Capítulo 101: Skill sacrifice (1)

The weekend had been full of excitement and action. We had gone to the mall and bought furniture for our new house along with a few other luxuries. The girls had been thrilled being able to walk through a mall with the possibility of getting some things that caught their eyes.

After the shopping trip, we had furnished the house and spent some time as a family. Something that I hadn't been doing enough lately.

Now I am already back at work. I could have taken a few more days of leave but Melody suggested that we reserved those days until the girls had their vacation come along. Then we could do something as a family.

<Wow, look at you living the family life. Makes me a little jealous, you know?>

You, jealous? As if you couldn't grab any random good-looking guy of the street and get him to marry you.

<Perhaps but what are good looks in the face of love. Sometimes I wonder if I should go out and do things like Valeria does them. Maybe I'd get lucky and find my fated partner.>

Or you'd end up with a ton of emotional trauma and be burdened by commitment issues that might scare away your ideal partner whenever he comes along.

<Then how does Valeria do it?>

Don't know and don't want to know.

<Yes, sometimes ignorance is bliss.>

Now that we've sorted out those matters, what's on my schedule for today.

<A lot has happened lately so I think it would be best for you to spend the day organizing your recent progress and checking up on things. There may be a few simple dungeon defenses but we'll get to those when they happen.>

So there's nothing pressing, huh. It has been rather stressful lately. Let's check my progress, I don't think I've opened my status since the battle on the seventeenth floor in colosseum madness.

Status Guy Lv.20 Goblin instructor

Mp 10+39+0

Strength 5+39+11

Constitution 5+39+13

Speed 5+39+8

Magic ability 0+39+0

Skills:

universal humanoid language, universal monster language, dungeon map

Sword use lv. 1; enhanced stamina lv. 3; dismantling lv. 5; breathing technique lv. 3; trap making lv. 4; dagger use lv. 5; throwing lv. 4; slash lv. 1; cleaning lv. 1; instructing lv.2; camp construction lv.1; instructor's assessment lv.1; stealth lv.2; make-shift crafting lv.1; soul vision lv.1; enhanced stomach capacity lv.1; backstab lv.1

Five more levels! Fighting higher-level opponents really is the way to go when you want to level up quickly. I wonder what the level cap for goblin instructor is? For goblin, it was twenty so it should be higher now, 30 then?

And my skills...

Backstab... I should be happy to have a new skill but the name just has such a bad connotation. I guess I did a lot of backstabbing while I was trying to support the skull goblins. All the soldiers were stronger than me so fighting them head-on hadn't been an option.

Stealth has also increased by a level and dagger use finally reached level five. I feel like sword use and slash have become redundant since I never really use a sword.

<If you want we can remove the skills from your status.>

And how would you do that?

<There's a skill for nearly everything so naturally, there are skills that can change your status. Given, they are rare and most of them are very limited in their usage but in your specific case we have someone who can do that.>

So you have someone who can delete skills?

<No. Her skill is far more useful. You know how in some games you can reset your character and invest all the points you gain to get a completely different build, right?>

You have someone with a skill that can do that?!!

<Are you stupid? If such a power existed the worlds would be thrown into absolute chaos. The skill I'm referring to merely allows the sacrifice of skills in return for unused potential.>

Unused potential?

<Once you have acquired some unused potential you will find learning new skills and leveling up older ones easier until the potential is used up. However, the amount of unused potential you get for sacrificing a skill would never be enough to instantly require it.>

So the returns are bad but still... can this unused potential be used to learn any skill?

<It will automatically help you when you start meeting the requirements for getting a skill. You cannot directly control what the unused potential is used for. Whatever skill you are about to learn or level up will be supported by it.>

That sounds useful. I think I'll take you up on your offer and sacrifice some skills. Afterward, I can take my advanced training to get magic!

<Seems like you've got it all planned out. I'll guide you to Ptorimea then.>

Ptorimea, a funny name. Can you tell me anything more about... her?

<Ptorimea is a monolith shaman born in the halls of determination. Monoliths don't really have a concept of gender as they are just stone plates but this one has decided that she is a female. Becoming a shaman makes them weird but Ptorimea is on a different level.>

I go to the place Navi guides me to and enter a small dark oak wood library. I walk further in and find a desk littered with stone slabs. What are stone slabs doing in a library?

"Oh, are you new here? Welcome to my little library. I hope you like it."

A low and drawn-out voice echoes through the library. The voice sounds like it was spoken into a long pipe making it hollow and scrambled. I look over and see a large stone plate made from a dark blue rock float towards me. Lines of light blue markings run all over the stone and form patterns that shine in the half-dark library.
