"Hey, are you alright?" A faint voice woke me up after I lost consciousness.
I slowly opened my eyes, and what I saw was not my bedroom, but instead a forest with weird-looking plants, tall patches of grass, and a purple-haired girl around my age poking my face.
"Oh good, you're awake. For a second there I thought you were dead." The girl breathed a sigh of relief.
It took me a while to come to my senses and understand what was going on. When I finally did, I was shocked and scared beyond belief.
"Where am I? How did I get here! What is this place!" I started screaming and flailing around as I kept asking myself if what I'm seeing is real.
"There's no need to panic, just calm down. Right now you're in Feilo Forest. I don't know how you got in here but I can get you out."
Telling me that I'm in a place called Feilo Forest isn't going to calm me down! Did I somehow teleport to another country or something?
"I'm not sure how you managed to get past the guard at the entrance, but you should get out of here quickly. I can show you a way to sneak past the guard."
How is any of this information supposed to help me? I'm in an unfamiliar place and telling me to sneak past a guard isn't helping me at all!
"What is this place? Where's my home?" The girl scratched her head, not knowing why I was acting this way. "As I said, you're in Feilo Forest, and I don't know where you live. I just found you laying here unconscious. How did you get here and pass out anyway? You didn't get drunk did you? You don't look old enough to start drinking."
I really need to get home. Everyone is going to be devastated when they find out that the person they were celebrating about suddenly went missing.
The girl was trying to figure out what my situation is and what I'm trying to say. "Do you remember how you got here? Maybe I can help you if I know where you're from."
I tried to recall what happened before I found myself in this place and blurted out the first thing that came into mind. "I fell into a portal in my bedroom and woke up here." After I realized what I just said, I thought she was going to think that I'm crazy. I should've just kept my mouth shut until I could come up with a proper response.
"You... fell into a portal and came here?" I was expecting her to either laugh at my response or call me crazy, or both, but instead, she actually seems like she knows what's going on. She might be able to help me.
"A-Are you from Earth?" The girl asked in a frightened tone, almost as if she was being threatened.
"Uhh, yes?" I was confused as to why she would ask me if I'm from Earth. Where else would I be from, Mars? Do I look like an alien? That portal didn't turn me into an alien did it? I hope not.
The girl suddenly backed away from me "You're one of them! You're one of those evil murderers from that world!" She screamed as she ran away from me.
Evil murderers from that world? I didn't do anything, how am I evil? Also, what does she mean by 'that world'. I fear that the worst has happened, but for now, I need to go after her. She may be the only way I can figure out what my situation was and I also needed an explanation about me being an evil murderer from that world.
I ran after her, but she was faster than me and I had no way to catch up to her. Skipping gym class has finally come back to bite me.
"Stay away from me! The people of your world have caused enough destruction to-" Something jumped out of a grass patch and bit her leg.
The girl screamed as she fell to the ground, looking at what was biting on her leg. It was a rat twice the size of an average one. It had long claws and teeth which it used to dig into the girl's leg.
The girl tried to grab the rat, but two more came and bit her arms. All three rats pinned her arms and leg to the ground while she struggled to get them away from her. Another rat came out of a grass patch in front of her and slowly approached her. She realized that the other 3 rats were trying to prevent her from moving so that the fourth one could finish her off.
I couldn't just let her die or else I might not be able to find my way out of this place. The moment the fourth rat lunged at her, I quickly moved in front of her to block the rat, who ended biting my arm.
Blood was dripping across my arm as I had to endure the rat sinking its long fangs into my arm. I kicked one of the rats who was pinning the girl's arm and pull the rat off my arm. It's alot stronger than a normal rat too. I had to use alot of strength to keep the rat from breaking free from my grip.
The girl used the arm which I freed to knock away the rat biting her other arm and grabbed the rat biting on her leg. She threw the rat onto the ground and furiously stomped it to death. I also did the same to the rat that bit my arm. One of the rats lunged at the girl again. She caught the rat before it reached her and pummeled it to death. The remaining rat knew it couldn't beat us so it fled.
"Why did you save me? You're planning to turn me into some sort of evil minion aren't you?"
I just saved you, couldn't you at least say thank you, or just not call me evil!
"I'm not evil! I don't even know what's going on, so please, explain to me what's happening and why you think I'm evil."
The girl glared at me with intense hatred. "I know what you and your people are like, you're all cunning and try to take advantage of everyone around you. Your tricks won't work on me!"
"Okay, just put yourself in my shoes for a second. How would you feel if you woke up in an unfamiliar place with no clue on what's going on and the person who you saved started calling you evil instead of helping you."
The girl thinks for a moment and stares at my wounds. She seemed hesitant to help me and remained silent.
"I'll give you a choice right now, you can ignore me and let an innocent boy die here, or you can help an innocent, I repeat, innocent boy by explaining to him what's going on."
The girl takes a deep breath before finally deciding to talk. "Fine, I'll tell you what's going on, but that doesn't mean I'll become your minion."
I'm starting to get the feeling that it's impossible to convince her that I'm not evil.
"You have been transported to another world. The world you are in right now is called Errale."
The moment she told me that I'm no longer on earth, my heart sank. Ever since I woke up, I've been trying to convince myself that I was still on earth and that I was simply in some other country like Australia. This can't be happening, how did it even happen.
My life on earth was great, and things were about to get alot better. I don't want to believe that this is real, but the pain on my arm is proof that this isn't a nightmare. Damn it, everything I had, everything I earned, and everyone I know is gone! Why did it have to be me?
"Are you okay?" The girl asked after seeing me clench my fist and grit my teeth all of a sudden. It looked like I was going to throw a tantrum. "I'm fine, continue."
"Okay... unlike your world, ours is filled with magic, which your world apparently doesn't have. It's probably for the best though. Those rats that we just fought off are called grus rats, a type of monster commonly found here. The reason why I thought you were evil was because there have been other people from earth who were also transported to this world."
Hearing that I'm not the first person from earth to arrive here was somewhat of a relief for me. That means that other people have also experienced what I experienced. Maybe they can help me out.
"At first we thought that those people who came to earth were harmless and that they could help improve our world with their knowledge, but we were wrong. Those people played nice for a while until they understood how to use the magic in our world. Then they started killing alot of people and destroyed entire villages."
So that's why she thinks I'm evil. I guess that's understandable. That also means that I'm not gonna get any help from those people. This is alot for me to wrap my head around. I'm no longer on earth and the world I'm currently in has magic, large rats, and a strong hatred for earth. Great, just great.
"Look, I'm sorry that people from my world have caused alot of trouble in your world, but you have to believe me when I say that not everyone from earth is evil, including me."
Judging by her look, the girl is still not fully convinced. She still thinks that I might be evil, despite me repeatedly telling her that I'm not.
"Earth isn't an evil world. There are tons of innocent people on earth and we have a society with laws, which means that we do not like evil people. Maybe the reason why those before me are evil could probably be due to portals opening up in a prison, which is full of evil people. I can assure you that most of us are about as evil as the average person in your world, I think."
After hearing that, the girl showed me a faint smile. "My name's Saliza, and your name is?"
I felt somewhat at ease after realizing that she finally decided to trust me a bit.
"My name is Zeigel, it's nice to meet you Saliza."
Saliza agreed to show me the way out of this place and explain to me more about this world, but before we could make our way out of here, the grus rat from earlier came out of a patch of grass behind us and snarled at us. There were more rats hiding inside the grass patch.
We figured that we could easily fend off a few rats so we tried to fight it. Unfortunately for us, that rat called out its entire pack which emerged from the grass patch.
It was obvious that we can't fend off that many rats so we ran for our lives.
