Capítulo 85: Muddy diversion (2)

How could I forget about the dungeon map! And to think that Guy noticed before me.

While Guy engages the scout in front of us I look at my dungeon map and begin to climb up a tree.

The other scouts are still closing in on us and if the scout Guy is currently fighting is any indication the others are also traveling through the treetops. The map has a zoom and a drag function so I could get a closer look and ascertain it but that's just a waste of time.

If and that is only if those scouts actually travel on the ground then I'll just drop down onto them.

I reach the tree trunks top and start to maneuver through the branches covered in dark green leaves to gain a good vantage point. A phantom wind rustles the foliage and masks all sounds made up here.

I look around and with the dungeon map's help, I easily spot a shadow leaping from tree branch to tree branch with a supernatural sense of lightness. This must be one of the scouts.

I observe him for a moment and notice that every time he is about to land on a branch there is a small gust of wind that runs through the leaves. The branches he lands on barely bend even if they are clearly unable to support his weight.

He must be using wind magic or a skill with similar effects. The elf, a male this time, has long black hair and his face is real boyfriend material. However, his eyes seem absent and his body is all tensed up.

He barely pays attention to his surroundings and is just closing in on the clamor made by the wannabe goblins. His hands are empty right now but he keeps reaching for two handles at his waist.

I can only assume that he knew the elf we killed and his emotions are clouding his mind. He is wide open and I definitely won't let this chance slip by.

I patiently wait until he passes by my position before I strike. Since these elves seem to be very sensitive to killing intent I hide my intentions through the ultimate trick.

Don't mind me, I'm just eating a delicious-looking chicken drumstick.

And snap! My fangs sink into his ankle and before he realizes what is going on I wrap myself around his legs. The elf fails his next jump due to his legs being entangled and falls from the treetops.

While we are falling I snake up his legs while giving him the occasional bite. Is it just me or does his skin get softer with every bite?

<How can you not know the effects of your own skills?!! Your sanguine bite skill temporarily decreases an enemy's constitution stat with every consecutive bite.>

Oh, that's a useful skill. I should bite him a few more times.

Finally I reach my goal. We are just about to reach the ground and I only have one last opportunity to sink my fangs into him. I want to make this one count.

The elf is still processing what's happening when I flash forward and he screams pitifully. My fangs sink into soft flesh and as I pull back I can see the blood gush out. Right in the crown jewels!

My jubilant mood at my opponent's misery is cut short as we hit the ground. Due to my rather distracting advances, the elf had no chance to land on his feet and instead lands on his left shoulder. I hear the crunching sounds of something, probably bones, breaking and get flung off by the impact.

Since the elf absorbed most of the shock upon colliding with the ground I am unhurt as I land a meter away.

The elf yells in both anger and pain as he jumps to his feet. He grips the handles at his waist and draws two sickle blades. He is visibly struggling to keep his left arm steady so he must gave truly gotten hurt from the fall.

I simply keep my distance and wait. He seems confused by my actions and is about to change towards me when he gets bitten in the left shoulder by a wannabe goblin.

We hadn't exactly been quiet when we fell from the tree so the wannabe goblins had taken notice. The ones closest to us had decided that this elf was a good target and had run over. The poor guy had been so preoccupied with his thoughts of slaughtering me that he hadn't even noticed the killing intent directed at his exposed back.

Now that those that teeth are sinking into his injured shoulder he notices the group of green buggers surrounding him. His face contorts and he starts to hack at the wannabe goblins like a madman.

Aren't elves supposed to be dignified?

To make the elf's life a little harder I send some energy fangs his way. He can easily cut them apart with one of his sickles but doing so while fighting if the wannabe goblins proves a real challenge. Especially since I coincidentally aim all my attacks at his left side forcing him to either strain his injured shoulder or waste energy to turn his entire body around and use his right.

As we fight the elf calms down. I want to rile him up again but there is no good opportunity to do so. He quickly realizes that I am far more dangerous to him than any of the green pests that try to swarm him. I think I'm in trouble.

"Guiding winds, blow fast and make my steps light. Tempest stride!"

A light green glow settles around his legs and he suddenly speeds up. He nimbly dodges past some of the wannabe goblins and comes straight for me. Time to use my trump card!

While he is running past a wannabe goblin he killed before I throw my all into a spell.

"Sanguine blood, flow like water and take my enemy's footing. Slippery blood!"
