Capítulo 4: chapter three

i got to school, my hands gripping on the straps of my backpack and rushing to my room. i got in, catching my breathe as i took a seat.

"you always worry about being late." taehyung's voice greeted me. i glanced at him and he immediately flashed a smile.

i took my book out, my eyes landing on the outside field. it was a good thing that i sat next to a window, at least i get a better view of the soccer field.

"who are you looking for outside?" i turned my head and met taehyung's playful gaze. his face was just a couple of meters away from me, i then felt heat directly rushing to my cheeks.

i looked away, my eyes looking towards the board. i heard taehyung's deep chuckle which made it more worse, "i thought we were friends already?" taehyung leaned near me, his shoulder brushing with mine.

"our professor might see us." i managed to say, moving a bit to avoid more contact with taehyung. i saw him nod from my peripheral view which made me sigh in relief.

classes continued and i often found myself glancing towards the window, trying to find the same boy who had been bothering my mind ever since i met him.

when school was over, i said goodbye to taehyung and headed to the tree but no jimin can be found. why is he not here? i reminded myself that it might be a good thing that he wasn't here since that must mean he's doing alright in his world.

"jimin? are you not here anymore?" i asked, only the cold breeze answered me. i turned my back around, ready to walk back when some kind of force was not letting me go. my knees felt weak, as if it would give out any second.

i lost balance and was about to land on the ground when taehyung managed to hold me on my shoulders.

"woah there, are you alright?" taehyung asked, concern washed over his face as he held onto me tighter.

"i am." i pulled myself away from his hold, "why are you here?"

his hand went to his nape, "i just thought you'd be here and i wanted to see how you were doing." he muttered, his eyes meeting mine as he finished his sentence.

"was it because of my sudden breakdown in front of you yesterday? i'm fine, i'm sorry for what i did." my head was down, not having enough courage to face him.

"hey, breaking down isn't something you need to be sorry about. people get sad and that's okay, no one will commend you for holding it in so let it out anytime." taehyung stepped closer, a short distance separating the both of us.

my eyes landed on his hand, he seemed like he wanted to do something but he couldn't do it. he clenched his hand before loosening it and speaking again, "just remember that i'm always here, i didn't bother you for years just leave you now when you're finally talking to me."

i raised my head, my eyes meeting his soft brown ones.

"thank you, taehyung-ssi." i smiled, sincerely this time.

his hands went to grab my cheeks, squishing it before he broke into a fit of giggles. i glanced at him, his eyes softening once more as he flashed me his signature smile.

"i need to go home, i'll see you tomorrow." i waved my hand, before turning and walking my way towards the car.

going straight home, i decided to distract myself with my school works and requirements. i tried my best not to think about jimin or just generally the situation that was happening, but i couldn't. because every time my gaze would land on the couch, i would just think about him and his smile.

"get a grip, hanbyeol. he's fine, you should be happy for him." i told myself, laying down on my bed as i gripped my pillow. "sleep, you have school tomorrow." i told myself before drifting to dreamland.

days passed and and i found myself slowly forgetting the incident with jimin. he said that when he came back to his world after we met, he couldn't remember anything. is that why i was slowly forgetting as well?

me and taehyung became friends but we're still on the getting to know each other stage. he likes dragging me with him and he always tries to get me to eat with him during lunch but i declined. as much i did appreciate everything he was doing, i was happy being alone during lunch time.

"even just for today?" taehyung pouted, his eyes seemed to be pleading. i smiled at him and shook my head no before slinging my backpack.

"you know i like being alone during lunch." i told him, pushing him towards the door and outside, "go, your friends might be waiting for you." i muttered, smiling at him,

"you're also my friend but fine, if you say so." he waved his hand, his pout already replaced by a big smile.

i went to my usual spot next to the tree, taking out my snacks and started eating them. i went through my bag, trying to find a piece of my favorite candy. but then what my hand found was a piece of paper.

opening it, few scribbled words were written.

do you still remember me?

of course i do, jimin. for a minute, the letter sounded a bit creepy.

i grabbed my phone from my bag, checking through my notifications when i saw a text message from my brother telling me to go home right after school finishes.

as lunch had finished, i went back to class. professors came and left, all i had in my mind was jimin.

straight after classes were done, i headed home just like how hyunjun told me to. i'm guessing dad was home that's why we had to be complete.

dinner happened and silence engulfed the whole room, "i got in contact with your professors today, some said you're doing well as usual and some said you've been distracted." my dad started, his glare landing on me.

