"Aren't you being too humble?" Mei asked Yuichi with a confused expression.
"Being humble isn't bad thing, it lowers other people's expectations they have for you." Yuichi said with a cheeky grin.
"Is that how your parents were alright with your average grades despite you being able to get much better grades if you were to study more?" Mei counter-attacked with her own grin.
"...I have no idea what you are talking about. Anyway, we should slowly go back to the dorms." Yuichi said with an oblivious expression before getting up from his seat.
"Alright! ...Want to stop at a convenience store on the way?" Mei also got up from her seat and asked.
"That's not bad idea, at this time there shouldn't be many students so no queues for us." Yuichi looked up, thinking for a while before looking at Mei, accepting her suggestion.
.
.
.
*Ding* When they walked in the convenience store, they quickly separated. Mei went looking for a shampoo and other essential things while Yuichi went to check out the prices of regular goods. Yuichi also noticed a few students from his class, it was that black-haired girl with a proud look on her face and a brown-haired guy sitting behind him. However, he had no reason to talk to them so he let them argue between each other, well, they weren't exactly arguing but to say that it was a civilized conversation between 2 friends couldn't be said either.
While Yuichi was walking near the counter, he noticed something that made him smile a bit.
'A whole section of daily necessities for free of charge, huh?' Yuichi thought as he wanted to take a few goods from there into his shopping cart however he was interrupted.
"Um, Sir?"
Yuichi looked towards the counter and found out that it was the clerk who called him out.
"Yes? Is there something wrong?" Yuichi raised his eyebrow as he asked, their conversation naturally garnered a bit of attention.
---
"Hey, isn't that guy the one sitting in front of me?" Ayanokoji muttered, looking Yuichi's direction with his slightly dull brown eyes.
"Isn't that good for you, Ayanokoji-kun? You can stop pestering me and go make a friend...you know what? Don't go yet, I still want to ask him something, it would be inconvenient if you were to scare him with your stupid jokes." Horikita said, looking at Yuichi and waiting for him to finish his conversation with the clerk.
"Ouch...If you found my jokes stupid, you could have just asked me to stop much earlier..." Ayanokoji said however his whole act of pretending to be hurt was all dull and emotionless. Showing that he would never become a good actor.
---
"Sir, you are most likely 1st-year, right?" The clerk asked and Yuichi nodded his head.
"I would appreciate if you could leave those free of charge goods to students who actually need them if you have points to spend yourself." The clerk said which made Yuichi put down the goods in his hand back on the shelf.
"Is this some kind of school rule?" Yuichi asked but the clerk shook his head before being busy with another customer wanting to pay.
'So it's unspoken rule...If I were to take it, it would only make me appear bad but I wouldn't be penalized...Well, keeping image is also good and trading reputation for a pack of tissues isn't exactly worth.' Yuichi thought and wanted to go look into another section of the store but suddenly two people appeared on his left and right respectively.
"Hello, would you mind answering my question?"
Yuichi turned to his right and saw that black-haired girl with a shopping cart filled only with necessities.
"You are...Horikita Suzune, and your friend is Ayanokoji Kiyotaka, right?" Yuichi asked for confirmation before replying to her since she asked quite rudely without even introducing herself.
"I would appreciate it if you could refrain from calling that person 'my friend', however, you are absolutely right, how come you know this? I have never introduced myself during class." Horikita first burned Ayanokoji before asking with a raised eyebrow.
"The nameplate on your seat" Yuichi replied with an honest smile.
'The nameplate? I remember him glancing towards me only once and only for a split second...For him to remember this much...he is perceptive' Horikita thought with a furrowed brow.
"Anyway, please ask right away..." Yuichi gestured with his hand for her to continue.
"What did you talk about with Chabashira-sensei, that is if you don't mind telling us." Horikita asked with a curious look in her eyes.
"Interesting, did you assume that I went to talk with Sensei just based on my quick pace while leaving the classroom?" Yuichi first asked his own question with a curious smile.
