Capítulo 233: She understands my jokes!
We've finally made it out! Those last few passages leading to the exit have been a horrible experience. The cave hunter went completely berserk and shot arrows as if it were a machine gun on rapid fire.
Thankfully, most of the shots missed their targets. However, with the number of arrows that had been let loose there had also been quite a number of hits. The shield-bearers look a bit like hedgehogs with all the arrows sticking out from their shield and pieces of armor.
As we tumble out of the teleporter, a team of medics immediately springs into action. All the wounded are stabilized and brought to a hospital. The cost of that isn't going to make the company very happy.
Mister Galad takes a rough inventory of our spoils while frowning. Sighing deeply, he calls over a truck from the company and we load it with all the loot before watching it drive off.
"That could have gone better."
"Could have gotten a lot worse too."
He looks up at my comment and seems to reconsider. Then he nods.
"You are right, it could have been worse. Having a pseudo medic like you on the team certainly was convenient."
"Pseudo medic? I'm not sure I like the sound of that."
"Perhaps your company will think of a better name then. Your training program certainly could use a catchy name to attract customers."
"I'm sure we will do that should we deem it necessary."
"Indeed. Now, as much as I'd like to properly see you off, someone is going to have to explain to my bosses what happened and why our quota is not even half filled. I will be sure to include your performance and hope you get that deal you're looking for."
Mister Galadʼs tone seems a bit too friendly and I assume he hopes to smooth out the waves he caused with his initial behavior. The poor man already has enough to deal with and if I make things difficult for him he will certainly suffer.
<Do you intend to make things difficult for him?>
No, the looming threat seems to have made him a lot more amiable and I would rather have him think of me in a positive way than engage in petty revenge that serves no purpose.
<What are you, a pacifist?>
With my current job? Nah, sometimes forgiving is just so much easier than carrying a grudge around until I can get whatever revenge I may think necessary or appropriate.
<Whatever, get back to your room now. You have a meeting with Emperor Vespasian on how we will proceed to take the lower floors. It seems he wants to keep most of his legions in reserve and let you do what you do best.>
And what would that be?

Fine. I take my leave from Sean and the carriers. They are sad to see me leave so soon but seem to understand that I have somewhere to be.
I grab a quick bite from a fast food vendor on the way since I can't afford to enter a Pata-induced food coma before the meeting.
It's already past noon and by the time I arrive at VR dungeons HQ it's already afternoon.
I lay down in my room and an all too familiar power whisks me away and I appear in the dungeon in my true goblin form. It's still the same marble-floored movie theater where I watched Vespasian lay waste to an entire floor of his dungeon.
"Guy, glad you could come! How have you been?"
Vespasian is lounging on a seat while eating popcorn. The large screen is currently showing numerous skeleton legionaries stationed on a large grassy plain. Most of these undead stand in a motionless formation, waiting for whatever may come at them from the gate of the next lower floor.
"I heard you have been busy planning a large assault... Your Majesty."
"Your Majesty!!! Haha. Please, just call me Vespasian. I cannot bear to have the father of a brilliant young protege address me in such a formal way."
"Your interest in my daughter amazes me."
"How could I not show interest? The girl is a genius! And she understands my jokes!"
"You met her?!!!"
Navi, there had better be an explanation for this!
"Met her? Not quite. I followed her on the AR forum and she followed me back! Then she commented on one of my posts in a way that can only mean she understood my joke!!!"
<Sigh, Vespasian tours multiple online forums concerning anything remotely related to the ancient roman empire. It seems he's found your daughter on one of them. As for that thing about understanding his joke... I can't give much of an opinion since I don't understand the stuff he posts either.>
So he isn't directly preying on my daughter. I'm relieved.
<Iʼd keep those thoughts to myself if I were you.>
Don't need to tell me that twice. Vespasian would probably have my job and my life if I said things like that out loud.
"Anyway, we are going a bit too far off-topic. Forgive me, I simply had to convey my deepest appreciation for your daughter. Returning to the subject at hand, yes, I am planning a large assault. Preferably, one that will allow me to take back full control of the dungeon. Once that goal is accomplished I can set my sight on the outside world."
"You intend to leave the dungeon?"
"Not myself of course. I merely wish to lay waste to a few cities by sending out my legions. Perhaps I can even establish a small empire in this world."
"The inhabitants of this world and the people of the alpha plane will not take kindly to such actions."
"Exactly! I am not good at furthering the great dungeon alliance's plan but if I can take everyone's attention off them for long enough our advantage will only grow. Excluding the old man Hawaii's dungeon, mine is the best at dealing with large armies."
