After Victon left, Theodore started a long lecture about the dangers of meeting strangers to little Megan. He nagged from the afternoon to until it was time for bed. Theodore talked so much that little Meg can repeat his words now.
"Good night baby, tomorrow you're coming with mama to the market. We're running low on sugars and flour" Mama Vinnesia said as she tucked Megan into bed and closed the windows.
"Okay mama" said Megan.
**********
In the morning everyone went about on their business. Mama Vinnesia and Megan got ready to go to the market. They wore matching outfits, two pastel purple dresses and hats to avoid the hot sunlight of summer. They brought along two shawls and a big basket to carry their purchases.
The Central Market was filled with people walking around. Although it was only around noon, the place was buzzing with business.
Megan loves to go to the market, there's so many things she haven't seen yet so she was curious. This market was the main market of the Starlight Kingdom. Merchants from neighboring countries come here to sell their merchandise. The neighboring countries are the Venus Kingdom and Hong Jin Kingdom. Out of the three kingdoms, Starlight was the largest kingdom. Merchants from both Venus and Hong Jin would come over often to hopefully increase their profits. From antique vases to glittering jewelries to different food cuisines, this place had it all!
Mama Vinnesia searched around for people that sells flour and sugars. Holding Megan's hand and the big basket in the other, she approached a foreign merchant. This merchant had a big belly that jiggle when he sway his body to look for incoming customers.
"Welcome! Is there anything specific you're looking for miss?" He said with a business smile.
"Yes, I'm wondering if you have sugar and flour"
Mama Vinnesia answered.
"Of course!" The merchant said with enthusiasm. "These here sugars are the best in the Venus kingdom. These sugars were made out of sugar canes that was hidden deep in the North Forrest. It was found in a cave and when processed into sugars, it was twice as sweet than normal sugars!" The merchant said as he gave Mama Vinnesia a glass jar of containing sugar.
"What's the North Forrest?" Little Megan asked.
"The North Forrest is the most dangerous place in the Venus kingdom" the merchant said with a shiver. "It's near the border of the Starlight kingdom and Venus kingdom, but more into Venus. It's a vast and dense Forrest crawling with monsters of all sizes. I even heard a rumor there was a certain cave in the Forrest and there lived a legendary dragon. Who knows if this creature is in the Forrest or at a different Forrest, but I guess it's just legends and tales. Only those who are strong and brave can enter that restricted area."
Megan's little eyes shone as the merchant described the Forrest. She had never heard of a dragon and was curious to know what it was. Little Meg though about asking mama about it later.
After paying for the sugars, the mother and daughter pair went to get flour as the merchant didn't sell flour. While they were walking Megan's little eye spotted a cart full of books. She thought about the merchant's story and thought maybe those books have the answer to her questions.
Little Meg approached the merchant's cart filled with stacks of books. She saw an old book with a picture of a creature of some sort on the cover. The book was light with few pages and looked like it can ripped at any moment. She opened the book to the first page looking at the picture to see what it seems like a creature with wings. It's mouth was open and came out fire, while there were people kneeling with their hands clapped together. 'Are they praying?' Little Meg thought. It looked like they were praying like her when she goes to church. Megan turned the page and saw another picture. There was the creature again, but it was sleeping in what it looks like a cave. On the next page, there was a girl reaching for a shining star. Then the next page shows the girl befriending the large winged creature.
Megan thought this was a nice book and wanted to look at the rest at home. She turned around to ask her mama to buy this for her, but mama wasn't there.
