After we had finally entered the Capital City of Balbadd After Budel's Caravan had paid the entrance fee of the city, I then quickly saw a bustling city with many people all around the road, with many smiles on their faces, as I saw many of them reading books as they walked by, the commoners chatting with each other in a restaurant like establishments, etc.
As We traveled through the city road, I saw certain tall buildings unlike I have ever seen before. As I observed the city with great interest, some slave merchants that still travel through the city and base on the city seemed to be much more humane to the slaves than other slave merchants that I have seen before.
When I causally asked Budel why the treatment of slaves in Balbadd Central was so different from other countries, he then just told me that it was due to the previous massacre of certain corrupt and evil merchants who disregarded the third prince's decree, which had stated that the slave trade, will be much more observed and limited as before, as it seems that from then on, the prince had stated that slave trade, while still legal, is limited as for the treatment, environment and the source of slaves for the slave merchant.
The third prince seemed to have ordered in the decree that the treatment of the slaves should be more humane than what it was used to be, requiring the slave merchants to give the slaves, at least 2 meals a day, a clean and not infested area to stay at, and especially no injuries to be caused to the slaves. Simultaneously, in storage, unless they were criminal slaves, which had stayed the same as before except for the disallowance of murder on them unless the guards or slave merchants get attacked by them, which can be counted as self-defense.
And according to Budel, as expected, many of the slave merchants were not happy as they didn't want to increase their budgets for maintaining the slaves, as they thought it would reduce their profits significantly and just for the fact, as though their year as slave merchants, they saw the slaves as nothing more than items for profits, without any human rights. Hence, they heavily disagreed with the third prince's order and even let out complaints like, The third prince was only a child who pretends to know about adult situations and other insults towards the third prince.
However, in one day, those merchants who let out their displeasure had disappeared, never to be heard of again, and although no one knew what exactly happened to them, most of the merchants thought that the prince caused the matter, so due to the fear of the slave merchants to be disposed of like the ones who let out their displeasure towards the third prince, they then did as a rule said and improved the living conditions of the slaves, although not all of them changed. Some of them were still doing illegal poaching of innocent people in slavery, which still hadn't been solved even with that rule.
However eventual after a few weeks of this establishment, the slave merchants weren't as angry as before as even though their expenses had exceptionally increased in price, they also observed that with the increased conditions of the slave, the higher quality the slaves became, which made the slaves more profitable in the long run, so in turn after time this rule was declared, most slave merchants from other groups did the same thing although not every merchant.
So anyway, with just this rule the lives of slaves became much more humane than before, which according to some rumors made the slaves think that being slaves wasn't as bad as before, and also had developed a deep respect for Balbadd as a country since they knew that no other country was its kind to slaves, in treatment.
When I heard this info from Budel I just nodded to him, as I felt even more respect for the royal family of Balbadd, for caring for the commoners and even slaves, compared to other countries who mainly just prioritize the nobles, with various luxuries and such.
After talking to each other for a while as the caravan had traveled through the city, along with taking a look at the city, The caravan has finally arrived in the city square, where it seemed that Budel will finally let me go, as it seems that the headquarters of Golden Mortana only allowed members in which I am not, so after he thanked for the help earlier once again, Budel had given me a few numbers of Dinars, giving me just enough for a few meals and money for staying at the inns, I then thanked him for helping me get to the city as well as letting me get one of the books I had read earlier from the Caravan.
And after a few words, I finally started to explore the city, to find a way to buy myself a new boat to continue my journey since the boat that Baal had protected towards the shore a few hours earlier, had been broken when I woke up since, it had many holes on it that made it unusable as a boat anymore, along with the giant cut at the end of it.
And even though I had been a sailor/ fish kid, in my old village before, I am not exactly the handy kind of guy, so I didn't know how to fix my boat, so in turn, I needed to find a way to get more money, for me to buy a new boat to continue my adventures.
So as I traveled through the city looking around like a tourist I then accidentally let myself out of control when the night had appeared, while I was walking through the city at night, I seemed to have accidentally entered the red light district. And despite my avoidance, eventually, I fell into the Red light district's scary clutches.
And when I woke up in the morning the next day, I found myself lying near a building's wall without any of my Dinars left on me, leaving myself with only my magic tools and metal vessel, which is linked to me magically thanks to Baal telling me that the metal vessel had a special function to not be taken away from the user without permission, and the magic tools I wore which had a security spell on it which probably helped me to not have lost it, the night before when I uh... got a bit too drunk and had accidentally used all my Dinars that night with the girls of the red light District.
When I remembered the events that happened the day before I felt myself being extremely angry as I thought.
[Sinbad] "Fudge dammit, Because of those damn, girls making me so drum I had accidentally... ahem used up all my diners on them leaving me with nothing like before, but at least my stomach is filled this time, but how could I get back the dinars to let me buy myself new ship to continue my adventure, dammit if Baal was here he would have prevented me from getting here, when I needed him to save my wallet, he was asleep dammit but it would only be two days left with before he awakens, but what should I do now, I do not have any cash left in me, theirs no what I could find a job here this easily and aside from fighting and fishing I don't have any notable skills, which limits my work possibility dammit."
And as Sinbad who had thought of this as he already shrugged and fixed himself o the alleyway, which he had shamefully ended up falling asleep yesterday, And as he finished doing that the exiting Sinbad had accidently overheard a conversation between a soldier and a guy who seems to be adventurers which said.
[Guard]" Hey did you hear the competition that will be held in the arena later on in the afternoon?"
[Adventurer] " Yeah so what about it man?"
[Guard] "Didn't you hear this time's competition the total family including the third prince will attend the competition's in the arena today, and I even heard that the champion of this competition would have the right to meet the Royal Family If you err talented enough, and even if you don't get that chance I still heard that you could earn a whopping amount of 10000 dinars after winning the competition, that's enough to buy yourself a medium-sized ship, with a crew of slaves."
[Adventurer] "For real man, I didn't know that the rewards are so generous especially meeting the royal family, can I still enter the competition today?"
[Guard] " Yeah man, I think the signing up should still be opened for now so, after a few teats which I doubt that you could pass them since only top fighters can enter the competition."
And as the Guard and Adventurer's words started to fade away from Sinbad's area after they talked about the competition, Sinbad who had eavesdropped on the conversation skilled as he thought
[Sinbad] "10000 dinars huh that's, so big, with that amount I could get a new ship and even some nights... No don't Sinbad don't fall for it again, anyways a competition eh, such a convenient development eh, I will enter the competition, This will be interesting"
And as I thought of that I started running to the arena until I realized I didn't know where it was and I had to ask someone on the road to where it was.
