Heaven's door parted ways for me, though the stormy look of the clouds surrounding the Gate on the other side of the bridge gave me all the information I needed. While Saint Peter nodded with the kind of compassionate gravity I'd thought I could expect from Angels, when I passed through the curving, golden gateway and into the meadow on the other side with Adam still holding my hand, I was met with a marching line of approaching warriors that seemed determined to bring a battle to me if I liked it or not.
I didn't slow my own pace, pushing forward and upward into Chaos while Adam did the same beside me. I longed to glance his way and take in his altered appearance. I had, as yet, to see what he looked like when he took on his persona. But I had to focus and stealing a glance could very well be my undoing. The last thing I needed was for Gabriel or Michael or Samael to see me stumble because I was ogling my (boy)friend.
