Capítulo 30: The King of the North

The cold of the North had no presence within the lands owned by Alexios. Sometimes it would rain and sometimes he would tone down the usage of fire crystals to let it snow a little but never was it so cold that it was uncomfortable. The entire region was bountiful and prosperous under his rule. It was arguably the safest place to live which only made more people move there. Now it was in a flux of activity as soldiers were gathered and brought to mobilize leaving only ten percent of the troops to guard the lands, roughly a little under 10,000 soldiers.

Ravens were sent and contracts with mercenaries were made. Back door handshakes and hushed whispers holding promises and greed. Boisterous arrogant lords stating their intentions idiotically. Most of such happenings were watched and recorded into reports for Alexios for future planning on these coming days. As he looked at those reports, he smiled before looking out the window of the carriage at the sight of Winterfell.

Opening the large hall doors, the once rambunctious behavior and words of the lords fell silent as all looked at the newcomer. Alexios donned in his valyrian steel armor, only armed with his daggers and a long saber all of which were made by Toros using valyrian steel; walked with a serious and threatening aura towards the table. When coming to the table, Alexios continued till he stood next to Robb, who in turn faced him unsure what he was doing. Alexios smiled sheepishly, sighed and kneeled with his head down. "All hail king Robb Stark, the true king of the North! I, Alexios Dragen, lord of Snake mount and the lands around swear my fealty to king Stark!"

Everyone was shocked, what turned out to be a hopeful moment of seeing an ally turned into having their liege lord proclaimed as a king by the only lord that could challenge him. Each lord, one by one began kneeling and swearing their fealty to Robb. Robb looking from one lord to the next rested his eyes lastly on Alexios and smiled with unsure thoughts. "Rise all of you, all of you have such high expectations for me, I will try to live up and surpass those expectations. For now, Lord Dragen, what are your resources that you are providing in support to this war?"

Alexios stood tall and proud as everyone looked up to see his eyes. "I have brought 9/10's of my land forces my king, half of that is with me while half will travel the sea with Garold, Lucius, and Toros in charge. In total my force with me at this moment is about 45,000 while they have the same amount. Most of my naval fleet is being used with their own crews and soldiers to protect the North and escort my land forces." After hearing him, everyone lowered their heads slightly from the shame they felt only bringing a couple thousand at most.

All together with all the lords, it would add up to a terrifying amount but that amount was even less to what Alexios was providing. If anyone were to think about it, in terms of power alone, he would be king if he so wished it and a few even wished he would take up that task. Robb looked at Alexios in awe and distress wondering with his many thoughts. Robb looked at all the lords that were still in shame and some in reverence and stood upright after sighing. "Will everyone please excuse us for five minutes, I wish to speak with Lord Dragen alone."

The hall room was vacant within a minute all but two individuals who stood facing each other. "Alexios, I… I think you already know what I wish to ask but I can't seem to say the words before it is said by you yourself." Alexios looked at Robb, a boy still growing and still developing, his mind had already decided on what would happen if given a few different scenarios before coming here. "Robb, if what you wish to ask is if I would rather want to be king, I will be blunt and honest with you. Do I have your word you won't let this conversation stress, no matter how it goes, between the pact we made together?"

Two days before in Snake Mount 298 AC:

Eleven people sat around a large circular table, a scroll would be placed on the table by one and for the others to read it, the table would rotate so each person could get to it. Eventually a large man stood up and when everyone looked up at Toros he looked at Alexios. "My lord, I believe you can already surmise but all of us have talked about it before you came and everyone believes that you should declare yourself king of the North. No one is more qualified than you as shown by the lands already under your control. With the winds of change happening, we all think you can calm this storm and bring prosperity and peace for Westeros...my king."

One by one each person stood up, even Reanna and all at one, they kneeled and vowed to follow Alexios on this road no matter where it led. While many would say that Alexios held a stoic air about him with cold analytical eyes, some discerning eyes would see a small twitch upwards on his lips. "These times ahead of us will be trying and full of surprises, I am sure of it. We will not only let these times test us but we will overcome it with our strength and our knowledge. Stand, all of you and let us continue, I will not hear of this anymore till I speak with Robb, I wish not for another enemy in these trying times."

Present time, Winterfell 298 AC:

Robb swallowed his saliva and steadied his mind of all the thoughts, he nodded to alexios to continue. " Robb, while I believe you to be a man of honor and one that I have been lucky to know, in these times that present themselves to us now. I do not believe you are fit to be a king, a general yes, a powerful lord that is trustworthy, yes, but no king. My council has already told me to become king but I do not have the love of the lords, or at least not all of them, as such, I have no voice to speak out what I believe. Though if we were discussing what each of us can offer to the realm, then it is obvious, I have wealth, military power, reforms bring about positive change, and even advancements in all of the fields that surpass anyone else. So all I can ask is, are you willing to instead become a king, become my general, shield and my lord that I may call upon when needed?"

Robb looked at Alexios as his mind processed all the words spoken shocked at his words. While true, he never thought the man before him would so blatantly ask for him to become his lord and support him in being king of the North. He was now paramount of the North while Alexios was just a lord, a powerful one at that but still a lord. He regained his breath and thought about it for a couple minutes while Alexios just stood there waiting. As all the lords entered and took their seats or stood once again, all eyes were on Robb Stark and Alexios Dragen with one thought in mind, 'what did the two discuss.'

"Everyone, Lords, friends, I would like to put it to a vote on who should be king, anyone is allowed to be nominated but it has to be by someone else. I nominate Alexios of house Dragen to be king." His words brought an uproar to the crowd and some were cursing and others were fervently discussing with each other on the matter. Eventually Robb Stark, Alexios Dragen, Jon Umber, and even Roose Bolton were chosen as the possible candidates. What followed was a round of discussion about what each person and house had to offer to being a king of the North.

After a full hour passed, Roose Bolton was scowling and Jon Umber was smiling, they both had been deemed as not enough for kingly material. After that was finished, one by one most of the lords present began to think of who should be king. Eventually it was Jon Umber who stepped up first to make his vote. "I say, I can stand beside Alexios of house Dragen the giant, a true Northborn and tested warrior as well as a smart lord given his lands prosperity." An ember to start the flames, one by one, lords began voicing their votes.

Slightly over two thirds of the lords present voted for Alexios while the remaining voted for Robb.

Robb seeing how he lost by so many could only chuckle which led to a laugh. Alexios walked up to him seeing his reaction and smiled before pulling him into a warriors embrace and in a hushed tone. "Your subtle looks at lords was seen, and appreciated but don't downplay your own talent brother." He then turned to face the lords and took a breath with cold eyes. He scanned the crowd of lords and sighed before shaking his head thinking of all the work still ahead of him.

"Today marks change for the North, just as I have done in my land, I will begin doing in all of our lands now. Ports, academies, military posts, roads, and so much more will be started in our lands. we will show everyone the true might of the north as we strike vengeance for our brother, Robb Stark and his family. When you strike down one Northerner, you strike down us all. Nothing will stop us from what we wish to accomplish now or ever. So I ask you now, will you all help me carry out this task, not as an ally, or fellow Northerner, but as your new king…"