Horikita nodded her head with a calm and indifferent expression.
"I see...Well, I don't see any problem with telling you. I went to make sure that she explained everything properly because as you probably already know, there are more questions than answers, for example, this new currency, Private Points. We have no idea how to acquire it, the only thing Sensei said is that we will be given those points the first day of the month." Yuichi continued with a furrowed brow to show his suspicion of the school.
"Is that the reason why you wanted to take those things free of charge?" Ayanakoji joined in, he probably felt ignored and left out so he tried to fit in the conversation.
"No matter the quality, free things are always good." Yuichi frowned and said towards Ayanokoji with a serious expression.
'Well, it's not exactly wrong...' Ayanokoji thought while looking at Yuichi's serious expression.
"So you also find this entire situation suspicious?" Horikita asked with crossed arms, completely ignoring Ayanokoji.
"To be honest, I would be more surprised by someone not being suspicious of it. Such an obvious trap, it's like placing money on the ground that is tied to a long string, however, in this case, at least you just lose your stamina and time for crouching down to take that money just to see it disappear in front of your face." Yuichi muttered with a mysterious smile while looking at some vegetables in plastic boxes. After checking the price of one box, he threw a few boxes into his shopping cart.
Ayanakoji who saw this, looked into his own shopping cart to find just 1 cup of instant noodles and he immediately saw from the corner of his eye that Horikita actually looked at him and smiled mockingly.
"Yuichi-kun! I've got everything, what about you-?" When Mei finally found Yuichi, she immediately approached him just to notice that he was once again talking to people from their class.
"You know each other?" Horikita sounded a bit surprised since she actually could remember Mei.
"Well, we came from the same Junior High school. Anyway, if there is nothing else, I will probably go to the counter to pay for all these things." Yuichi said, waiting for a few seconds if they want to ask anything else.
"The last thing, what exactly did Sensei tell you regarding your questions?" Horikita asked her last question.
"...I can't" Yuichi leaned a bit closer to Horikita and tried to mimic Chabashira while saying this before retreating once again with a smirk.
Hearing his answer, both Horikita and Ayanakoji frowned although Horikita's frown looked more genuine. She was most likely thinking hard about the reason why Sensei couldn't tell anything to Yuichi.
"Do you mind exchanging contact information?" Horikita asked with a serious expression.
"Huh?!"
"Eh?"
Both Mei and Ayanokoji were surprised to hear Horikita's blunt words.
"I don't mind, lend me your phone, I will lend you mine" Yuichi said and both exchanged contact information.
"I am done here, I imagine even you are done with your...shopping, Ayanokoji-kun. Let's finish shopping so we don't bother other students." Horikita said while looking into Ayanokoji's cart just to see 1 thing and that was a cup of instant noodles.
All 4 went to the counter to pay for everything however there was already a small queue and it seems like the one who was slowing it down was at front.
"Come on, hurry up. There is entire line of people waiting on you!"
"Yeah?! I will gladly hear out all of their complaints!"
Yuichi immediately recognized that voice responding to complaints.
Ayanokoji probably recognized that voice too so he stepped out of the queue and went to the front to check on the situation.
The one who was slowing down the queue was Sudo who forgot his ID card. Ayanokoji offered to buy him the thing he wanted and Sudo accepted. When Ayanokoji returned to the group of 3, the queue started to move once again very quickly.
"You are also a pushover, huh? Or perhaps that's your way of making friends..." Horikita muttered.
"I just wanted to help, if I were in his position, it would be a bother to go to the dorms just for the ID card and then come back." Ayanokoji said with a calm expression.
'This guy doesn't exactly look like the type of guy who wants to help others but I guess I shouldn't judge the book by its cover yet.' Yuichi thought while paying for his purchase with ID card and everything was ready within a second.
'It really works like normal credit card, let's look at my phone' Yuichi thought while slowly walking out of the store, checking the display on his phone.
