2nd day of the survival test, in the morning...
Students from other classes began fully exploring the island. Hirata met a Class B student who was most likely looking for other classes, however, he himself had no qualms with telling others Class B's base camp.
"Iwamura, can I borrow your map for a minute please?" Unexpectedly, after the encounter with Class B's student named Kanzaki Ryuji, Ayanokoji approached Yuichi.
"Eh? Sure." Yuichi was slightly surprised that Ayanokoji approached him but he still acted as usual and handed the map to him.
"I will just make a primitive map on another paper so I won't get-" Before Ayanokoji could answer Yuichi's curious expression, he was interrupted
"What did you just say?!" It was Ike's voice coupled with Sudo's voice in addition. It was a pretty loud commotion so both of them turned their direction to see what's going on and they saw 2 students that were involved in previous Sudo's case. Both of them must have been sent by Ryuen since they were just trash-talking entire Class D and trying to bring their morale down by acting all careless.
"If you are interested in what it looks like to enjoy your holidays, I suggest visiting the beach. See ya later, suckers. Hahah" One of them said aloud before turning around, leaving Class D's campsite while laughing aloud.
"What a blatant provocation. Do you think they are actually hoping for us to go and have a look?" Yuichi muttered while looking at the leaving students with a stoic expression before glancing at Ayanokoji with a faint smile.
"...Maybe, who knows... Still, if it's the truth, doesn't that make you want to take a look anyway?" Ayanokoji replied while quickly drawing a primitive map on a small piece of paper.
"Of course anyone would want to take a look after what they have said. I wonder if those words were actually from them...they don't strike me as the brightest students."
'Looks like Ibuki was actually hiding away from them behind our tents...weird. If I was the same me during my first years in junior high school, I would have been convinced that she was really cast out by her classmates however, I am different from that time. Even if she is innocent, what does it matter? I don't lose anything by having my guard up against her.' Yuichi thought while glancing at Ibuki hiding behind the tents.
"Are sure that's appropriate things to say about your clubmates?" Ayanokoji asked with a slightly curious expression but Yuichi felt that it was just his way of changing the subject.
"...Ayanokoji-kun, do you watch anime?" Yuichi suddenly asked out of nowhere while looking into the forest with a calm expression.
"Eh? Can't say I do...Why?" Ayanokoji was caught slightly off guard by his question but he still replied while observing Yuichi's face to see any hints about his intentions.
"I don't watch them regularly but I have seen a few fascinating ones, however, I am not sure about your taste so I would like to take some time to think about it, by the end of this test, I will recommend you the best one I can think of, alright?" Yuichi said with a smile.
'...What is he trying to tell me? ...Maybe I will discover it only once he "recommends" it to me' Ayanokoji was slightly confused if Yuichi was just trying to have a friendly conversation and rope him into one of his smaller hobbies or if there was a hidden meaning in his words. Either way, he still nodded his head.
"What are you two doing?" Horikita interrupted their conversation from continuing.
"Hm? Can't we talk to each other or what?" Yuichi asked with a confused expression.
"That's not it. It's just...when I saw two of you speaking to each other so quietly, I felt uneasy." Horikita explained with a stern look on her face and folded arms.
Ayanokoji took the chance and said that they were just discussing the two students from Class C that just left. Horikita obviously said that it was just a provocation that they shouldn't fall for it but both Ayanokoji and Yuichi said that taking a peek won't hurt, thus, they were able to convince Horikita. Well, it felt like Ayanokoji was putting into that persuading much more effort than Yuichi.
When they went back to the beach through the dense forest, they were quite surprised by the sight in front of them.
"What are they doing?" Horikita muttered with a surprised yet confused expression. All students from Class C were enjoying their time by either playing beach volleyball, sunbathing, or doing many other fun activities.
"..." Yuichi's eyes also widened in surprise but he was actually calmly scanning the place with his eyes. When his eyes finally landed on the spot where Ryuen was sunbathing, he immediately noticed the table standing right next to him.
