I do my best to focus at work, but even the new employee, Martha, has noticed my absent mind. I keep reliving what happened two nights ago and my mind is playing tricks over and over again. He said he had an emergency at work, and even though I thought he was just running away, he kissed me. And I’ll be damned but that wasn’t a ‘sorry’ kiss; I would have felt it otherwise.
My phone buzzes a few times and I grunt at it. All morning I had been receiving calls from several departments to check on the new employee policy being implemented, and even after I wrote a detailed email to all in the company explaining how it would affect them, they still call for the same information. So I have decided to ignore every other call.
I know, I shouldn’t be ignoring them. It is my job after all. But I have become very impatient the last two days.
A knock on the door pulls me out of my thoughts. “Yes?” I answer in a monotone voice.
