Capítulo 409: Don't Back Down! Yielya's Trial!

Yielya rubbed her forehead. It seemed like her Trial might be troublesome.

A set of heavily armored soldiers stood in order. One, who seemed to be the captain of the group shouted, "Awaiting orders!"

"What's the situation?", Yielya wasted no time.

"Currently we are the last standing squadron. Our enemies are breaching past our defenses and will arrive in five minutes!"

"What are your orders?"

"We are to hold the enemy forces for as long as possible!"

Yielya could sense it. The sense of dread lingering around the squadron. They realized it, they were left as last ditch sacrifices. She continued to ask, "What are the enemy forces like?"

"We are outnumbered greatly. Their exact number of forces is unknown, the only person who knew that has long since retreated."

It became much clearer of what this Trial was. She was supposed to command a small team to last as long as possible against an impossible opponent. Everything she had was on the lower side of things. Low morale, numbers, weapons, just about everything she needed.

The only thing that granted her hope was their current location. It was a church by the looks of things. A decent sized door was barricaded at the front, although it shook occasionally as they tried to break through. Yielya devised a plan as she continued to ask, "What about the other exits?"

"The side door has been blocked by a collapse of rubble and ash. The secret exit has been locked and we are to guard it!"

"So their only option is the front door?"

"Yes!"

A faint smile spread across Yielya's lips. It seemed like the church was quite old, for it lacked windows of any sort. It seemed like the near impossible Trial wasn't unforgiving. Rather it was simply challenging. With three minutes left until they breached Yielya was placing together the last bit of her plan. However the first thing she needed to do was restore a bit of morale.

Tapping her staff against the ground she boasted, "Men, I have good news. Things are as not as bleak as they seem! Tell me, what is our mission?"

"To block the intruders!", they shouted in unison.

"What are we blocking them from?"

"From the escape route!"

"Nay! Tell me, who is through that route?"

"The civilians!"

"Correct! The people we swore to protect! Our families and friends lay just through that route! Are we going to give up here and let them be slaughtered?"

"No!"

"We are their last hope! We are their final option! Will we fail in our mission?!"

"No!"

"Then follow my orders! I swear upon the power gifted to me by the Gods I shall get you through this! Let our enemy see the might of those with no other options! So tell me, what will we do?!"

"Fight!"

"Good! Now let's begin!"

Morale improved slightly, but Yielya knew the only thing more effective than words was results. If everything went as she planned she will give them a glimmer of hope. To people who accepted their deaths, it would be enough for them to fight. Fight with everything they had.

It was said you must always give your opponent a method of escape. Whether it be through giving them a chance to surrender or a path of retreat. The moment you give them no hope is the moment you will face the fiercest enemy you ever will. For nothing is more terrifying than an opponent with nothing to lose!

Two minutes and thirty seconds until breach! Yielya used her War Sight to move the pews into position. With the help of the soldiers a rough barricade was formed. This wasn't nearly enough to prevent the enemy from progressing, but would be enough to prevent them from fully invading the church. Yielya then positioned the guards at specific places, "Your goal is simple! Stab at anything that dares to approach! Every body you create will make your job much easier! Create a wall of corpses, and let them fear approaching it!"

"Yes!"

"That's Yes Commander to you!"

"Yes Commander!"

"If your spear breaks, use your sword! If your sword dulls, use the enemies' weapons! No matter what do not stop fighting! The moment you falter is the moment your families are put at risk!"

"Yes Commander!"

"Will you fall?!"

"No Commander!"

"Will you fight?!"

"Yes Commander!"

"Then prove it to me!"

BOOM-!

The doorway broke apart as the enemy began to flood in. A war cry filled the church as the enemy forces began to climb the barricade. Their path was met by a series of spears and a set of determined soldiers. The first to enter were the first to fall. But with numbers on their side the enemy did not lack bravery.

Wood splintered as the enemy forces began to tear down the pews. Blood splattered and began to pool at the bottom, making their feet slip. Yielya narrowed her eyes, this was also part of her plan. For the barricade of pews was more like a hill, she intentionally made paths up it for this specific reason. As more soldiers began to fall the blood would wet the wood, making it harder for the enemy to climb.

