I look down at the admission letters staring me right in the face and I'm scared to open them. I'm also kind of nervous.

There can only be three possible replies.

One, I've been accepted.

Two, I've been placed on a waiting list.

And three, I've simply not been accepted. That's the one reply I dread the most.
