Capítulo 10: GETTING MY WAND
My Lawyer came today morning after which we went to Mr. Smith's office. We concluded the agreement and I gave him he recipe of products with manufacturing process.
I also assured him that even if some people were to know about recipe without manufacturing process it would not be successful .Even 'someone' did manage to produce we can sue them for illegal production.
We talked about some things and how to proceed with things.I gave him list of employees I want in main factory and we discussed how much to pay them. These people were among the unemployed muggleborns which were discriminated against in there workplace and fired. They had decent skills and basic knowledge so I offered them these jobs. Well first they thought I was pranking them.But I showed them my products and how I will be opening a shop.I also gave them sample to try.
They were hesitant at first to try unpopular potion but some them did and those are the ones I hired. As they were willing to take chances and trust me at some level. .I told Mr. Smith to once meet them . I also told him that as I will be attending school from 11 year old so in my place my lawyer would attend meetings except major ones.
We also talked about general things.
Me: "Are there any places which are magical shopping district. I would like to shop for soveuiners."
Mr. Smith : "Oh there is in one New York. In all of America,Chicago,San Fransico have major magical shopping district. There also many places where some shady deals happen but those are mostly hidden or remote places. MACUSA is pretty serious on avoiding things like these."
Me: "oh,I wanted ask you is it true that underage 11 year old kids can buy wands legally?"
Mr. Smith: "That is true."
Me: "Hmm I would like to buy a custom wand. Is there a particular wandmaker you suggest?"
After that he became silent for a moment.
Mr. Smith: " There is some one. He is a son of famous wandmaker but his skills are also quite good.Also wands made by him are quite famous as they are aesthetically pleasing and produce spells of force and elegance. His name is Alssenandro Quintana.His father wands once took magical by suprise ."
Me: "Why? What was so special about them ?"
Mr.Smith: "you will see when you meet him"
After some time we left his office which was very big and well decorated. Then my lawyer bid me good bye and I went to my hotel. After having lunch with my family, we visited magical shopping area.
We bought many things and souvenirs,tasted some dishes. We had fun.I also decide to splurge a little since I got the prize money.I bought gifts for my family.
After having some fun,I with my father went to address of wandmaker given to me by Mr. Smith.
I saw a shop with name "Quintana's Wandmaker". We went in.
MR. Quintana: " Ah!!welcome customer,How can I help you?"
Me: "Hello I am Gilderoy Lockhart. I would like to buy a custom wand."
Mr . Quintana, was quite shocked hearing this. The man infront looked like he was quite young barely in 30-40s considering wizards live till 150 if no unfortunate accident is met and look relatively young due to channelling magic.
I came to this conclusion in studies. I was actually shocked too when I read it in book of history.I asked my parents about it,they said they do create them but it is usually expensive and also it needs to be done before you start actually magic casting as you use particular wand, it gets tuned to your magic.
But it is usually not done and practise is followed by some families.
Mr. Quintana : "Oh it is rare for some one to ask for making one of those"
Me: "yes I would also like to ask what more could be added into wand?"
Mr. Quintana : "Well some designs could be added you could also get a grip fixed on wand.."
Me: "When I said 'more' I meant more practical than rather than decoration"
Mr. Quintana: "Well...you could make blood bond with wand so it will be loyal only to you."
I thought 'this perfect'
Me : "I will like to have blood bond with wand the. Any other options?"
Mr. Quintana: "No. Though the this wand creation will be quite expensive."
Me : "I assure you money is not a problem."
Mr. Quintana : "Then shall we start ?"
We went to back of shop. He opened door which led to basement. When we entered i was quite surprised because basement space was quite big.
We went to a wall where whole wall had shelves with boxes with there ingredients name on it.
Mr. Quintana : "Now Mr.Lockhart I would like you to close your eyes and spread the magic around you and focus on those you feel resonating with you.Well if you are un able to do that you can walk from left to right of shelf and choose the boxes."
I stayed on place and immediately started to spread my magic.This also one of the effects you can say that of wandless magic. Easier activation .At first I had to close eyes and focus but after some time practising I can evoke magic really fast.
This literally spread you your magic around you it also can be felt by someone in your vicinity.I have theory that Dumbledore I also use this kind of tricks to make feel warm by making his magic pass his intent to person.
But its so subtle and his control of magic is very good that the person even finds that magic is influencing him.
While I was doing this suddenly there were 3 boxes on shelf that started shaking.I looked at Mr. Quintana who was looking at me a very funny expression. Guess it really made him surprised to see my skills. I look at my father who met my gaze and smiled. Huh seems like he got used to my abilities.
It was to fun watch there faces when I casted magic.
Me: "So Mr. Quintana whats next?"
Mr. Quintana : "*coughs* Yes you see the boxes here are ingredients which are used in wand making. The boxes that shook are the ones which resonates the most with your magic. Now usually people resonates with two ingredients, wand wood and wand core. But you resonated with three of them.."
