Capítulo 168: Jarvis’ Sacrifice

Wrock nearly laughed at his own weakness.

His stats were lower than what he had when he started! His body could barely support itself, however he didn't regret the choice. This should have saved his party. The permanent loss of stats could be regained. After three days he would recover.

Wrock then heard coughing. Immediately his heart dropped. From the rubble a figure stood up. Clothes tattered, dust covering their skin. However seemingly unharmed. It was Rygeth.

Rygeth then spoke, "The time limit for such an ability is indeed short. Had I not been immortal then I would have died from that."

Wrock sighed, "You're immortal. . . haha wish I knew that."

Rygeth dusted himself off, "Indeed, that final blow of yours caused me a lot of pain. However it seems like you mortals have finally ran out of time. I must admit, you're a tenacious bunch. Had I not been weakened. . . your lives would have ended long ago. So this time, I shall finish you all off."

Wrock apologized to the party, "Sorry y'all, it looks like I couldn't succeed."

Kan'na shook her head, "You're not to blame Wrock, we all couldn't."

Jarvis clenched his jaw, he especially was unable to help. His tames were his greatest strength, yet his greatest weakness. All of his tames were his level. None were higher.

A thought struck him. He quickly flipped through the pages of his book. He then found the page he was searching for. The World Carrying Tortoise. Even he was unsure of its strength, he couldn't believe that he managed to tame it in the first place!

He played a gentle tune and the Tortoise appeared in front of him. They looked at each other, "I need your help, anything."

The Tortoise remained silent for a moment. Jarvis however understood, "I see, that's my only option."

Looking at his party he steeled himself, "Very well, I accept your terms."

A notification appeared:

<[World Carrying Tortoise] wishes to leave your control! Warning: Once a tame leaves The Book of Life, it cannot return. Confirm?>

Jarvis hesitated for only a moment before pressing confirm. A light surrounded the Tortoise before fading. There stood a tall and handsome man, dressed in a green steampunk tailcoat, with pants and shoes to match. A pair of black gloves were on their hands. Their hair was messy and colored black with green highlights. The most odd feature of the individual was their iris, it was shaped into a diamond. Several shades of green fulfilled its colors, like a field of plant life.

The figure looked down at Jarvis, "I must thank you, your book has assisted me into a new realm. I shall repay my debts here, after that we will part ways."

Jarvis nodded and the figure made a slight nod in return.

The World Carrying Tortoise only agreed to be Jarvis' tame for its own benefit. The Book of Life had a hidden quality of unlocking the limits of tames within it. The Tortoise realized that they could use the book to finally increase their strength after a century of stagnation. This was why they wished to not be named. Any tame named by the book would be forever bound to it. Unable to leave its clutches. Yet despite this, the Tortoise felt guilty. So it took this opportunity to repay what was owed and leave.

Rygeth had finished repairing his clothes and began walking over Wrock, "Farewell mortal."

"Hold it."

Rygeth was annoyed and turned to the voice. However upon seeing the figure their expression turned serious, "You, who are you?!"

The Tortoise did not answer the question, "You are not to harm them any further."

Rygeth sneered, "You think you can stop me?"

A rune appeared at Rygeth's palm and they pointed it at Wrock. The moment they did they were sent flying into a boulder the Tortoise held out a palm, "That shall be your only warning."

Rygeth broke free from the boulder and stared at the Tortoise hatefully, "You're messing with the Crimson Immortals! Do you have any idea what you're messing with?!"

"I am well aware, that is why I am not ending your so called immortality here. I shall let you leave, however I will get violent if you insist on hurting these people."

Rygeth clenched his jaw, ". . . Fine! Then I invoke the Trial of Revenge!"

Several runes appeared and formed a shape. This shape then shattered. Rygeth announced, "Five months from now these individuals shall meet me here! By then I will regain my power and kill them all! If they fail to arrive, then they shall die a thousand times!"

Rygeth then vanished, causing the party to sigh in relief. The Tortoise then informed them, "They invoked the ancient Trials. A mysterious individual powers these Trials, if you fail to appear then you shall quite literally die a thousand times. The good news is that none of the Crimson Immortals will attack you during these five months, they abide the rules of the Trials. It's the only thing keeping them orderly. I shall take my leave here, what you all do during these five months is none of my concern."

The Tortoise then vanished. Wrock then collapsed onto his back, "We have to get stronger again?! How many training montages do we have to go through?"

"That's essentially what happened.", Yielya finished explaining.

Akiol was relieved, "So everyone's okay."

Yielya nodded, "Mhm! Except for me probably, pretty sure my account was deleted."

"Is that so? Well we shouldn't have to worry. Someone should be coming here soon."

As soon as Akiol finished saying so a knock on the door. A nurse opened it and asked, "Some fine gentlemen who come from the developing team of A World's Legacy wish to speak to you. Is it fine to let them in?"

Akiol nodded, "Not an issue, bring them in."

The nurse nodded and continued, "Once you're done speaking we will have the doctor check up on you to make sure your free to go then."

A few minutes later two men in suits walked in. They gestured to a chair, "Mind if we sit?"

"Go ahead."

The two sat down, as they did Yielya moved over to the opposite side of them. One of the suited men began to speak, "First of all, we sincerely apologize for the experience you had with the game. It is truly our fault that such a bug happened. As a portion to make up for this, we have taken personal action from the situation you found yourself in. Your character is not deleted, however we cannot further explain upon what is happening with your character once you log back in. Secondly, we ask if there is anything we can do to make up for such an inconvenience."

Akiol held up three fingers, "I want three things, if you can do those then I shall consider this whole situation swept under the rug."

The two looked at each other before one spoke, "Please do say, if it's within our capabilities we shall do so."

Akiol pointed at Yielya, "First, my friend here had forcefully logged out to assure my safety. However upon doing so her account has been deleted. Surely there is a rollback, or something so her progress isn't wasted?"

"That is simple, consider it done."

"Brilliant, secondly I wish to speak with someone who is well versed in the game. I have some questions I wish to ask."

One of them hesitated before answering, "There may be some questions we cannot answer, but it can be done."

Akiol nodded happily, "Good, for my final request. I shall keep that hidden until my requests are fulfilled. Once all three are fulfilled this whole situation shall be something of the past. I can even sign a written agreement if you want."

The two suited men nodded and one stood up, "Then we shall make plans. Give us a call here and we shall contact you when your requests are done. We shall no longer take your time. Thank you."

The two left and Akiol sighed, "So troublesome."

Yielya asked, "What is? I think you handled that relatively smoothly."

"That's because they were off guard. Why do you think they came so early after I awoke?"

"To keep you silent as soon as possible?"

"The way you worded that is scary. But partially yes. They hoped I wouldn't be clear headed, someone awaking after three days of sleep wouldn't be as alert. Perhaps prone to a bit of convincing."

Yielya understood now, "So they would have attempted to persuade you that it wasn't that big of a deal?"

"Exactly, their sweet honey words in the beginning was to lower my guard. With a bit more sweet talking I am sure they thought they could easily handle this situation. However two things threw them off. First, you being here. With another person their whole plan was thrown off immediately. Secondly, how alert and conscious I am. I was extremely straightforward, with these two they were forced to agree with my demands. However even I couldn't push it to far."

Yielya made a face, "So you handled it smoothly."

"Quite so."

"So why is it troublesome?"

". . ."
