Capítulo 60: Sanguine memories
Well, that's a fine mess. I was going to punch Guy for just shoving me aside but it seems he has bigger issues right now. Looks like his wife found out about his job. Will we have to kill her now since she's human and all?
<No need for such drastic measures just yet. I doubt she will sell out her husband just because he is a monster now.>
But you still said "yet". Does that mean that if she does try to talk to other people you will kill her?
<As an absolute last measure we would do that. But before that, we have an assortment of measures to take that do not involve fatalities.>
Such as?
<Threats, memory-erasing, mind control, illusions, and many more. Melody isn't the first one to find out but I hope she will be one of the easiest to deal with.>
I hope so too, Guy seems like a nice guy. It would be a shame if his family would break up and he became a broken man.
<All this depressing talk aside, we have managed to complete the first model of the sanguine VR program. And we even found a beta tester!>
So quick?
Who is it? Sanguine swordsmen should be rare. I thought we'd have to wait at least a month for someone to come.

Master's son?!! Memories that I tried all too hard to forget come rushing back in and threaten to overwhelm me. I run to the employee dining hall as fast as I can and eat myself into a food coma. This way I won't have to think...
As my consciousness returns, I find myself in my bed. Did I pass out from overeating?
<You most certainly did. What possessed you to do that? You were eating like your life depended on it.>
Can't you read my thoughts? Why ask me?
<I did see some things but they were just flashing images and most of them were too blurry to understand what was happening. Won't you tell me? It would be better since you have to deal with Kent at some point.>
Sigh, Kent isn't the problem here, heck, I don't even know him that well. Can we talk face to face? This mind talk is a little...
<Sure, how about we have a little sparring session. Grief is best discussed while exercising. Meet me in the gym.>
A few minutes later I enter the gym and look around.
"Over here."
A gorgeous blonde woman is standing on a raised boxing ring platform and waving at me. She's wearing a loose black tank top and white, comfortable-looking pants that go to her ankles. Not what I expected.
"Stop looking at me like a creep and come on over."
I pull myself into the ring and stand opposite her. She looks even more gorgeous up close. Is she wearing make-up?
"Jade, you are such a shameless flirt. This is all-natural!"
I'm not a flirt! You are in my head!
"Fine, fine. Now let's get in some exercise while you tell me about your connection to Oden bloodborne. And don't hesitate to use your skills, you won't be able to hurt me."
Navi launches forward and tries to punch me. She hits like a girl. Can she really fight?
I easily dodge and punch back with the proper form but my fist doesn't even graze Navi before she flips away. The fight isn't really that heated yet so I guess I should start talking.
"Anyway, I come from a family of warriors where the family's honor is the only thing that matters. An affinity for attaining an advanced class, the berserker, runs through our veins so all children are tested at twelve. My test delivered a mysterious response and first I was believed to be talentless.
"That was when master Oden contacted my father and asked to test my talent to acquire the sanguine swordsman class. Naturally, with master Oden's fame, my family was ecstatic. I took the test and passed but master Oden didn't directly accept me as his disciple.
"He brought forth a condition. My position as his disciple wasn't to be made public and I would train in secret. My father disregarded everything and accepted on my behalf. He hoped that once I had grown strong enough, master Oden would publicly announce me as his disciple.
"Turns out that my unofficial discipleship was merely to cover for his son. Master Oden's enemies would have killed his son if they knew he had talent. When their investigation revealed that I was taught by master, they got careless and master killed them.
"After that, I was of no more use to master so he threw me out. Since I wasn't officially his disciple, he had no obligation towards me and his reputation wouldn't suffer. My father on the other hand had been boasting to some people, trying to use master Oden's position to gain benefits for the family.
"With master Oden cutting all ties with me, our family became the laughing stock of high society. To curb the shame, my father then decided to disown me and wipe out all traces of my existence."
Just thinking of what happened makes my mind want to curl up and stop moving. I feel an incredibly heavy lethargy overcoming me. Navi doesn't let that opportunity slip and advances. Instead of a feeble punch, her leg shoots up and her foot connects with my lower jaw.
The speed of that kick as well as its execution are top tier. No wonder her punches were so weak.
Still, her kick is powerful but within the range of what I can take. She must be holding back. Nevertheless, I'm flung to the edge of the ring like a rag doll.
"No time to drown in your own grief. Watch out Jade, I'm stepping it up."
An overhead axe kick comes down aiming for my head. I'm forced to push the lethargic feeling out of my mind and throw myself to the side.