HE goes to the wall brings the boxes which shook and says
Mr.Q : "Not any three most powerful ones. You chose elder wood and white spine of White River Monsters of Arkansas. Elder wood is strongest wand wood.Wands made of these are powerful and wizard that use this wand are very talented ones. But this wand is picky in choosing its owner. There is lore of wand made by three brothers who cheated death and made deathly hallows. One of deathly hallows said to be a wand made of elder wood and core of thestral hair. It is said to be strongest wand but is just myth as wand with that combination is not stable."
"Then is spine of white river.Wands made by it are quite 'all rounder'.They not only amplify magic but channelling becomes quite fast and spell casting.It is speciality of Quintana wand maker. My father first found method to make wand from this ingredient. But due to his concern about the overhunting of white river monster he did not share the method to lure the monster and wand crafting.
Well it is one of ingredients that can do the work of wand wood and wan core alone but is still used with a core for additional amplification.Oh right you wont know what I am talking about ?You see the wand is made of wand wood and wand core to cast magic. But if one just wants to channel magic then just a wand wood would suffice. Wand core is added to amplify magic so even if input is low ,output is higher.
Now you chose dragon heartstring as your core which is another powerful ingredient.It has amplification of great magnitude but you would need to be careful with this wand as you would need good control over magic to use them.Mr. lockhart I must be honest with you this wand is by far strongest yet complex wand I would make so I am also not quite sure of outcome.Are sure you want me make the wand?"
Me: "I trust you Mr.Quintana. Please go ahead with process"
He sighed but I saw excitement in his eyes.It must be true that wandmaker really want to make challenging wand.
Mr.Q went to a platform where a something was inscribed on it.I went to look at it.It was ritual circle!.Actually as per canon , rituals are not completely banned. There are permission for studying rituals to enchanter,cursebreaker,auror,wandmakers(learned just now seeing ).
Rituals which are harmful to others or require sacrifice are the ones ban and abhorred upon .Other than it is allowed for wizards to study and practise rituals. Ofcourse blood magic is also included in this but it has heavy restriction.This is all I got from my questioning of my father and teacher(moody)
He kept the ingredients in circle and started waving.Magic started moving into circle and ritual cicle started to glow .The ingeredients in circle started levitating and glowed for minute then they came together and started to fuse.And became a globe of light.
It stayed like that for 5 whole minutes then light dimmed and what was in middle was beautiful wand.Whole time my eyes were glued to scene. It was so beautiful.It again made me question extent of magic. Never would have expected wands were made this way.But how can tools used to wield magic be made using mundane ways.
I looked towards to Mr. Q. He was sweating profusely.I asked him if he was okay.He said it was fine. Afterward he asked me for bit of blood.I asked him how much.He conjured a bowl and told me to fill it up.I was quite stunned at first and looked towards my dad his looks saying 'It is alright'
I cut my wrist which was quite painful and filled the bowl.After which he gave me blood replenishing potion to drink.He then brought the cauldron and started brewing potion.
I looked at ingredients he used but I could not identify the potion.Seeing me curious he said it was one of the potions passed down by his father.
Usually method of blood bonding is quite a secret process and is usually passed from generation to generation. His father luckily acquired the recipe from his master who he was apprenticing from.
After brewing the potions he submerged the wand in the potion after which he started waving his wand again. The potion started to dry up and only the wand was remaining.Suddenly I felt some sort of connection between the wand and me.i told Mr.Q about it.
He said it means that the ritual was success at gave me my wand.
When I took hold of wand. It was like it was part of me my magic resonated with it. I felt...complete.
Mr.Q: "Come on then!try it out"
He was clearly excited to see the product he made.
I tried [water making charm 'Aguamenti'].It was out of my expectation.I used same amount of magic I used to when practising magic earlier but the power of outcome was quite greater than when using my grandpa's wand.It was not too great a difference.it was like tap with steady water coming out and tap which was pouring water at full force.
Only power increased by a little factor.But still it is quite efficient since you can use same power of spell using less magic using wands than wandless magic. But it makes it quite difficult to make progress with increasing your magic capcity and channelling power of yourself.
I also inspected the wand.It was smooth woody colour with white like spiral as design going across it from handle to tip.It was quite simple yet elegant wand.I was satisfied with it.
Mr.Q broke me out of my thoughts.
"There you go 13"Elder wood wand, Dragon Heartstring and spine of white river monster .I also am grateful to you for giving me chance to me craft the one of finest wands.I hope you don't misuse it.I think I would be seeing great things from you,Mr.Lockhart."
Me: "Thank you, Mr .Quintana. How much for wand now?"
Mr. Q : "that will be 200 galleons including blood bonding,ingredients and custom crafting."
I give him money and we leave after shaking hands with Mr.Q.
We reach at the hotel and have dinner.'Before going to sleep I caress my wand and go to sleep smiling...
