Chapter 22
Title: Nen Affinities…
….
As Karla runs Nen through the glass, the leaf starts moving slightly. Meaning that she is a manipulator. She looks at me with a smile on her face. "Yay! I am a manipulator… that is cool right Sub?"
I smile at her when she says that and nod my head slightly. I hope she reaches her full potential with this Category, I can't actually think of a lot of Manipulation related abilities except Controlling people and such. But I trust in Karla to create her own ability that is perfectly suited to herself. I will explain to her how the conditions and limitations work and which ones are the strongest for a Manipulator.
"That is good Karla, I will explain to you later how this ability would be best used for and how to apply conditions. I will explain that to all of you. Anyway Azula, you are next." I call out to the last member of our group, and she comes forward and tries to do her test as she runs Nen through the glass…
Crack!
A small crack appears on the glass and Azula looks at me strangely. "What does this mean?"
I have an uncomfortable smile on my face as I decide to answer this. "Well… you are a Specialist Azula."
She has her calm mask on her face, as a trained assassin, she will never express what she is really thinking.
"Oh! I see, so I will have a Special ability and I won't really need to train it? I might only need to put conditions on it to make it more suitable for myself right?" Asks Azula as she recites my explanation of Specialist Affinity.
I nod at her in confirmation. "Yes… that is good. But usually, Specialists have to discover the ability that they have by themselves about their own ability. But sometimes they get instinctual knowledge about it. One could get their Specialist ability by just wishing for it and their Nen does the rest. Honestly, it is very vague and it will definitely be the hardest but at the same time easiest affinity to train. Training Hatsu for you would be useless so while Karla trains her Hatsu to try and make the leaf rotate more and move in specific directions, you will be training more Advanced Nen techniques."
I keep explaining this to her and Azula just nods. Now that she is a Specialist I can't let her leave the group. Honestly, if she was in any other category she would be free to leave, but now… there is no way she will leave. I will kill her immediately before she even thinks of doing something like that.
I can only hope now that she develops an ability beneficial to the rest of us too. It seems like I must coerce her feelings and make her have a sense of belonging in the group. But at the same time, I must be careful… Specialists are known to be very charismatic. So I better be careful so my position as leader isn't usurped. In the end, though it doesn't really matter, I am confident in the group's connection between its members. I mean none of us really have a place to go, so we are stuck with each other.
So after that, I give the glass of water to Karla so she can train her Manipulation. Ogre still has to learn the other basic techniques if he wants to try something like this.
I pull Azula to the side as they train and we both sit down on the ground. She has an unusually calm look as she gazes at my face. I can now see that Azula is quite a good looking woman when she doesn't show her shark-like teeth. But anyway, I must start building some loyalty with her. I know that I have Karla's loyalty because she has always thought of me as someone that cared for her even back in the days when she wasn't that talented in assassination techniques. So she is very unlikely to ever betray me unless she is under the control of an enemy. But as a Manipulator, she will definitely have an advantage against other Manipulators as they will have difficulty manipulating someone like her if she decides to manipulate herself… in a way. After all, for Manipulators, it is first come first serve.
Still, I just look at Azula's eyes who still have that crazy tilt on them but ever since she has started learning about Nen. Still, as we gaze at each other I am the first one to break the calmness by asking her. "So, what things do you like?"
As I ask her that, she looks at me with a strange look in her eyes. I can clearly see her confusion at why I am asking such things about her.
"Specialist abilities are usually dependent on the user's preferences or likes. It isn't generated out of nowhere and becomes an ability. The Ability will usually have something in connection to the user." I explain to her, but at the same time, I only gave half-truths. I actually wanna know more about her so I can also make her connect more with the group. I really should give a name to the group now. Well, it doesn't matter I will give one later.
Azula nods at my explanation and in the end, she decides to say. "Well… I like shops… I guess? I also like different things."
I just look at her and mention for her to continue but she just shrugs. "I don't have a lot of things that I like okay. I mean I like working with poisons and discovering new types of them, but I wouldn't like a Nen ability for it."
Hmmm… I frown a little as I enter deep into my thoughts. I am also maintaining Ken which is a combination between Ren where I output my Aura explosively to raise my physical stats but at the same time I use Ten to contain it. This is the perfect defense against different physical attacks, especially since my Hatsu Ability allows me to have such high defenses.
I am doing this whole process while still talking to Azula, no need to waste time and not train while at the same time training. Ken spreads my Nen all around my body at 100%, once I can hold this for around thirty minutes I can start learning Ryu which will allow me to spread my Nen at different percentages over my body, like 70% on my fist and 30% to protect my body and such.
I and Azula keep talking and she even starts asking me questions about myself and what I believe. I responded to the questions semi-truthfully. I understand that as we will hopefully spend most of our time together, we will learn to trust each other. Trust is gonna be needed between our group and I also need people to watch my back.
Azula is currently with me only because she wants to learn Nen. So hopefully she will join the group later on and won't have to die.

So like this one day passes and I learn a lot of things about Azula but in the end, I can't guess what her future Hatsu Ability will be. Guess it is true that it isn't easy to figure out a Specialist's ability.

As we are sleeping I am the first to keep watch on the outside and I am also using En to sense the movement of anything within a fifteen-meter radius in a circular dome.
I sense movement enters the range, the person is holding a sword. I immediately frown at this. Is this an assassin from the mafia?

AUTHOR NOTE:
We can see that the MC doesn't really trust Azula, he knows that she only joined him so she could learn Nen. Now he either can convince her to stay in the group or… he will have to try and kill her. Anyway, we will see how that development goes.
