Capítulo 2: #2 Lies

"Yuichi! Hold up, young man!" Yuichi's mother stopped him from leaving the house.

"Hm? Yes?" Yuichi stopped opening the door and turned to his mother with a confused expression.

"You have been behaving strangely for the entire month already...You have been going out at the same time and when you returned you were completely exhausted, after some time, you were even returning with a few bruises over your body...What are you not telling me?" His mother asked with a stern expression but there was also a concern visible in her eyes.

"...I mean, isn't it normal that I will get a few bruises while playing soccer?" Yuichi asked, he was ready to say what he has been doing the entire time but he definitely doesn't want to do that when his father is not around, he will have to wait till the evening.

"Yes it is completely normal that you have a few bruises on your legs but why do you have bruises also on your hands and upper body? Don't tell me you are getting into fights!" His mother placed both of her hands on her hips while wearing an apron and asked with narrowed eyes in suspicion.

'Shit! What should I say?!' Yuichi looked completely normal on the outside, smiling at his mother however, inside he was sweating like a pig.

"You know, I and a few more guys from school were trying out a new game similar to American football...It's nothing serious..." Yuichi quickly came up with something.

"American football? Aren't you kids a bit too small to play something violent as that? Just make sure that no one gets hurt otherwise I will have a talk with your friends' parents." She said with a frown but seeing the visible disappointment in Yuichi's face, she decided to let him be for now.

"Don't worry, we have a professional, looking over us!" Yuichi nodded a few times to acknowledge his mother's words.

"Alright, alright, you can go now, don't let me stop you. And be careful!" His mother ruffled his hair before letting him go with a big smile.

'Shit! Shit! Shit! What am I going to do?! I lied once again...I can't just come to the dinner today and say "I have been lying a few times and I have been practicing martial arts from that old man who sometimes cooks next door"' Yuichi thought with a depressed expression while holding his head during the ride on the bus.

Yuichi thankfully had a "foolproof" strategy where he was always training under the old man and then he even went to play with other kids to have some alibi and some other days he even spent most of the day with the kids and then he went to train for only an hour or so. Although his friends started to question where he was going so early, he always replied that he has to go home early to study. Therefore...it wasn't exactly foolproof but no lie is foolproof.

"Left leg!" The old man said and hit Yuichi into his left leg with a shinai before he was able to dodge.

"ouch!" Yuichi groaned but before he was able to even rub the spot he heard the old man shout once again.

"Midsection!" The old man said and struck the shinai towards Yuichi's stomach.

'You are kidding!' Yuichi thought with his heart pumping like crazy when he dodged that attack by stepping to the side. However, he had no time to recover.

"Right shoulder!"

*bam*

"Ouch!" Yuichi groaned and lost balance before falling on his ass. He then raised his head at the old man while rubbing his right shoulder.

"Don't even think about this being hard because I have a weapon and you don't...You get to know where I strike before I even move so no complaining, you can complain after you will have to dodge those without me saying anything." The old man said with a sly smile before sitting down on the floor opposite to Yuichi.

"So, what about your parents?" The old man asked with closed eyes.

"...I haven't told them yet...I intended to do that today at the dinner when dad will be there too but I kinda had to lie today once again so I don't imagine them taking it so well, especially mom." Yuichi said while looking down at the wooden floor, touching it with his index finger, doing circles with an absentminded expression.

"You have to stand up against your demons." The old man said with a serious tone.

"Huh? Demons...?" Yuichi raised his head and asked with a confused expression.

"Phaha, I guess it sounds wrong when it involves your parents but they are the only ones that are slowing down your progress. To be able to progress even faster you have to get rid of all things that trouble you. Try to imagine how would you feel if your parents knew what you are doing and they would let you do that." The old man laughed a bit, opening his eyes before explaining with a faint smile.

"I guess I wouldn't feel so...shackled like right now...? I indeed feel like not myself, being here knowing that my parents think that I am playing outside with other kids. Why are we even discussing such things?" Yuichi admitted before asking with a confused expression.

"You are still a little kid so I won't be teaching you just how to fight. I want you to have some general knowledge about how the outside world works. Just knowing how to fight will get you nowhere unless you are superhuman. You will have to abide by society's rules and convictions. Do you know why you attend school?" The old man explained and asked another question with a curious expression.

"To learn what I don't want to do in life?" Yuichi replied with an uncertain tone while tilting his head to the side.

"?! Haha, an interesting answer to hear from, how old are you again? 9 years old?" The old man was a bit surprised by his answer before he just started laughing.

Yuichi nodded his head to his question to confirm his age.

"Anyway, before you go home for today, I still have a question for you after hearing that interesting answer. What do you think of yourself? How do you view yourself?" The old man asked with anticipation visible in his face.

'Eeeh? Isn't he going to tell me how was my previous answer?' Yuichi thought, a bit dissatisfied but he was already accustomed to this old man's weird demands. However, the question the old man asked this time truly caught Yuichi off guard.

"Um, I think that I am...competitive?" Yuichi replied before thinking what more to say.

"Hmm, I see. You can go now, Yuichi." The old man said while waving his hand at Yuichi.

"Eh? A-Alright, thanks for today, Shishō!" Yuichi bowed down and left the old house, going towards the bus stop.

'I expected too much from him, after all, he is just 9 years old...It must have been his previous answer that got me ahead of myself.' The old thought while rubbing his chin and looking out of the window.

When Yuichi returned home, he greeted his mother and father, and while he was eating his dinner, he was hesitating whether he should tell his parents or not.

"Mom, dad, I want to tell you-" Yuichi suddenly just blurted out while sitting at the table but he was interrupted by his mother.

"Yu-chan, we are supposed to have new neighbors, they should arrive here tomorrow so I would appreciate it if you could go outside to buy some flowers as a gift. Your father just came back from the work and I am too busy with cooking for tomorrow, can you do that for me after you are done eating your dinner?" His mother asked with a gentle smile.

"Ah-...Yes, mom" Yuichi replied with a bit down expression.

"Hm? What is wrong, Yuichi? Ah, you wanted to say something to us, right? Sorry for interrupting you like that." His mother immediately noticed his expression so she asked what is wrong.

"A- It was nothing...I just wanted to say that...that I love you both very much!" Yuichi said with an awkward smile.

'Did she have to interrupt me right at the moment when I was ready to tell them? I will tell them after the matter with a new neighbor will be solved.' Yuichi thought, resenting his mother a bit for interrupting him.

"We love you too, Yu-chan!" His mother replied with a big smile while hugging his head.

His father on the other hand just gently smiled at him, giving him a weird feeling.

'What's up with that smile and look in his eyes? There is no way he suspects anything, right?' Yuichi thought, feeling something bad.
