There is a spring to my step Friday morning when I saunter into the kitchen, wrapping my arms around my father's shoulders while he drinks his coffee by the kitchen island. Boy, am I in a good mood. We are done with prelims, and for the first time in weeks, I can breathe a little easier. I slept like a baby last night and even skipped my morning run today, having decided that I deserve the break. My dad is reading the morning news on his iPad, distractingly breaking his fast on toast and beans.
"So, what's next?" he asks, looking at me over his steaming coffee cup. I get to see my Jackass this afternoon, that is what is next. I have taken the seat opposite him, fixing myself a quick meal of Rice Crispy cereal.
Ubuphi izolo, Azania? - where were you yesterday, Azania?
Mntanam - my child
Bethuna - an expression (oh man!)
Mntase - term used for friend, derived from "mntasekhaya", meaning child from my home.
