"Grandma?"
Emily walked out of her room, and directly in front of her sat her grandmother.
"Hello, dear. I was waiting for you...We need to talk about the funeral service."
"Ah, today's that day, huh?" She sat down next to her grandmother. The cold, iron bench that they sat on resembled one that Emily's grandfather once made.
"Unfortunately. Are you okay? To skip class I mean." She looked over at Emily. "I know how important your studies are. I jus-"
"Of course I'll come." Emily cut her off before she had the chance to cry. "Um...Why don't you just let me take my books inside, and grab a coat." It wasn't cold, or even brisk that day. Emily would just grab a jacket, sweater, you name it, whenever she felt uncomfortable.
"Sure. Thank you. Oh! make sure to call in sick." Her grandmother was never light about attendance, as she was once an educator herself.
"Yes, Grandma."
And so the day began.
