Capítulo 15: Swordsman from the Past

"What was that newbie? That was brilliant!"

"I thought that you would end up dragging us down but it turns out I was wrong. You are definitly a talented rookie."

"Are you in a party? If not, do you wanna join ours? I would love to have a talented member like you in my team."

Will closed his eyes and slowly hummed to himself cheerfully as he heard a large amount of compliments coming from the crowd of adventurers around his wagon.

(A/N: I swear to god its like the mc is half the time blind. LOL)

"What was your name again rookie? I can't seem to recall it."

Will gave his arms a wide stretch before nestling into the wagon floor, finding himself a comfortable position to relax in.

"My name? My name is Roy, nice to meet ya."

(A/N: Hah! I bet you thought Will was gonna be respected. Well you thought wrong. Expectations subverted.)

"Why don't you leave the supplies wagon and join us in the adventurer's wagon in the back?" asked an adventurer while giving Roy a slap on the back. "I'll give you some useful tips that you need to know if you wish to become a successful adventurer."

"I would love to hear but you see I have a friend who-" Roy tried to explain until he was cut off by loud adventurer.

"Nonsense! Your friend wouldn't mind it if we borrowed you for a few hours right?"

"Phantom?" Roy called out as he turned to look over towards Will.

Will watched the trusting look that Roy was sending him through the two eyeholes on his eyes with a calm look before whispering into the air.

"Rina, what do you say we do with this person?"

Rina swirled into existence before giving Roy a sour look. "Get rid of him. He is so loud that its getting really annoying. I'll finally be able to sleep peacefully."

Will nodded his head before giving a small smirk. "Take him away sir. I'm sure that Roy is very excited to listen to words of advice coming from a professional like you."

The adventurer gave Will a nod of agreement. "Well said Newbie. You have a good eye and a good head. You will make it far in this world."

"Thank you for your compliment."

"Well, now that you have gained your friend's permission to leave, come. I have lots to teach you."

"But I need to have a duel with-"

"Eager for a spar is it? Very well. I'll let you spare with me once we set camp.

"Not you but Phantom-"

The adventurer shook his head with a chuckle. "Nonsense! You have more to learn from me than your friend over there. Now stop overthinking things and follow me."

"W-wait!"

The adventurer grabbed Roy on the shoulders and forcefully guided him away from Will's wagon and into the adventurer's wagon in the back of the wagon chain. Roy glanced back at Will with a betrayed expression, which Will responded with a small smile and a jolly wave.

Once the wagons had started moving again, everything was calm and peaceful once more. Listening to the far away songs of the birds, Will closed his eyes and basked in the warmth of the sunlight flitting through the leaves.

* * * * *

When the sun started to dip itself underneath the horizon, the voice of Jake yelled from the first most wagon to set camp. Will, who had slept peacefully due to the lack of a certain noisy boy and monsters, slowly lifted his upper torso from the wagon floor and got out of the wagon and cracked his neck. Feeling that his mask was a bit skewed from sleeping, Will readjusted his mask before helping the others with setting camp for the night.

Since it was his first time sleeping outdoors, Will made sure to pay close attention to what the others were doing and how they did it as it was fairly certain that one day Will would have to set camp on his own. After the camp had been set, it was time for dinner and Will stood in line to receive his portion of food. He quickly scanned around for Roy and spotted him surrounded by a couple other adventurers further behind the line.

It was understandable why all the others flocked towards Roy as such. During the battle against the goblin hoard, Roy leapt in to the swarming mass of goblins while brandishing a sword enveloped in fire. Like the Hero of Flames, nothing seemed to be able Roy's advanced as goblins fell here and there sometimes cut in half and in other times charred black. Although goblins were indeed a very weak branch of monsters, Roy's future potential was something undeniable. Even though his sword skills may be a little rusty and unpolished, Roy could easily become someone famous if given enough time to grow. Anyone with the ability to coat their blade in mana, or like Roy in a certain element, would be able to glide through the sword ranks until one reached the level of a master swordsman.

Will glanced down at his sheathed blade and stared at it with a steady gaze. It was something that Will had been unable to accomplish. It was also the reason why Will's only sword style, Flowing Water Style, was still stuck at level 1even after so many years and hours of practice. With an indifferent look, Will took out his phone and clicked on his skill.

[ Skills ]

{Flowing Water Style (F)}

A Royal technique that has been passed down for generations. The main focus is to let your blade flow freely like water. To slice instead of shove, to redirect instead of defending, to pierce instead of stab. If you wish to advance this technique to the next level, embed the essence of water into your blade.

Mastery (99%)

Will narrowed his eyes at the numbers 99% for a long moment before placing his phone away. Once he had hoped that he would be able to become an unparalleled sword master and finally bring joy upon her face. Once he had hoped... but now that hope was withered to its very roots.

Will accepted the two particularly large pours of soup into his bowl with a cool look before heading over to a relatively isolated area and started to cleanly dine on the bowl of soup with an indifferent expression. Although the soup was warm and filling, Will could've been drinking water and wouldn't have been able to sense a difference in taste. After finishing his bowl, Will cleaned it with water that Rina had summoned for him and was about to make his way to his sleeping area when a voice stopped him.

"Phantom, let's duel. You and me, right here... right now."

It was Roy, standing there while looking at Roy with a small cheeky smile looking as easy going as ever.
