Capítulo 33: Chapter 33: All that glitters is not gold.

"Well, then it's decided." Melida smiled looking amusedly at the rigid expression of the young woman, who was unhappy with how things turned out.

Sascha gave him an icy look and finished restocking the cold treatment drawers. With the cold season just around the corner, viral and allergic diseases would swarm like flies on milk among city residents.

The witch waited until she was done to do a quick warm check on the young woman's work. Then she nodded pleased. Despite her ignorance of market values, Sascha knew how to navigate a store.

"Turn the poster over, please."

Sascha nodded before rushing to obey. Not ten minutes had passed when the brass bell on the door rang, announcing the arrival of the first customer.

A man of average height, average features, and average complexion entered the store. His hair was black, with traces of white at the temples. His eyes were dark like those of most of the human population. His nose pointed proudly at the sky. His garment was a rich purple robe with silver trim at the collar and cuff that spoke for himself of his position in the world. This person was none other than the High Dean of the Crimson's only Private Academy, whose doors could only be entered by nobles and wealthy sons of merchants.

Why would such an illustrious figure stoop to running simple errands such as supplying the needs of the Academy? Was it that they did not have adequate manpower? Not, but the County Witch was not someone she could upset and her position far exceeded his. A matter that substantially displeased the Dean, but the witch had been more than clear on this point, she would not deal with anyone's lackeys.

So the prestigious and powerful Dean had no choice but to bite the bullet and bite the bullet once a week. He gave the witch a cursory, dismissive look, then blinked at Sascha. For a second the Dean's pupils dilated with traces of admiration and interest that Sascha ignored.

"Oh! But if he is nothing more than our illustrious Dean. He will wear the usual or do you have some kind of special request for this day? " Melida's tone was neither haughty nor servile, it was simply sociable and short more effectively than a knife the guy's attention.

Sascha sighed into her heart, and behind a calm and elegant countenance, she cursed her physique with full hands.

In response to the witch's words, the Dean's lips pursed, as if he had eaten something unpleasant. Perplexed, Sascha studied the man covertly, while Melida took care of him without showing signs of annoyance at the obvious contempt.

"As usual." The Dean nodded as if he was granting someone a great favor.

What was happening here? Sascha wondered if she had properly read the man. However, he did not say anything, he just continued to learn quietly from the witch, while writing down in a ledger the amount of ground magic herb powder that the man would take, plus the amount charged, as well as the return of the purchase.

The Dean gave the witch one last contemptuous look. Deeply buried in that gaze, behind layers and layers of insignificant emotion, Sascha discovered something else.

Afraid. Pure and crude fear. Despite his unpleasant and unpolite manner, the man deeply feared the witch.

The Dean snapped his fingers and instantly the door opened, two footmen entered. Under the cold gaze of his Master, both servants gave the witch a respectful bow, could they afford to offend the county Witch? Not, they were nothing more than small and insignificant commoners. Both men gave the beautiful woman behind the witch admiring glances, before quickly and efficiently grabbing the bags of goods and loading them into the Academy carriage.

The man's attention shifted to her and an unpleasant lustful expression covered her features, after which she simply left the store.

"What the heck was that?" Her skin twitched as if hundreds of cockroaches crawled on it and with a disgusted grimace, Sascha rubbed her arms.

But the witch was too lazy to explain, in her mind she had decided to let the young woman learn some truths for herself.

The rest of the morning passed in the same way. After that first person, a parade of clients of noble and distinguished appearance entered through the door of the store. Unlike that first person, the rest of them were courteous and polite in their dealings with the witch and her.

However, there was something that connected everyone, and it was an intrinsic and irrational fear underlying her behavior toward the witch. Sascha didn't understand, wasn't the witch the last barrier between monsters and humans? The county watchdog?

It was ten minutes to twelve when they were finally able to take a short break from so much work. Sascha blew on her sore fingers as she looked out the window, who would have thought scoring would be as arduous as digging herbs in the wild? Not her.

"Shall I put the closed sign?" she finally asked her when it was only five minutes to twelve.

"Do not." The witch denied and smacked her lips in annoyance. "That spoiled kid always comes last."

And as if her words had summoned him, a simple but well-built carriage, drawn by two sturdy horses, stopped at the door. Sascha cautiously watched the man climb out of the carriage, as well as the other two on the carriage davit. All three men wore light armor and the crest of the mage knights.

I have nothing to fear! She told herself as she took a deep breath.

At that moment the door opened once more and the tall and powerful man dressed in light armor entered the tent. Following the normal trend, the identity of this last customer could not be simple either. This was, after all, the Captain of the county mage knight garrison, as well his mana eyes and the emblem decorating his armor declared.

The Captain had short dark hair close to the skull, in a purely military style. Broad shoulders and narrow waist, his face so little was bad looking. His azure blue eyes had conquered more than one lady and his mouth made dozens more tremble with excitement. However, given Sascha's cold and distant temperament, the handsome male specimen was nothing to write home about.

"Noble Lady." The newcomer greeted Melida warmly and respectfully. Before turning in Sascha's direction, the man's eyes flickered and a trace of admiration and desire ran through the blue depths of his eyes. Too bad the only one with the power to shake Sascha's world was a true and dangerous monster. "Miss."

Sascha nodded briefly and took her place next to the witch behind the counter. The captain's gaze followed the young woman, who looked like a forest fairy with those beautiful, distant emerald manic eyes.

"I thought I told you not to come back at the last minute, Bran," Melida complained. The captain smiled lazily at the witch, while he looked meaningfully from the young woman to the old witch. Melida rolled her eyes, but even so, she gave the wizard a little face.

"Sascha this is Bran Blueward, the captain of the county mage knight regiment," Melida explained very dryly. "Bran, this girl is my granddaughter. Do a favor and spread the news for me, okay? "

Since when am I your granddaughter? Sascha's eyes trembled slightly, it took a great effort not to show her surprise and expose the witch's lie. Are you seriously using a nobleman as your messenger? The man was a captain and from what she correctly assumed very few commoners could achieve such ranks in society.

"In agreement." The captain nodded without further ado, obviously distracted and as for the reason for his distraction, was it necessary to explain?

"I suppose you will wear the usual, right?" Melida asked with an exasperated tinge to her voice.

"Add ten pounds of nettles, red clover, and powdered thyme to today's order, please," he said softly while still looking in Sascha's direction.

Sascha of course was ignorant of the feelings that she provoked in the opposite sex. In her mind, the only important thing right now were the hunger pangs shaking her stomach.

When will she leave? I'm starving! Following the witch's directives, Sascha quickly prepared the wizard's order in spiteful silence and in no time had everything packed up.

Bran took the order from him and seemed to want to linger in the store more, but Melida shooed him mercilessly. She turned her face and observed the impatient attitude of the young woman.

"Are you hungry?"

"I am failing," Sacha responded promptly and impatiently, drawing a smile from the old woman.

"Let's finish here then, hopefully, my relatives will have lunch ready for both of us."

Between the two of them, they quickly cleaned the store, turned off the lights, and put up the 'closed' sign. As they were about to return, Melida stopped Sascha and asked him a simple question. "What have you learned today?"

The question was so surprising that Sascha had to pause slightly, she recalled everything she had seen and heard today, as well as her impressions of her.

She faced the witch and finally answered. "I learned that everything that glitters is not gold, and not everything is what it seems."

Melida nodded very pleasedly. "So is. Make sure you remember."
