest up and relax for the night and get the hang of feeling the materia in my arm, it's a tad weird but nothing that would hinder me. Also need to test out the dragoon armor at some point.
The next morning I set out towards the guild however I'm intercepted halfway. "Good morning Syr, hard at work already?" I ask the gray haired girl.
"Good morning! Yes, but aren't you the same?" She asks with a polite smile.
"Ah, I'm headed to the guild to speak with my dungeon guide. Planning to learn about a couple more floors today." I tell her. "Then I'll go hunt around the first floor for some goblins for some cash."
"Oh! What level are you? I thought you didn't have a familia." Syr asks a bit confused.
"I don't have a familia and I have no level yet. But that doesn't mean I can't hunt on the first floor for some goblins." I shrug.
"But you aren't getting any stronger that way, you need a crest to gain excellia." She says.
"That's not true, you can also train technique, get used to various weapons, analyze your opponents, there are many ways to get strong. It's just a matter of perspective." I tell the girl. "Knowledge is power after all, well power is also power, but still you get what I mean. Besides I've been hunting the first floor for the past 2 days and haven't had a scratch yet, most annoying thing is getting those stupid magic cores and finding goblins." I admit, finding the little bastards is the most annoying part.
"I see, well make sure you are careful." She says.
"Thanks I'll do my best. Anyway I've got to get going so have a nice day at work." I tell the woman with a friendly smile.
"Thanks, be safe!" She says before parting ways, Ryan once more missing the strange look from the girl.
Arriving at the guild I meet with Rose and we go over the monster on the second floor and the path to it.
"The second floor contains more creatures such as kobolds, they are faster than goblins and have a sharper sense of hearing and smell. Once more they are humanoid so the usual methods would kill them, they have sharp teeth and claws so watch out for that and usually they have some kind of weapon, like stone spears or clubs. They can be accompanied by goblins and can show up in groups of 3 to 5 usually as they travel in packs." Rose starts to explain and I look over the route of the first dungeon floor to the second.
"Is that it? Just the addition of kobolds?" I ask looking at the picture of the dog like humanoid creature.
"Yes, they don't drop anything valuable besides the magic core which is found in the center of the chest. They would also be a bit tougher to cut through due to their fur on their body." Rose says making sure I'm paying attention.
