I balanced the chocolate cake properly on my hands before knocking on Alex's door.

Not less than a minute later, a now seven year old Alex opened the door.

Her eyes were slightly red which had me confused.

"Happy birthday Vixen "

I wished her squatting down with the cake.

"Thanks "

She muttered and I used my other hand to stroke her hair.

" Your eyes are red, were you crying?"

She shook her head; no and replied.

" I was awake all-through the night"

She smiled then shockingly hugged me, clinging tightly to me.

" My Vixen is now seven"

I teased and she hugged me even tightly.

" Clingy now, aren't we?"

I joked before picking her up with my free hand.

I haven't carried Alex like this in years and I was fully content with the opportunity to do so.

Alex buried her face in my neck as I placed the cake on the kitchen counter.
