Capítulo 310: attacking a station (1)

So, we are just going to attack the nearest train station. Honestly, I can't help but feel this term is a bit of a misleading one. These so called stations, much like the trains, have been adapted to being inside a dungeon by heavily fortifying them.

These fortresses must have cost a fortune and then some to construct but they are effective. The combined might of magic and technological firepower these stations are equipped with can kill anything that dares to approach.

Under normal circumstances, attacking a station would mean a swift end soon after we entered their range of attack. However, having taken over a train, we might be able to fool them into letting us in. And even if they realize, the train is armored and should carry us through their killing zone and right up to one of the gates.

{Exactly our thoughts. Though it still remains to be seen how much of an impact you can make.}

Regarding that, I have a bit of an idea. What if we split the wagons in the middle and use both engines to conduct two separate attacks in close succession. The first assault grabs their attention and the second one actually aims to break through a different gate and enter station.

With Blood's skill that can easily break open a wagon, she should be able to get us through a gate, no?

{I like that idea. Being Y also agrees that attacking from to sides will at the very least make them feel more pressure. Though he says that he doubts if you'll actually make it inside. Those gates are made to stop monsters and should even hold up against Blood for a while. Unless you can fly, that station is almost impossible to enter.}

Unless I can fly…

What if I could fly, or more precisely, what if the train could fly?

{There you go having delusions again. Making a train fly might be possible using Being Y's powers as a dungeon master but the cost wouldn't be worth it.}

I was not referring to Being Y's capabilities when I said the train could fly. I was thinking more along the lines of ramps and enough speed.

The adventurers want to keep the trains on the tracks at all costs because they want to keep things running. But we just want to get into the station. If the train derails in the process that will actually help us do more damage.

{You are suggesting we use a ramp to launch the train OVER the station walls and onto anything below? Your plan is insane to the point where it might work and they will certainly never see that one coming. I suppose you are counting on your earth magic to create the ramp in question?}

Not much else, is there?

My earth magic has reached level 7 so I am quite capable. Dagger use has also increased by one level though I didn't get to fight much. I really need to get into close quarter combat more. And I should use my energy dagger skill way more.

{Level 7, huh? You might be able to do it but it will still take a lot out of you. Being Y wants you to try. He very much looks forward to seeing how the adventurers will handle a train from above.}

So it's decided. Blood will lead one half of the train to attack the station from the outside. While that diverts their attention, I create a ramp to lift the other half off the tracks and let it drop onto the station. By attacking from two sides they will inevitably need to split their forces or risk one attack getting through.

{Don't be too optimistic now. Capturing a train is one thing but stations are a wholly different caliber.}

I can't die so overconfidence is only going to benefit me.

{Not if you start wasting resources on plans that have no chance of success.}

Is this such a plan?

{No but I am telling you before it happens. Once you do it, you won't listen, will you?}

Perhaps but I'm sure you or Darwin would quite literally beat some sense back into me.

{I suppose…}

Now, about those undead Being Y created. How are they controlled?

{You can command them but I'm afraid your instructing skill won't affect them much. Being Y can also give them loose command like where to attack so no need to command them unless you want something specific.}

Great.

The zombie train crew unhooks the two middle wagons and both engines can now run separately.

{Which one will you take?}

Can they still use the magic drive? And if yes, is one engine stronger than the other?

{The engines are of similar strength but as an emergency measure all reserves are diverted to the magic drive of the back engine.}

I'll be taking the back one then.

{Don't forget to lower the bump you made back down so Blood's train can keep going. You'll need to drive a bit slower since the front engine needs time to reach a turning point and circle back.}

I remove the speed bump and tell Blood the plan before getting on one of the wagons still connected to the back engine. Time to attack a station.
