Capítulo 142: Why are you like this?
My musings over the possibilities of the field surgery skill are interrupted by the increasing unrest of the bloodied lake. The red color suddenly begins to recede as all the blood in the lake flows towards one point leaving the water crystal clear.
Is that normal to be happening during an evolution?
<No! But we already guessed that you would cause some unique evolutions this time around. Such phenomenons aren't uncommon when monsters with high potential evolve.>
As the blood clears away I can somewhat see what happens below the surface. Suddenly a shadow jumps out of the water and sails towards the land where I stand. It's a large piranha but as I look at it something tells me that this is still a shoal of piranhas and not a singular entity.
I try to focus on one part of the large piranha and the monster's name pops into my head. This thing before me is a construct of multiple fusion piranhas fusing to create a greater organism.
While I'm still digesting that newly obtained piece of information the large fish lands on the ground beside me and begins to struggle.
I'm just about to help it get back into the water when the fish grows arms and legs. It slowly changes its shape and becomes a carbon copy of me with the exception that it has twice my size.
They can change into different creatures?!!

Is it really out of your expectations when you guessed I'd do it?
<We knew you would do something but had no idea what it would be. Though I wonder what has become of the boss monster. After absorbing all that blood an evolution in the same direction as the others wouldn't make sense.>
After spending some time on land the goblin made up of fusion piranhas decides that it doesn't like it here and returns to the water in the form of a fish once again. The other shoals of fusion piranhas are also swimming around close to the surface in their fused forms.
<Guy, you won't believe what you just created. I had Shin hit the archives and he found records of other fusion monsters! They are so great!>
Really? How so? For even your evaluation of them to be this they must be special in some way or another.
<Well, what do you think happens if you kill them in their fused form?>
They die?
<Quite the opposite. Instead of dying, they will be separated into the individuals making up the fusion and be able to fuse anew after only a minute.>
So unless you kill the individual fusion piranhas while they are forced out of their fused state they are unkillable?
<Yes...>
Navi?
Navi's voice coming to a sudden stop makes me feel like something is off. Gravely so.
<Guy, what is that in the water there?>
I look at the lake and notice a bright red colored piranha swimming looking at me out of the water. Unexpectedly a status window appeared before me when I made eye contact.

Is that its name? Did it always have a name?

Are you talking to the piranha? Is his name news to you too?
<I'm talking to you, freak! That isn't a name but a title. It is now a titled boss monster making it capable of being respawned at level one should it die. Titled monsters are a rarity and to date we've found no way to produce one. They just suddenly get the title once they get some notoriety among adventurers.>
So it can't be a coincidence?
<That would be one hell of a coincidence considering all adventurers here died. From what we know the piranhas aren't even viewed as a real threat for this boss room. Gods, you just made so much more work for the both of us. Every dungeon will want a few titled boss monsters.>
As in now?
<No you need to first finish your task here in the great labyrinth of death. But after that, you might be a little busy. You know, field surgery, dismantling, Arthur, and all those requests coming in from the dungeons.>
Oh gods, will I ever have the time to take a break? Actually, don't answer that!
<Alright I won't answer that then. Would you like to start the VR testing right now or do you want to do a few boss rooms at the same time later?>
I think I'll do the testing now since the impressions of fighting in this room are still fresh in my mind. I can think of a few ideas to get past this boss room.
Navi directly extracts me from the dungeon and I wake up in one of the VR capsules for employees. A dive into the virtual world lets me appear at the entrance of the boss room.
Navi, can you temporarily deactivate my pain receptors?
<Technically yes. But you'll need to give me a good reason because this does count as training.>
I want to try and go through this headfirst so I'll probably get mauled by piranhas. And I'm not exactly looking forward to feeling that.
<Consider it done. But be aware that I will have your pain receptors right back where they belong.>
I don't feel my lack of pain sensitivity but I'm sure Navi did what I asked of her. Just to be sure I slap myself and feel no pain at all. I only felt the touch.
Armed with the knowledge that nothing can make me hurt I sprint into the boss room where I am immediately greeted by 50 skeletons. I ignore the bony idiots and run straight for the lake. The few skeletons that do get in my way are cut down by my daggers without slowing me down in the least.
As I reach the edge of the lake I leap with all my strength and after sailing through the air for a few seconds dive into the cold and crystal clear water.