'Are those earphones and...*sigh* I see. I am still a bit suspicious why he hadn't hidden those things but maybe it was his slip up? Or maybe he doesn't expect anyone to notice it strange having those things when he is supposedly "enjoying" the summer.' Yuichi already saw what he wanted and he could slightly guess what is Ryuen's strategy but he would also like to check Class B and Class A's basecamp.
"Let's take a closer look" Ayanokoji suggested.
'Did he persuaded Horikita to come with him just so he could use her as his shield to scan around their base without looking suspicious? If that's so, being here will only help him draw attention to either me or Horikita...'
"Guys, I will go back to the campsite, I have already seen enough. I was just curious if what those 2 said was the truth and it seems like it." Yuichi said before turning around to once again enter the dense forest.
"Wait, you are already here. Will it hurt you to take a closer look?" Horikita asked with a confused expression.
"I will only be wasting time being here, instead, I will go back to the campsite and then right towards the Class B's basecamp. After all, I have yet to greet my friend there, good luck you two." Yuichi turned at Horikita and replied with a faint smile before leaving.
Horikita turned to Ayanokoji with a questioning gaze but he just shrugged his shoulders before they went to take a closer look.
...
'Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Horikita realizes that she is being used even in such an almost nonexistent way. Ayanokoji acts like a shadow and Horikita is like a too-bright light, making it convenient for him to do whatever he wants without casting any suspicion on himself. Horikita is quite smart and can tell when someone is using her so just the fact that she doesn't realize that she is already dancing on Ayanokoji's palm is another reason to be wary of him.' Yuichi thought on his way back to the camp.
.
.
"Hey, Mei, do you have time to spare?" Yuichi approached a group of girls that were helping around with the organization inside the camp.
Mei looked at her friends
"Just go already" Some of them giggled while "shooing" her away with their hands and knowing smiles on their faces.
Mei slightly blushed in embarrassment before she quickly ran to Yuichi's side.
"What is going on?" Mei asked worriedly, noticing a slightly tense atmosphere around Yuichi.
"Oh, I just wanted to take a walk and look at Class B's base camp, are you coming with me?" Yuichi noticed just now that he has been too tense and probably gloomy ever since he started being wary of Ayanokoji and now that he was thinking about Ryuen's strategy and Ayanokoji's intentions, the air around him must have been pretty tense.
.
.
.
"Wow, what are they thinking? Are they intending to quit this test once they spend all their allowance? Hihi." Yuichi explained Class C's situation to Mei and she couldn't help but joke a bit while giggling.
In the truth, Yuichi had no reason to tell anything to Mei, neither he has to discuss anything regarding this matter with her, however, he is still just a human, and when he is around her, he feels at peace. He still wants to have someone he can confidently share his thoughts with and Mei was that exact person to him.
"Most likely..." Yuichi replied with a faint smile.
"Wait, really?!" Mei stopped laughing and asked seriously with a surprised expression.
"Yes, they will quit, however, it is hard to tell if everyone will do so."
"But...Wouldn't someone notice if their leader remained on the island? After all, the spots display who is occupying it right at the moment." Mei asked with a curious expression.
"And why should they occupy the spots? Don't you remember that Ibuki-san is still in our camp? They are constantly losing points for the roll calls so trying to earn bonus points is completely useless, that's why they are also spending all of their points so fast." Yuichi explained with a patient smile.
"Whoa, now everything makes sense to me! You are really smart, Yu-chan!" Mei exclaimed with a shocked expression before praising Yuichi with an excited expression.
"I am not smart, I am just thinking about everything slowly and in a rational way."
"I still don't understand why you don't take a more active role in our class...I know that I have already asked this before but I want to know the truth." Mei muttered with her head down and slightly sad expression before stopping in front of Yuichi and raising her head, staring into his eyes with determination.
Yuichi looked into Mei's determined eyes before he closed his eyes in resignation.
'What should I do? Tell her the truth in short or use an excuse?'
Guys, do you have any recommendations on cultivation novels that might make a good fan-fic? (Both for comedy and fighting)
