"Okay children, off to bed. Nymphadora, take Harry to bed. As for you Charlus, I still have some questions about Beauxbatons."
Andromeda asked Charlus to stay back and the others to leave. Charlus was confused.
"But Andromeda, I already told you -"
"Now, Charlus," Andromeda started as soon as the children left. "This isn't about Beauxbatons. It's about your body."
"My body? What's wrong with my body?"
Charlus was perplexed. He didn't feel anything was wrong with him. Sirius, who was on the side with Remus interjected.
"She means, do you feel anything new in your body since a few months back."
Charlus thought for a while. Then he remembered what they were talking about.
"Oh! You mean after I got the cool tattoo. I felt nice. I can run lot faster than before. I am very strong now."
Charlus described his changes very childishly. Andromeda wasn't surprised by the physical benefits of being a part-magical creature. She was more concerned about whether Charlus was having any side-effects like loss of sleep or extreme pain. She would test his body manually but having the opinion of the patient had proved to be very helpful before, as it provided her with a specific cause to search for.
"Is there anything wrong? Did you feel any pain? Loss of sleep?"
Charlus shook his head.
"No. Everything is fine. This bracelet is very irritating though. Can you take it off. I tried very hard."
CHarlus showed Andromeda the bracelet on his right hand. Andromeda looked at it, but before she could say anything Sirius answered.
"I'm sorry Charlus. That bracelet was one of your father's dear objects. He would never take it off. I thought you would like it. If you want, I can take it off immediately."
Sirius played the emotional card on Charlus. What he said was a complete lie, but he had lied to help Charlus. Since Charlus was very young, he would not understand even if Sirius tried to explain. Charlus fell for the trick and said, "Oh. It doesn't bother me much."
Andromeda then said, "Charlus. Could you come with me?"
She took Charlus to a room in the Manor while the other two followed. The room was bare, and there was a single bed in the middle. It was surrounded by a simple rune drawn with what appeared to be chalk. She asked Charlus to lay on the bed and he obliged.
Charlus fell asleep immediately after he lay on the bed. Andromeda stepped forward and took out her wand. She waved it over Charlus body several times, and she then furrowed her eyebrows.
She looked at Sirius and said, "There's nothing wrong with him. Other than his different blood, every other structure is the same as a human. It's just slightly strengthened. I would have expected something different. Maybe I'll get different results if I check his back."
She turned Chalrus around and then repeated what she had done previously. Her expression betrayed her astonishment. Sirius looked at her and couldn't contain his curiosity.
"What happened?"
"The boy said he had a tattoo. It's a magical tattoo. It's the key to his human and Phoenix blood. All the energy associated with fire and life has accumulated there. Something is stopping the energy from bursting out, but I can't seem to understand what. Maybe I should call Ted and have him take a look."
Sirius stopped her.
"It's the bracelet. I don't understand why, but I know from a reliable source that it's the bracelet that's shielding his power."
Andromeda was not satisfied with the answer, but she had no say, as Charlus was Sirius' ward.
"Okay, I'm going to let you take Charlus to his room. The Phoenix blood isn't showing any side-effects as of now. I will check again in the summer. Do me a favour and don't tell the boy until he's of proper age. If others know... you know how the society is. They fear what they don't understand. And if they fear him, they will try to purge him."
Andromeda warned Sirius before leaving the room.
"I will stay the night and will leave tomorrow." She said as she was walking out.
Remus hadn't said a single word the whole time and was thinking how he had to hide his status as a werewolf at Hogwarts. He hoped in his heart that Charlus would have as good friends as he did during his time at Hogwarts. He then took out his wand and carried Charlus to his room while Sirius was deep in thought.
At that time, a bird flew into the room and perched on Chalrus' stomach. Charlus gave out a soft giggle, before going back to sleep. Sirius and Remus looked at the bird. It was a Little Owl. It was the bird that had hatched out of the egg Charlus had been given by Remus on his birthday. Remus had assumed that it was magical since it had not hatched for a long time, but they dismissed the thought when they saw the Little Owl. However, this Little Owl was slightly different from others. It had few blue feathers on its crown, which weren't prominent. The two had dismissed it as a birth defect, and they didn't think too much then.
The bird walked on Charlus' stomach and went towards his right hand. It then started pecking at Charlus' bracelet. It kept pecking for a minute, while Sirius and Remus simply watched. They didn't do anything because they didn't want to wake Charlus up. The bird felt it had pecked enough and flew off. Remus and Sirius looked at each other and thought one word - WEIRD.
