Capítulo 234: Preparing to overrun the enemy (1)

"So, all this is a ploy to get the alpha planeʼs attention?"

"No. I just do as I like and mildly modify my plans to suit the convenience of my allies so long as it doesn't restrict me too much."

"And what will my role in all this be?"

"Your role will be to train an expendable secondary army for me. Most things I can spawn inside my dungeon are restricted by how many I can spawn over a certain period or by what floor they can descend to. That is inconvenient and will deplete my forces if I send them in without thought."

He makes a dramatic pause before smiling at me in a regal manner.

"Kobaloi, or skull goblins as you call them, however, can be summoned without limit and at a bearable cost. If you can train them to not be as pitifully weak as they are when I spawn them, they may prove a great asset in my plans."

Skull goblins? Apart from their overwhelming numbers, I see no quality that would make them an asset. That's how they thought even when I was with them last time.

<That is not quite accurate. These monsters are known to just charge the enemy and attempt to brutalize them until they lose interest. You caused them to not only change their base behavior and go for a swift kill before moving on but also got them to pick up weapons on mass. The ones that do so are usually rare and isolated cases.>

But does this suffice to make them qualify as an asset in a war of this level?

<What I just said is enough to make them usable as a pawn. Since you have time now you should be able to go beyond these things at which point they do become an asset that can change the tides of this war in our favor.>

"I'll need equipment for them."

"Hmmm, I can give you equipment but this is supposed to be low budget. What did you have in mind?"

"If we need to keep costs low I can make crude wooden weapons myself so long as you provide wood. In addition, I'd like some of the slingshots you commissioned from Hippo and his crew. I don't need many, just twenty will do."

"That can be arranged. I'll have the wood delivered as early as possible, the slingshots will already be there once you arrive. For now, I have spawned one thousand students for you. If I like what I'm seeing I will increase that number as I see fit."

One thousand? To begin with? I knew this guy had resources to spare, but this is ridiculous!

<Skull goblins are absurdly cheap to spawn due to their tendencies to be inefficient in battle as well as their individual weakness. You being able to curb those tendencies can basically be regarded as a cheat.>

So I have a cheat-like ability now? Damn, I wish it was something more directly usable like.

<A cheat-like ability? So infinite respawn and insane growth speed are normal to you?>

Don't all VR dungeons employees have those?

<Does that make them less of a cheat?>

I guess not.

"Now, I would send you down to the 15th floor using the Janus circle but it seems quite bothersome to let you walk all the way over there if you can just respawn there. Apologies for what I am about to do, I shall make it as painless as possible."

His words sound ominous but I have little time to process them before I just black out. He just killed me, didn't he?

<To be fair, it is a very efficient way to move you to the floor you need to be on.>

Can't you just spawn me there? Like how you spawn me into dungeons from my room?

<Usually that might be possible, though most dungeons won't like it. Here, however, it's not doable.>

Why?

<Colloseum madness is built by having all floors be separate bubbles of space floating in the void. They move constantly and therefore can't be tracked and directly teleported to. Only the gates connecting adjacent floors are tethered to one another as constantly connected spatial points. Only Vespasian and the dungeon core know the spatial coordinates of all floors and we only get those we need at that very moment. To directly spawn you on a lower floor we would need the real-time coordinates of the floor you are on and the floor you are going to. And yes, I didn't know your real-time coordinates even if you were standing there.>

How?

<Real-time coordinates refer to a complex formula that allows us to predict where the floor will be moving for a certain time. Like a verification code that only lasts for five minutes. What I can detect are your coordinates at any one moment but by the time I target them, you would have already moved.>

And what does dying change in this equation?

<To put it simply, you enter a special state upon death where we can perfectly locate and move you. You also leave the confines of the floor you are on. The main reason Vespasian disallows direct spawning is that someone could sneak into the floor you go to since it's pretty low-level and figure out the coordinates we use to spawn you to teleport himself all the way to the floor you are currently on.>

Security protocols then. Still, couldn't you have just despawned me like how I usually leave a dungeon?

<Possible yes, but it takes a bit longer and Vespasian was probably just taking some personal revenge for how you reacted to him having contact with your daughter. He seems dumb but he really isn't. He mostly just doesn't let people notice how much he understands the ongoing situation.>

The darkness of death around me fades and I appear on a large, expansive grassland that stretches as far as the Colosseum walls surrounding it all.
