The incident that night passed as if nothing happened. Well, for others that was exactly it. The isolation barrier that Lady Wilding set up did wonders in keeping the other residents of the ship in the dark. I did have an inkling that Captain Otto and Riley were informed though.
That aside, I'm pretty sure they weren't able to figure out that I was involved that night. After all, I was so cute and harmless looking that it almost felt terrible to suspect me. And my age made it so that it was unbelievable for me to be beyond a Mage or Great Mage level. So, unless I out rightly made a move everyone would be clueless.
As for the intruders, I bet they're already fish excrements by now. RIP lads. Make better choices in your next life.
The days that followed were uneventful. There were no more intruders that came. I wasn't surprised at that however. Captain Otto said that we were halfway across the gulf. I figured the pursuers of the couple wouldn't risk catching up unless they were really desperate and just asking to die. Other than huge galleon ships or military ones, it would be suicidal for other types to try and cross the Atalenta Gulf for the waters become perilous at this point.
The pursuers were most probably using small magic propelled boats that maximized on speed that's why they were able to sneak up on the La Miel. I do remember seeing a dark mass bobbing up and down near the hull that night. How the couple disposed of it, I wouldn't know. Anyway, it was established then that there would be no more mishaps of that kind. Since they'd end up as toys for the waves and eventually fish food if they try another attempt at it.
Therefore, my life reverted to the dreariness that has become an old friend. Thankfully, I just had to wait for only a week and a few days tops before we reached Spice Islands.
Nevertheless, I had underestimated the description that Captain Otto stated. When he said perilous waters, I didn't know he meant nonstop rains, thunderstorms, humongous waves crashing down on the ship like it had some sort of enmity against it.
The ship tossed beneath the waters so bad that I couldn't eat, sleep, or even just lay down for even five minutes without getting almost thrown from side to side. Honestly, I wasn't one to be seasick. But this circumstance is making me doubt my stomach.
Three days of this experience was enough to drive one mad. One is me. I was mad. And not the crazy kind of mad but the angry kind of mad. I've had enough of this turbulent waters so much that I even missed how boring it previously was.
Staying in my room or anywhere in the ship didn't make any difference. So I went up the navigation room to look for Captain. When I arrived there, I saw Riley and the musician couple with him.
"Hi, there." I greeted them as gracefully as I could amid the swaying of the ship. I secretly circulated a stabilizing spell on my feet so I wouldn't fall face-down as I approached them. I mean these bunch were doing the same thing, so why should I inconvenience myself? The spell was pretty basic anyway. So it wasn't that suspicious.
"Miss Toni, hello! Come and take a seat." Captain Otto returned genially and gestured to a seat next to Riley. I leisurely sat down and flitted my gaze at the group. My actions contrasted greatly at the current situation. I could see the curiosity brimming from Li Jinhan and Emily's eyes but propriety prohibited them from voicing it out.
After all Riley didn't take the initiative to introduce me while the Captain was treating me so respectfully. I can tell that they figured I'm from the upper-class though. My demeanor spoke volumes not to mention that I went so far as to wear a mask.
"What are you all up to?" I asked lightly. I saw Riley glanced outside, her expression grave.
"We're observing the current state of the weather. Usually, we should have gone past these stormy waters by now. But it seemed as if it was following us around. The ship's shield would not be able to hold out against these powerful waves the longer this goes on." She kindly explained to me, shaking her head after.
"Oh, I see. Won't you be introducing me to your acquaintances, Miss Riley?" The three looked stunned at my dismissive answer and sudden shift of topics. Riley didn't blame me though. She might have thought that even if I knew about the circumstances, I wouldn't be able to help.
It's not that I wasn't capable of helping. I was. I am a Grand Magister, after all. I won't let the ship be damaged if I could prevent it. It's only that the situation wasn't so dire that I needed to step in right away.
"Oh. Pardon me. I was too preoccupied. These are my friends, Emily and Jinhan." She introduced courteously. I nodded at the two.
"Emily, Jinhan, this is also a guest of ours. Miss Toni." She turned to them and addressed me. The couple returned with a nod of their own. Emily even smiled a little at me.
I was about to say something when lightning flashed passed us, illuminating the entire room so bright that it forced us to close our eyes. What followed was a loud bang and a foreboding crash.
The lightning had struck the main mast and the sails were burning. The shield vanished after mitigating most of the lightning's effect. If it hadn't, the entire ship would be in smithereens by now. It was that strong.
Captain Otto rushed forward along with Riley. His booming voice directing the crew to do some damage control. The couple stood up as well and looked on at the scene. I followed a little while later. My lips pressed in a line.
"The natural laws are abnormally chaotic." I whispered to myself. Maybe my voice had been a little louder than a whisper because Li Jinhan turned his head towards me.
"The natural laws?" He asked with furrowed brows. His question caught Emily's attention. I pursed my lips at his question.
"Yes. You could think of it along the lines of nature being pissed off." I answered flippantly as I picked on my nails. Emily seemed to have understood my point because she looked even grimmer than previous.
"Ah man. I didn't wanna do this. Seriously? Why strike down the ship? Is it really that f*cking bothersome for you, huh?" Waves crashed onto the deck which put out the fire. That helped a little. But there was still constant lightning and thunder present along with the heavy rainfall which drenched all of those on deck. Including me.
I sighed. Exasperated was an understatement. Guess I really had no choice.
They say you can't fight fire with fire. Chaos needs to be untangled for there to be order. I willed my bracelet to turn into a violin. It was still my choice of weapon at the moment. I liked interesting things after all.
"Shall we have a little concerto?"
