Capítulo 10: Chapter 10: Joy's Rejection
Fallon saw Light's necklace and was entralled by it. She remembered its pattern and wondered where she can get the same one.
Light looked at his necklace and smiled as Joy looked at hers too, realizing that the time she had on it had changed. They exchanged happy glances as their Literature teacher discussed something from William Shakespeare's book : A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Joy was the kind of person who rarely makes mistake at an exam- but this time, she created it intentionally, because she thought that maybe Fallon wanted to beat her. And she did saw a glimpse of hope in her eyes. Light noticed this and grinned because of Joy's smile.
After the lecture, Light approached Joy who was still smirking. "You seem to be happy today." he said and turned to the window.
"You bet I am." she said, and looked at Light who seemed to be enjoying himself while watching the soccer practice match happening below. From her point of view, Light looked like someone she knows- like a home that never was.
"Say, Light, are you an angel?" she asked, out of the blue.
"If you say I am, then I am." Light replied and grinned widely.
"I don't think so." Nick said from the back, who was looking at Light. "No angel can be so cold like you, Light."
Light scanned his eyes, making Nick back away because of his eerieness. "Right, if you say I'm not, them I'm not."
"There you go again. Come play soccer with us. Henry and I are going. Do you want to go?" he said. Joy started to react because she doesn't know how Light will take him, but he talked.
"I don't know anything about soccer. But if you teach me..."
It was settled then. Light went to play soccer with Henry and Nick. Even if Joy wanted to watch him, she had duties with Fallon for the school paper. They went to the office without saying a word to each other, but Fallon seemed to be on a good mood.
" Welcome, my chief editors," their adviser said as all the other members of the board had already been seated. "We'll be talking about schedules for this year- but first of all, Congratulations Joy, for being the Editor-in-chief and Fallon, the Associate. Let's clap for them." then the meeting commenced.
"We'll be conducting the try-outs next Monday, then we'll have all the articles lined up and passed next month, just in time for the competition for the best publication. These papers needed to be posted." their adviser pointed out the pile of papers beside him. "I suppose second years can take care of those." then there was a loud 'yes sir!' from the 3 second years while Fallon did the minutes of the meeting. It was about 15 minutes before the meeting was adjourned, and Joy spotted Fallon to be hurrying.
"Fallon!" she yelled and approached her. "Do you want to watch our classmates' soccer match?"
"No thanks." she said and left her standing there while the other journalists who were with them at the meeting were shocked to see her attitude. Joy understood her because she thought that if she was Fallon, she would have hated herself too. She just watched her leave and she started walking after a while, hoping to watch Light's first time playing soccer.
"Hey~" Mari popped out of nowhere and dragged her towards the field. Joy saw the cuts of Mari and wondered why she wasn't her mission, because she clearly needed her help.
