Capítulo 13: Goblins

"Three goblins up ahead," yelled a voice from one of the other wagons. "We need someone to-"

Before the voice could finish, a person came out from the wagon behind Will's with a bow and aimed at the goblins with a bored look. When the man released his string, the arrow flew straight past Will's wagon and towards somewhere up ahead. The man quickly knocked a second arrow and shot it forward once again but at a lower angle. However, after the man had knocked his third arrow and let it fly true, the man clicked his tongue and shot a fourth arrow before beading back in.

A few seconds later, Will watched as they drove past three dead goblins on the side of the road with arrows sticking out of them.

"That archer has a pretty good aim right? I've tried archery before but it really isn't a talent of mine. I have terrible aim you see. A sword suits me way better."

"The archer is indeed fairly decent," replied Will, his eyes still on the gradually shrinking bodies of the dead goblins. The sight of the corpses had somewhat burned itself into Will's mind. He was once again reminded that as an adventurer, the day he would reap a life would eventually appear.

"Hey Phantom. I know that you said you were a water spiritualist, which is a type of spirit mage, but by any chance are you a swordsman as well? You see, I noticed that you carried around a sword and couldn't help but feel interested in it. do you wanna spar with me when we set up camp for the night?"

"Hey Will," whispered an invisible Rina into his ear, "when will we leave this boy? This boy is a little loud and annoying. I can't sleep."

"We will set up for camp during the night and I'm pretty sure that things will be quiet then." Will replied.

"What about the wagon?"

"Three more days and then we will go by foot."

"Okay~"

Rina gave Will a cheerful reply as he closed his eyes and laid his head back against the wagon wall. He too was starting to get tired of Roy.

"Yo Phantom, come on. Let's have a light spar later alright?"

"What if I don't want to?"

"Oh come on, Phantom. Don't joke around. I know that you also want to spar with me."

Will couldn't take it anymore and let out a long sigh. "You know what, fine. You win. I'll spar with you under one condition."

Roy let out a yell of glee that caused Will to put on a frown. "Yes! I knew that you also wanted to fight with me. What is your condition, Phantom?"

"Shut the hell up until we camp for the night. I'm trying to sleep and you are loud and annoying."

"Deal," replied Roy with a silly grin before closing his mouth shut.

Will let out a sigh of relief as he could finally enjoy the sounds of peaceful forest. Although he could only see darkness as both of his eyes were closed, through the voices of the forest, Will could imagine the scenery as if it was a painting in front of him.

The birds were singing songs far away from the loud noise generated from the wagon's wheels as they rolled over the uneven road. They were most likely scared by their human presence and flew deeper into the forest. The warm sunlight touched his chin and lips, as well as the other parts of his body which were not covered with cloth or armor, causing his heart to slowly become serene. It's warmth was something Will truly enjoyed, just like the coolness one would feel when under the pouring rain. He heard the trees rustle with the winds, the horses' feet clack against stones, and people talking in the other wagons, often loudly with boisterous laughter. A small smile managed to squiggle its way onto Will's mouth, shaping it into a thin crescent. All his negative feelings from before had nearly evaporated from his mind.

"Goblin Lord up ahead with at least five Goblin Leaders and eighty-ish goblins. We are going to have to stop for a few minutes to clear them out before continuing on."

There were groans and complaints from the adventurers as the wagons slowly came to a stop. A middle aged man who seemed to be very experienced got out from the last wagon and started giving out orders. "Anyone who can fight should help clear out the goblins as even an F rank should be able to kill a few with an average weapon. D rank adventurers go target the Goblin Leaders, C ranks will follow me to take down the Goblin Lord as quick as possible. Understood?"

The majority of adventurers nodded and split into three groups as requested. A group of five to take down the Goblin Lord, seven to kill the Goblin leaders, and ten to hold of the hoard of goblins and protect the wagons.

Although the odds were slightly against the adventurers as each person had to kill eight goblins. due to the first and second groups went off to isolate and kill the stronger goblins, no one was really concerned. It only took a few minutes to reveal why.

Goblins to being with were a small greenish creature about the size of a regular child, and had about the same amount of strength as one as well. Any experienced would be able to defeat a goblin in a one versus one duel. The only thing that made them dangerous was that when they worked together in big numbers, they would be able to swarm, kill, and devour their enemies like a shoal of piranhas or an army of ants. To prevent this was to kill the Goblin Leaders and Lords as the only time goblins gathered in huge groups were when a goblin leader or goblin lord is born.

This was why it was essential to kill the Goblin Leaders first. If they focused on killing the regular goblins, the Goblin leaders or lord could run away and gather another large group.

Will quietly stared at the incoming hoard of goblins with an indifferent gaze and slowly drew his sword. No matter he did, Will realized, it was most likely that he would have to make his first kill today and he couldn't help but wonder...

How would it feel to take a life?