"it won't happen again." i mumbled, avoiding the conversation to lengthen.

"i heard you're finally communicating with taehyung. stop it." i got flustered with what dad had said, i looked at him and saw him staring back at me.

"he's a great guy." i said.

"it's not taehyung who's the problem, but it's the group of friends he hangs out with. you know that i don't want you hanging out with those kind of kids, you're far different from them." he stated making my eyebrows furrow in response, "eat and study." he finished off before leaving the table.

"we're happy that you're finally making friends but you know dad, he's capable of doing something that can hurt you." seojun glanced at me, flashing a sincere smile on his lips.

"i know that's why i'm scared." i then excused myself and headed back to my room. i cleaned up and did my school requirements.

as much as i wanted to distract myself from other thoughts, jimin and taehyung kept on bugging me and entering my mind all of a sudden. thoughts about the two of them couldn't let me be in peace.

i grabbed my phone, trying to find a way to ease my mind, even just for a couple of minutes. i would be in a big trouble if my dad catches me just scrolling down on my phone.

feeling exhausted, i turned off my phone and laid down on my bed, wrapping myself with the sheets. i placed my phone on the side table, enjoying the silence even just for a while.

"earth to hanbyeol, are you with me?" taehyung's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, "you look so distracted, are you alright?" he asks.

i nodded, my gaze once again landing on the scenery outside the window. i was about to look away when i saw jimin sitting next to the tree, his body leaned and slumped while he looked somewhere near one of the doors of the university.

the door i usually use when exiting the halls, i thought.

"do you see someone? is it the guy you were talking about?" taehyung's voice made me turn to look at him, he was as well looking outside while he squinted his eyes.

"do you really believe me, taehyung-ssi?" i asked him in a low voice.

he nodded, "how many times do i have to answer that question? i believe every single word you say and please drop the honorifics." he tried to keep his voice low, afraid to catch attention from the others.

"taehyung and hanbyeol, this isn't time for your gossips. focus on the lesson please before i actually kick you out of this room." our professor called out, grabbing everyone's attention.

we both nodded and kept quite the whole time.

"you know, i have been called out three times because of you. and i have never been called out in class before, taehyung-ssi." i told him as i let him drag me outside and towards the tree.

he was far too excited to meet jimin, i didn't know wether he was saying those to entertain me or if he really does believe me.

"is he here?" taehyung asked me, loosening his grip on my hand, "introduce me to him. jimin! are you there?" he shouted out of nowhere.

jimin looked at taehyung with a confused and bewildered expression on his face, "tell him to stop shouting." jimin told me and i nodded.

"he told you to shut up," taehyung immediately zipped his mouth while giving me a sudden frown, "give me your hand." i asked taehyung, feeling suddenly embarrassed with the set of words i chose.

nevertheless, taehyung reached his hand out. i looked at jimin and signaled him to do the same, he did what i told him to do and reached for taehyung's hand.

i saw taehyung shuddered in response, "are you sure he's not a ghost? that was some cold contact there." he said, still staring at his hand.

"he is?" i asked, i turned to look at jimin and he just shrugged. looking back at taehyung, he seemed like a kid who discovered something new.

"hi, i'm taehyung and i just officially became hanbyeol's bestfriend." taehyung widely smiled as he mentioned my name and waved at jimin's direction.

although they couldn't see each other, it was quite fascinating to see them get along with other so well. though they had to communicate through papers and pen, sometimes even with me as their bridge.

and when lunch time was finally over, taehyung and i both said goodbye to jimin.

"let's talk later." i had told jimin and he nodded.

"i'll be waiting here, if i'm not here then go home." jimin smiled before taking a seat next to the tree and waving us a goodbye.

along the way, taehyung couldn't stop telling me how amazed he was. he went with the lines 'i was talking to someone invisible' and 'i wish i can be invisible'.

i chuckled at taehyung's childish behavior, "i'll see you around." he said before we separated ways as we had different classes this time.

classes went on and of course, it couldn't get anymore boring. remembering my dad's words from last evening, i started jotting down notes and even listened to our professor.

dad has eyes on me everywhere. he had the principal and the teachers at school under his order so he could ask them to watch over me. all my actions were limited every time i was inside a room, it just felt like the professors are only teaching me and not the others.

"prepare for a test on our next meeting." mr. kim said his last words before ending classes.

i got my bag and was about to exit the room when he called out for me, "your dad said to hand you these, it's extra notes." he rudely shove the papers into my hands before exiting the room.

"i'm sorry." i muttered, only to be left unheard once again.
