Capítulo 14: Whispers and Voices

At the sight of her in this state my mind froze, feelings of failure and despair filling my mind, I had failed to protect her, and now my first companion in this life was too far gone, only death would bring release from the madness, only it could grant her freedom...

Soon I found myself with a sword in hand, her neck extended before me, ready to be cut.

I put up the sword, ready to swing, but strength soon left my arms, and I still found myself hoping to find a solution to her madness, to bring her back to her curious, kind and determined self... As I hesitated I found facing myself, in the surface of a foul black lake that reflected my image, in that image I had four eyes, with a tendril coming out of my shoulder.

That image told me "I saved her, we saved her, she dosent feel pain, she is free, and soon so will you be free"

------

I awoke from the nightmare, I could not help but look around in search for Selia, becoming relieved as soon as I saw her staring at me with curiosity.

'It was just a dream, you can't let those bastards control you Theo, be strong for you both!'

I soon realized that most of the pain I had already grown accostumed to was no longer present, even breathing felt a lot more comfortable.

As soon as I got out of bed I heard a voice coming through the walls "I already got you a teacher, he will teach you the basics, take the clothes I left at the bedside and take a more weak and meek form, he is expecting novices and I don't want to explain how or why I sent him to teach powerful adults."

Getting into the form of a tan adolescent with a thin body, I changed into my new clothes only to find the sight before me and laughing hard at Selia.

She became a elven child the same as her adult form but much more childish and innocent, but with so large a hair that she tripped on it and remained with a pout and glare as soon as she heard my laugh.

Knowing best to stop my laugh, I turned my head away while still keeping a smile plastered on my face by her antics.

Soon we arrived at the front of the tower of our new teacher by teleportation, a common method of travel to those with status in Dalaran.

The name of their teacher was Auron Brightflame, he was already grizzled and old, even for a mage's standard, he was one of the supporting mages in the First and Second War which didn't go to the battlefield, but instead would teach apprentices and battle mages for the war effort.

"Come in young ones, try not to trip on my things on your own up will ya? I didn't have time to clean up before that intimidating fella forced you both unto me..." said a voice that sounded aged and tired.

As soon as we entered through the door even I was shocked at the first floor room, it was like a magic disaster had happened in this place, there were books floating everywhere, the tables and chair were chasing each other while hopping around, and the floor tiles would some times start tilting and snap back into position.

'How can someone live in such a place?! Only a true mage I'm afraid...' Theo was sure not sure if he should be happy or worried of apprenticing under such a magic "trigger happy" individual.

But Selia was looking beyond excited and curious at these things, she wondered if being a mage could be so fun as well.

After being careful to not be given a concussion by flying books, tripped by the floor or being kidnapped by furniture they soon arrived at the second floor were Auron expected them.

He was sitting on a chair with a slight smile that denoted approval at his apparently very composed students 'It was not many that still kept their courage at such age.' he thought, unaware of his new apprentices real identities.

"Good, you came here without even batting an eye at the mess, I am sure you will make great mages!" He said with great confidence of someone who taught many before.

"Take your things to the floor above, and then we shall start our first class on the fifth floor, you can't afford to lose time at your age! It's the best time to learn, the older you get the more your brain starts to rot and harden."

Doing just that and finding each a room, me and Selia came before our teacher with eager expressions, me because I would finnaly see if what I understood from the game could be counted when it came to theory crafting and Selia because she wanted to have fun just like what she saw bellow.

"Hmmm, eager are we? Know that while enthusiasm is a good thing, it does not mean you can cut corners and take shortcuts... magic is learned step by step, for example, one needs to learn to stir their mana before how to mold it, and how to mold it, before using incantations to empower it, and only after incantations can you release a atleast decent spell. Sure you can release lesser spells and try to annoy your opponent with quick and simple spells, but that would make you little more than a magical mosquito don't you think?" He said exposing his wisdom as an educator, watching carefully on how they reacted as he casted each step he told them slowly for them to watch.

And so their classes on magic started, and so did the theories that Theo had start to being more realistic than those in the game he was familiar with.

Mana is the universal energy of all matter and reality, using it you can affect the elements, nature, space and time, it was without attribute and ready to be molded into something new. Every living being had mana, only that alot of them didn't know how to utilize it, much less how to nurture their reserves.

Even the world itself had mana he argued, ley lines being the blood vessels of the land, and having a deep impact on their surroundings, making the land lush or rich in minerals if there were a good amount of them.

Making use of mana was just the very start of using magic, to be able to wield a spell you had to turn it into a magic circle, only when able to make a refined format it could be wielded with finesse that a mage required, having incantations to add effects such as amplify the effect or give more flexibility to it.

And thus our journey to learn more about the world we lived in and the secrets of magic started.
