Capítulo 18: The Test
Trey gave Kalawarner a confused and surprised look, no matter how much his inner self was freaking out he had to maintain a composed character. "Umm hi, can I help you with something?"
The fallen angel pointed at the direction that Raynare had ran to, "What's going on between you two?"
Trey pretended to be taken aback, "Sorry I don't quite follow, who are you, and why are you speaking to me in such a manner?"
Kalawarner looked at him and leaked some killing intent, "Just answer the goddamn question what is your connection with the girl you were just with."
'Damn it woman why can't you ask nicely, if I spill all the beans then It could be seen as a weakness. That could make you kill me because I would seem like, even more, a bug to you. You'd probably kill me and justify it by saying that you were doing it for the good of Raynare or something. Then there's the fact that if I stand up and act tough and I'll annoy you, which would also lead to my death.'
He looked at her, sighed, and turned around to walk to the center of town. Kalawarner immediately grabbed the back of his collar and pulled him to her, "Don't you dare turn your ba...."
Before she could finish her sentence Trey grabbed ahold of her hand, he jumped back and used his left foot to unbalance her body and make her fall forward. In the end, Trey had her kneeling on one knee with her right hand behind her. If he wanted he could break her arm, at least he believed he could. After all, Trey had no idea the difference between a fallen angel's body and that of a human.
"You little shit, you will regret this humiliation."
He leaned towards her ear and whispered, "Listen I don't know who you are or why you care so much about my relationship with Yuma. All I know is that you have a really bitchy attitude and I don't like that. Next time you want to ask someone something just ask nicely and stop being so high and mighty."
After he was done giving his little speech he started to let go of her hand and stepped back.
Kalawarner stood up and cleaned her kneecap that had gotten dirty, she then straightened up and stared at him with eyes full of anger.
Trey looked around and found people looking at them, a man came up to them and got in between him and Kalawarner. "You fuckin kid what do you think that you are doing to a beauty such as her."
Trey sighed and turned around for the second time, 'Buddy, you go ahead and act like the hero. Keep her busy while I make my escape.'
Suddenly behind him, he heard the fallen angel, "Get out of my way, this is none of your business."
He turned around just in time to see her push the man aside as she walked towards him.
"Look lady before this whole thing gets even more out of control let's push the reset button. My name is Trey a highschooler at Kuoh Academy, and you are?"
Her facial expression relaxed somewhat, and after a few seconds, she responded, "My name is Kalawarner, I'm a friend of Yuma and I'm interested to know what exactly is going on with you two. I figure that my question no longer needs to be answered, the way she was acting around you and the way you responded to my question are more than enough. I have to say, I like your spirit. I'm annoyed by it but it is different than the rest of the people and it's refreshing in a way. I can see why Yuma keeps you around."
Trey gave himself a face slap and shook his head, "You just have to spit poison everywhere don't you. Even your compliments are offensive..... So are you really Yuma's friend?"
She nodded, "Yeah, we've been colleagues for a while. We usually share everything and that's why I was curious about why she suddenly began acting so differently. It was my day off today and I followed her here and well imagine my surprise when I discovered you."
He gave her a confused expression, "Colleagues? She's a high schooler like me and from what I know about her she doesn't work. Also, why are you making it seem like her being with me is such a big surprise? What, is she not allowed to date? Hell, I would be surprised if someone as cute and sweet as her doesn't have someone in her life."
Kalawarner looked at him and began laughing loudly, "You really know nothing haha? Well, who am I to ruin her fun. The thing that I want to know is just how did you do it? What made her so interested in you? I mean you're cute but I've seen better, you seem to know how to defend yourself but this is a big world, and compared to some of the dangers you would be as defenseless as a bug."
Trey sighed and pointed at the cafe where he and Raynare had just left, "Look, as much as I enjoy being treated as an object this whole thing is wearing me out. You said that you followed Yuma and me yet I didn't see you in the cafe, does that mean you skipped out on breakfast? Would you like to join me for some coffee?"
She laughed and looked at him with eyes that had a slight spark of interest, "Don't tell me you're going to try and hit on me?"
He shook his head and grabbed her hand, "The hell you talking about? You don't think I'm going to just leave you alone after saying all those things, do you? You seem to have a deeper understanding of Yuma, I can't waste this chance of knowing what exactly I'm going to get myself in."