Two minutes into battle one of Yielya's soldiers became injured. Although normally she wouldn't heal such a wound, this squadron was not her party. Any injury they sustained would effect their performance. A drop on any of their performance was detrimental to her goal. So with a gentle swing of her new staff the wound rapidly healed, "Do not get injured again! I cannot heal your wounds always!"

"Yes Commander!"

As the bodies kept piling up Yielya found a lack of determination in the enemy soldiers eyes. She just needed a little longer!

More and more bodies piled up. The enemy forced to stumble as they climbed over the corpses of their fellow fighters. A horrific sight that would sicken many. But this only fueled Yielya's squadron. It seemed like the results made their morale skyrocket, as it began to look very likely that they would succeed their mission.

Yielya also found her chance to give it a final boost, "Your enemies' eyes! They hold fear within them. Let it be known that the fear isn't what would happen if they disobeyed orders. Nay, rather it is you they fear! They fear having to take on the soldiers who made many fall! A lone seven soldiers who stands within their way! Show them why they fear you!"

"Yes Commander!"

Although her words could be considered corny, it served its purpose. For in the heat of the moment it spurred the squadron's morale to its peak.

Their weapons shattered and bent, yet the squadron merely picked up a nearby weapon and kept fighting. Yielya utilized her War Sight to bring some of the better conditioned weapons closer, swapping them with the broken ones. Occasionally healing their wounds she too began to see the chance of clearing the Trial.

A Priest was the best position for a commander to be in of a small group. Tanks such as Defenders needed to focus on the enemy to block properly. With attackers needing to focus for any openings to deal a lot of damage. A Priest needed to keep an eye on everyone. Being the farthest away from the fight also meant they were given the best eye on the battlefield.

This was why Yielya was set as the second in command to the Party! Her eye when it came to studying the battlefield was second to none in their Party! When she was needed they would fully trust Yielya's command!

Two hours passed as the squadron continued to fight. Morale and adrenaline can only go so far, exhaustion continued to overtake them, but the pile of corpses continued to reduce the level they had to face.

They just needed a final burst! Any signs of exhaustion would give the enemy ideas of a chance. Tapping her Staff she released a small burst of Holy Energy. This refreshed a bit of their exhaustion, "Do not falter! Look how far you have come! The enemy is hesitating! Push every last ounce of energy through your body!"

"Yes Commander!"

They fought as they were told. Pushing themselves beyond their limit. Six hours into the battle a horn blared and the enemy began to retreat. The squadron hesitated for a moment, and then the exhaustion hit them all at once. They collapsed onto the ground, breathing heavily.

Yielya transported them to a cleaner and safer area, "Well done men, we made it."

"Did we really do it Commander? Is it finally over?"

"See for yourself.

Bang!

A set of armored individuals walked through a secret path, "There's no chance they're alive. But we have to at least collect their corpses!"

As they walked into the main part of the church they all paused. One had their mouth agape, "By the Gods what happened in here?"

Yielya looked towards them, "You're late."

More soldiers poured through the main entrance, and became stunned by the sight. As they struggled to climb over the shattered pews stained by blood they murmured among themselves. A finely dressed soldier approached Yielya, "I am Captain Tear, what did you all do?"

"Our mission, we prevented the enemy from breaching the hidden escape route."

"You mean to tell me all of this was by your hand?"

"I hardly did anything. You would have to turn your attention to these seven heroes."

Captain Tear grinned, "Men, you did a job worthy of the Gods recognition. I swear upon my name you will get recognition for your efforts! You all managed to turn the tide to this war!"

The newly arrived soldiers gathered around the squadron. Awe and praises flowing about them. The squadron accepted them weakly. Captain Tear shook his head, "Would you lot leave them alone?! They've fought harder than you can imagine!"

"Sorry Captain!"

Captain Tear turned to Yielya, "You, are you a Priest of this church? I come here often and I have never seen you before."

"Let's just say the Gods favored your side, I am merely a messenger."

"Regardless of who you are I am positive it is thanks to you they still manage to stand. For that I will be sure the church hears of your deeds."

"No need."

"If you reconsider please reach out to me."

"More importantly, is everyone safe?"

"Yes, thanks to your efforts the civilians all escaped safely. Moreover we managed to surround the enemy forces due to their concentration of breaking into the church. This battle is as good as won for our side."

"That is good to hear."

Closing her eyes Yielya heard a faint voice echo, "Trial completed."

With a small smile Yielya responded, "Naturally."
