Capítulo 202: Sanguine venom (5)

Navi, do monster voices not hint at gender?

<I am no expert on the tone differences amongst sub-dragon but I do think you sound more feminine.>

"I'm female."

"You are what? But you are such a strong, big and masculine lesser wyrm!"

"Call me masculine one more time and I'll bury my fangs so deep in your neck you won't be able to forget about them in your next life!"

While we the lesser darkness lindworm is mourning her imaginary lesser wyrm boyfriend a tremor suddenly shakes the cavern and the sound of vicious battle can be heard not too far away.

"What was that?"

"Looks like there is another fight going on between arrogant flame and muscle head. Those two have been fighting over a small cavern with a lava spring for a while now. It's at the borders of our three territories so you can always hear it when they clash there. Although, I've never seen them cause such a strong tremor that it would reach this place."

"Arrogant flame and muscle head?"

"That's how I call them. Arrogant flame is a salamander who only uses his fire breath to fight while muscle head is a lesser lindworm who fights using brute strength and relying on his incredibly hard scales."

Neither of those should be able to cause such a tremor. Another tremor of similar strength rattles the cavern and I begin to feel uncomfortable.

"Let's go take a look. Follow me."

"Sure, boss!"

I ignore the lesser darkness lindworm's attempts to cozy up to me and slither into the tunnel that is closest to where the tremors have been coming from.

"Ahm, boss? That's not the right way. That tunnel leads somewhere else."

I resist the temptation to open the dungeon map and getting another cosmic headache. Instead, I just turn around and lotion for the lesser darkness lindworm to lead the way.

We are hurrying through the tunnels when the third tremor rumbles past us. Since we are closer this time I can tell that it isn't caused by those two lesser sub-dragons. It feels more like an explosion instead of an impact.

I speed up my pace of slithering but hold off on using my sanguine boost for now. If my concern turns out to be true then I'll need it.

We rush out of the tunnel and see a cavern that has been turned upside-down. The muscle-head lesser lindworm is lying curled up inside a pothole nearly twice the size of his body. All around him are signs of explosions leaving more potholes in the cavern ground.

The salamander us furiously releasing one fiery got breath after the other creating a field of molten rock around itself. He seems hurt and one of his legs is twisted into an unhealthy-looking angle.

And in the middle of it all, humans. A group of adventurers having come here to hunt lesser sub-dragons for fame and fortune. Seems these geniuses decided to take advantage of a territorial fight to get the drop on these two idiots.

Let's see if they are prepared to face off against more than they bargained for. Four for the price of two, it's a sale!

I open my maw and begin to exhale my sanguine venom. Unlike before when my venom had still been weak my venomous mist breath now has a hint of a blood-red shade mixed in. Bad for secrecy but I do hope the potency will make up for it.

"Guys, there's two more lesser sub-dragons that just came. The lesser darkness lindworm is one of them!"

"How's your mp, old man? Can you blow them away?"

"What do you think I am? Some kind of power generator with infinite energy? I'm already at my limit from dealing with that lindworm. No chance I'm getting out another spell of that level."

"Aaahhhhh, my eyes!"

"What are you yelling about? Your eyes!"

While they are assessing the situation and trying to come up with a plan to deal with us my venomous mist breath reaches them. The effects are indeed more potent since my venom evolved.

None of the adventures are wounded so my venom should be harmless to them for now but the old mage has just started screaming like a mad man while bleeding from his eyes. Soon blood begins to trickle from his nostrils too and his ears follow soon after.

The other adventurers try to help him by giving him a health potion but the effect only protects him for a few seconds before the bleeding resumes. And other members of the team are also beginning to feel the effects.

From my observation, it affects people based on their constitution stat. The old mage was affected first because mages have horribly low constitution stats. The adventurers with classes that give a high constitution stat seem unaffected by the venom.

The only thing that slightly confuses me is that the team's healer isn't affected. The little lady's constitution shouldn't be much better than the old mage's.

<A lot of healer classes have the poison resistance skill which also partially defends against venom.>

"Dammit, what is going on? Healer, check the old man already!"

"I just did! My diagnosis skill says he's afflicted by something called lesser sanguinification. It should be some sort of toxin but I have no idea what exactly it is?"

"Figure it out then! That's what you are here for, isn't it?"

"I'm doing what I can but I need time!"

And that's our cue to make sure she doesn't get that time. The salamander and muscle-head lindworm are in no condition to attack so I and my companion will have to do all the fighting.

Since she is more of an assassin type I'll be taking the front. I want to test out how strong my sanguine venom is when it is directly injected into the body. Will the bleeding just intensify or will there be something more happening? I can't help but be a little excited as I slither toward them.
