Capítulo 83: Swamp (3)

Author's note: in this chapter, there will be a slightly gory scene. I have marked it with a || at the beginning and end so if you'd rather skip it you can simply ignore that part.

The elf face plants straight into the muddy ground. A horrible squelch sounds as her face is covered in mud. At least she won't have to worry about the blood in her eyes anymore.

The wannabe goblins are over her within seconds. With feral expressions, they throw themselves at her fallen body.

Right before they reach her, the elf rolls over and jumps to her feet. Her hands flash making two real and six energy daggers slash through the air and the closest wannabe goblins.

Ribbons of dark green skin fly through the air but the horde of at least a hundred wannabes is undeterred. Feeling the bloodlust of that horde approach the elf begins to cast a spell once again.

"Oh wind, blow away my enemies and clear a path for my escape. Tempest bulwark!"

Once again a gust surrounds her and as it expands the wind wall forces the wannabe goblins back. The spell only lasts for a few seconds though. Wanting to use that brief time of peace the elf hastily attempts to clear the mud and blood out of her eyes.

I wonder, is that the only spell she knows?

<Most likely she knows a couple more but none of them will aid her current situation. As stated in her chant she wishes to escape and avoid the fight.>

The spell has worn out and the wannabe goblins advance once more. Guy doesn't join them and instead flings another javelin. As I look at the javelin I can't help but feel that it's different from before.

And indeed, the elf seems too preoccupied with the charging wannabes to notice the javelin. The javelin hits her left shoulder but once again the elf's high constitution stat saves her from being badly injured.

The javelin barely pierces her skin before losing its momentum. However, the sudden impact on her shoulder ruins the elf's balance prompting her to fall, again. This time she falls backward while wildly slashing with her daggers sending energy daggers flying in all directions.

The wannabe goblins are too close this time and before she can even begin to cast her spell they are upon her.

|| The elf is grabbed by the ankle and one of the wannabe goblins directly bites into her leg. She screams in pain at the force behind the bite when another one of her assailants jams his hand into her open mouth.

Her tongue is grabbed and the wannabe goblin tries to rip it out but he isn't strong enough. But he doesn't let go and keeps trying while digging his sharp nails into her tongue. The elf is in pain and her ability to chant is entirely taken away from her.

She tries to fight back with her daggers but her arms are immediately pinned down and riddled with savage bites. Some of the wannabe goblins attempt to steal her daggers but the elf's grip is firm.

Unwilling to give up on the shiny treasures now covered in blood they begin to gnaw off her fingers. Blood spurts like crazy as the fingers come off and the daggers are taken. The elf begins to struggle harder as desperation and the torturous pain give her new strength.

In a bid to restore her ability to chant she bites down hard on the fingers of the wannabe goblin holding her tongue. He screams and punches her in the face. Her bite wasn't strong enough to sever his fingers so his hold on her tongue persists.

Unfortunately, at that moment the wannabe goblin next to the one holding her tongue gets his hands on one of the daggers. Seeing her bite down on his friend he is enraged and shoves the dagger into her mouth.

I can't see what exactly he hit with the dagger but choking sounds coming from her mouth he drew blood. The dagger is pulled out and with a bestial scream from the elf, the other wannabe goblin succeeds in ripping out her tongue.

The elf is now livid and struggles with everything she has left as the blood in her mouth must be clogging up her airways. Some of the wannabe goblins are nearly shaken off but more simply pile onto her clawing and biting whatever they can reach. ||

I can hardly watch the brutal spectacle before my eyes but looking away seems even more impossible. My body is frozen, watching but not quite comprehending what it is I'm looking at.

A green blur rushes past me and kicks some of the wannabe goblins off the elf. Guy's face is contorted by anger as he rams his javelin into the elf's heart with so much force that the javelin breaks.

The elf's life that had been teetering on the edge is ended instantaneously and her head slumps to the ground as the light fades from her eyes. After the body has stopped struggling the wannabe goblins lose all their feral excitement and quiet down. Guy stares them down angrily and says only one sentence.

"Kill your enemies!"

Those three words hold a sense of gravitas that makes me shudder. The wannabe goblins all freeze on the spot and their eyes go blank for a moment before they start to nod.

What has just happened?

<Guy's instructing skill suddenly leveled up. We theorize that his intense urge to teach the kobaloi some manners jump-started the process. Since the kobaloi are low intelligence creatures his skill has more influence on them. It's like using a permanent marker to draw on a blank piece of paper.>

So what? His skill allows him to control those idiots' minds?

<No, it allows him to vehemently impart his teachings into their minds. Normally such a thing could easily be blocked by your own ideals but those idiots as you call them are like blank slates. All they have in their minds is to go wild when seeing an enemy. Guy just added 'and kill them' to that.>

So they will now try to kill the enemy?

<We have no prior knowledge of the workings of this skill. All we can do for the moment is make conjectures.>
