If I wanted to learn the language and it seemed like I had to read the meaning and intentions behind their words. Even though it would certainly be uncomfortable I had to use telepathy on the guards, otherwise I would never learn the language.
The reaches of my mind expanding, first the joy overflowing. Then my body started feeling... different. My body started feeling cold, my body started feeling sweaty and a nauseating feeling spread through my entire body. I felt vulnerable and small. The feeling cann't be conveyed with words alone.
The first guard said: "Did that monster realy survive multiple tier 4 and 5 spells unscathed?"
So I guess those robed guys are called mages.
The second guard responded: "I hadn't seen it myself, but it doesn't look hurt."
The third intervened: "It doesn't matter, we will soon be paid and then it's not gonna be our problem anymore."
The foruth didn't respond to their words and took a close look at me, and stopped thinking almost completely, with only a slight echoing remaining. He was most likely fully entranced by the sight of my scales appearance just as I was only shortly after my arrival.
The third guard: "Hey, don't fall asleep over there."
The fourth guard: "What?... sorry I was just-"
The second: "And get away from that cage."
The fourth: "It`s sleeping anyways."
The first: "It doesn't even look that dangerous for a dragon."
The second: "Only a fool underestimates a Dragon. Even young ones can be dangerous."
The third: "The others will soon come back with the money of the sale and then it won't be our problem anymore."
So they are selling me? Well, actually I expected as much but still. I think I should have felt a bit more uneasy at the thought of being sold than i did but I didn't pay to much mind to it since I could just leave any time I felt like it. I continue using telepathy for a while to gain more information and to understand the language a bit, despite my discomfort.
A while later one of the mages comes out of the building with someone else in tow. I honestly expected to at least fetch a high price. The person that came out of the building with the mage however, didn't look like a noble or a rich person in general.
The man that came out of the building looked surprisingly young for having a gray beard, he wore some kind of red leather armor and had a long sword over his back, whilst he held a scroll of paper or simmilar material.
The unknown man: "Is this it?"
Mage: "Yes, this is the beast we captured."
The unknown man: "And it as impervious to magic?" *sceptically*
Mage: "Yes, I can demonstrate if'd you like."
What? Hey, i'm not a punching bag you clown! At least I am starting to understand the language, so I shouldn't be in need of telepathy much longer.
The unknown man: "Please do."
I just look at him with a 'seriously?' expression but he clearly didn't notice or care.
He pointed a finger said one word but on his mind was a something with way more meaning than could be conveyed in one word. Since that thought only lasted a split second I couldn't see what it was. After that thought a lightning shot out from his finger towards me.
I don't quite know why but I wanted to show off a bit. I didn't want to show too much however. In the end I decided on a simple barrier around the entire cage which should be enough to stop an attack like this one. The lightning struck the barrier and swiftly dissipated.
The mage was a bit surprised as well, since he actually tried to show the resistance of my scales. As such the barrier came as a surprise to him as well.
The unknown man: "Well, it didn't get harmed by the spell. 4 Platinum coins you said, right?"
Mage: "Uh, y-yeah."
He clearly didn't expect anyone to actually agree such an outrageous price. Following that short exchange the man handed the mage a small pouch and aproached the cage, while the guards and the mage left into the building. The man was alone with me now.
The unknown man: "Now what exactly could you be."
Wouldn't you like to know?
I feel like I have learned enough of the language for now and end my telepathy. As I do so the uneasy feelings recede and I start feeling more comfortable again. I can always just start using telepathy again when it becomes necessary.
If you always know what somebody means when speaking you will learn a language pretty quickly... I think. I mean I never used telepathy before, so this is purely speculation.
