Destrian was taken by surprise. Based on Regina's tone when he confronted her that night, he had assumed she didn't tell Marlena about it.
He studied her eyes for any sign that she knew, only for her to look away.
"Why?" he asked, feigning ignorance.
'Mother is convinced I'd die,' she thought, but couldn't bring herself to say it out loud.
She didn't know when it happened but her feelings for Destrian grew so deep that she couldn't bring herself to stay away from him even if the opposite could cost her life.
She selfishly wanted to be able to cherish these moments with him, even if they would amount to nothing.
"The mother queen wants me to assume the position of princess," She said instead. It was a true reason too, but not as tragic as the one she knew would make him stay away forever.
He rubbed his chin, not having expected to hear this.
"Why would she want that?"
