She takes a step forward, considering.

«Now I know why she could launch such a powerful attack at dawn. It was too late for a vampire and too early for a human mage. But she's neither of the two. You're something else, Julia. That's why everything I tried didn't work.»

«Kind of,» Julia replies with a shrug. «I didn't do anything in particular. Your powers don't work because the energy you use is incompatible with me.»
