Grayson headed into the chalet, passing the balding front desk clerk—who discreetly averted his eyes, pretending not to notice—and headed toward the elevator. Grayson hit the button and the door opened. A moment later, the elevator stopped on the second floor. Grayson walked purposefully toward their room where two guards were waiting outside.

Grayson stopped in front of the door and placed his hands on his hips. “Who was on duty and let Marcus Pierce in?”

One agent shook his head, raising his shoulders.

The other agent said, “I was, sir.”

Grayson looked into his eyes. “What the hell were you thinking? Letting Marcus in like that?”

“Well, this is a public place.” The agent shrugged. “Anyone can come here—”

“Not hardly,” Grayson replied. “Not when they’ve made open threats to the Crown.”

“I... I—”

“You’re fired,” Grayson replied, not waiting for an explanation.

“What’s this all about?” Piers voice rang out behind him down the hallway, his footsteps coming up fast.