They went in and he ordered another coffee while Kalawarner got crazy and got herself lots of different desserts. The people who ran the Cafe seemed to have misunderstood the situation and they gave him weird looks. He wasn't sure if they did it on purpose but his coffee was boiling hot.
'Looks like I'm going to have to start avoiding this place. At least things with Kalawarner seem to have been smoothed out. The reason that I invited her here was so that I could keep track of her and buy myself time for Hanzo's cooldown to be over in case she tries anything.'
During their time there she avoided answering any questions about Raynare, she avoided them by saying that it's something he should find out for himself. When she had finally finished all her deserts she asked for a pen and wrote something down on a napkin.
Kalawarner stood up and put the napkin inside the pocket on his sweater and suddenly leaned forward and gave him a short kiss on the mouth.
"There's more where that came from, all you have to do is call that number. Oh and let's keep all this between us, there is no need to let Yuma know about all this."
She gave him one last smile and began walking away, he could tell that she was adding a sexy movement to her hips.
He looked at the paper and found a phone number.

'Ummmm the hell just happened? Is this her way of toying with me? Was all this a test, is it possible that Raynare is testing my loyalty? On one hand, if I don't tell Raynare about this and she finds out from Kalawarner then I'm screwed. The thing is that If I tell her what happened and she confronts Kalawarner then miniskirt here will be pissed. Of course, if this was all a test and Raynare already knows about all this and Kalawarner was in on it then I have no reason to fear for telling..... Phew thank god for the process of elimination, I will stick with loyalty.'
He grabbed his phone and began calling Raynare, it rang a few times before she picked up. "Oh, hi Trey"
"Hey Yuma, listen I loved the conversation that we had this morning and I want you to know that I love you and that I don't want there to be any secrets between us, if possible. I'm going to tell you something that just happened and I want you to hear me till the end, alright?"
There was a slight pause before she answered, "Right….. We shouldn't have secrets unless we have a very good reason. And like I said before I love you as well so tell me what happened?"
"Soooooo when I was leaving the cafe a friend of yours came to talk to me, she said her name was Kalawarner. Anyway, she was asking about our relationship but in a pretty mean way, I might have gotten her on an arm-lock out of instinct when she tried to pull me from my collar. After that, we were able to make peace and I invited her to the cafe so I could learn more about you. While I was talking to her she kept avoiding questions related to you so we started talking about her. I figured that I would still learn more about you if I knew what type of friends you have. Soooo..... umm I don't know if my actions were misinterpreted but she gave me a small kiss on the lips and gave me her phone number."
There was a moment of silence before Raynare spoke again, "I see, thanks for telling me, you have no idea how much that means to me. Don't worry, nothing has changed in the way I feel about you, now if you excuse me I have someone I have to talk to. See you on Monday alright? Bye, love you."
She hung up and Trey was left massaging his head, 'Well there goes my theory about it being a test. Either she's a really good voice actor or Raynare really didn't know about Kalawarner.'
He went to another nearby cafe and bought some coffee and bread for his parents, when he arrived home they were sitting on the sofa watching the news.
[Over 30 bodies were found after a gang shooting last night. All bodies have been identified as gang members belonging to the Royal Bloods. Authorities are investigating further to find out who is to blame for this slaughter. We will keep you informed if anything new is discovered. Now let's move on to Ayame to know about the weather we can expect this week...…]
His mother hugged John, "Can you believe that there are monsters who can kill so many people? Those people might have made some wrong choices but no one has the right to decide when to end another's life. Son….."
Trey who had just finished washing the dishes stopped drying his hands, "Yes mom?"
"Since you are already in the kitchen can you bring me a cup of milk?"
"Sure"
For the rest of the day they watched War Against Z, it was a knock-off version of World War Z but it was still pretty decent.
After watching a few other movies he excused himself and headed off to his room.
"Son when you going to introduce me to your friend?"
He turned around and looked at his mother, "What friend?"
She smiled and pointed at his phone, "Don't think that I haven't seen the picture of the girl who calls you every now and then. So when are you going to bring her to the house?"
He laughed and scratched his head, "Soon, Umm actually about that, I have another date with her tomorrow and I might get home a little late sooo yeah."
From the couch he heard John yell out, "That's my son, ah I've taught you too well. Just make sure that both of you stay safe alright?"
Trey laughed and nodded, "I'll do my best to come back in one piece."
