Capítulo 6: Atlanta Camp

Walking and following the Dixon siblings had something akin to having an angel on one side and a devil on the other. Merle seemed to take any chance he could get to scoff at Axel so he himself started to keep quiet.

'An asshole stays an asshole through and through it seems.' Of course, Axel was not really thrilled to have that elder brother as his company.

Daryl on the other side was a much calmer fella that gained a lot more sympathy points in Axel's book.

Through the hunting skills he possessed, he also already carried 5 large hares from the nearby forest and contributed a lot to the survivors.

It also made him a very interesting man and Axel even tried to learn a few things here and there that he picked up observing him. Or at least he tried to remember them and figure out what purpose scraping a few trees with a knife did.

Soon they reached a mountainous area that had a rather large cliff nearby.

"What is this?", he asked while looking down to the lower levels.

"That was once a quarry where minerals or something like that was mined.", answered Daryl.

Thinking about it Axel was actually surprised. He didn't remember the camp being near such a place and from his tower, he was also not able to see past the hill to see these details.

"Isn't that dangerous? There is only one escape route from this place if those shamblers appear in a horde."

Now Daryl looked back at him "But it also gives us protection from exactly all those directions. And our place is elevated and cleared from most trees close by to give a better vantage point. For a kid, you are pretty careful, huh?"

"Told ya, this guy has those killer eyes." chuckled Merle "Hey, how many of those walkers did you kill already?"

"Walkers? Is that what you call the shamblers? Well, probably a few dozen or so? But, they are not humans anymore, so it's alright.", answered Axel back

"Very good attitude. I may actually like you, brat."

Daryl only sighed. "Anyway, don't worry so much. We all make our patrol runs to clear any threats around our camp. So a few miles out there should be no walkers."

"Alright, I will trust you on that...Anyway, who is your leader? Your group should have one, right?"

"Some officer hot-shit called Shane likes to think he is the leader but most of us have our own say in things. Why? Feeling scared that I could be the leader?" said Merle back.

'Shane, huh. So Rick is still in the hospital in King County. That being said there are guns to be had.'

"I see. I only ask because I won't be staying forever. I plan on going to King County next."

"What do you want to do there? That is quite a place you target there."

"Mostly for loot of course but the real reason? I just want to be as far from Atlanta as possible. Those military guys kill indiscriminately. And the whole city is full of walkers. I am actually amazed I somehow managed to get out of there."

"All I hear is you being a good supply runner. Why don't you stay here. We could use a hand in getting supplies.", asked Daryl.

"You are asking that a 10-year-old kid?", smirked Axel.

"You are only 10 years old? Damn, what are you kids eating? We have a 12-year-old kid in the camp but he is a little bit shorter than you.", chuckled Daryl lightly.

"Well, technically I am about to hit 11 years. The names Axel Pierce by the way."

"Daryl Dixon. And that is my brother Merle.", nodded Daryl to his introduction that was still missing.

"Nice to meet you.", said Axel back.

After that little conversation, the three of them kinda stayed quiet until they reached the camp.

The people that noticed them immediately became interested because a kid was with them.

"What is this?", asked a man with black curly hair the siblings.

"Why don't you ask yourself? I am not the one who brought the brat." Merle just raised his arms and ignored the guy walking just past him.

The facial expression of him being ignored sure enough showed that he was not happy about that at all. So he looked over at Daryl.

"The kid seemed to be lost the woods. Thought it was alright to take him in.", explained Daryl when he was looked at.

The man shifted his gaze towards Axel. "You alone kid? Where are your parents?"

'Typical cop...'

"They are..." Axel looked away for a short moment. "Probably dead. And yes, I prefer going solo. It is easier to survive like that."

"Where did you come from? Did you come from Atlanta?"

"Yep, that is the hellhole I escaped. Why?"

"Just curious. Can you tell me how the situation is right now in the city?"

"Um...Let's say it is very bad. Too many walkers collecting themselves into hordes. The gunfire from what I think was the military safe zone also stopped around 2 days ago..." Axel tried to explain the situation as well as possible. He did need to keep in mind that he was still a freaking minor.

"Shit..." The man that was Shane just scratched the back of his head and walked away. "Make yourself at home kid. But be prepared to do chores. Everyone here does something to keep their stay."

"Roger, roger.", answered Axel with a deadpanned expression and that got Shane looking back with a raised brow only to see Axel smiling at him with a carefree attitude.
