Capítulo 5: Mimicked

After giving Mako a grand tour of her home, Sam brought him back to the living room and sat him down in front of her large flat screen tv situated at the front of the room. After flicking it on and giving the young boy a quick run down on how to utilize the remote control, the redhead left him alone. She did stand there for a few minutes to watch his expressions as he flicked through the channels, his tail wagging rapidly back and forth, but after she was sure he wasn't going to be moving any time soon, she left.

Though it seemed rather dumb to leave alone a kid who had only just recently been introduced to the world, she had her reasons. Sam still had a shitload of work to do regarding the young hybrid and the majority of it was getting the kid situated into the system. Though the scientists worked for a faction of the government, it would still take some time to set everything up even if they got assistance from the higher ups.

She still had sign him up for preschool, obtain a social security, a birth certificate, and whole bunch of other necessary items that the child would need in order to completely fit into society. Not everything could simply be handed to her on a silver platter and most of the items had to be filled out by herself before being submitted to the government for approval. It was an annoyingly long and arduous process that almost made her want to just homeschool the boy, but then that would go against the plan to shove him into the world and see how it affected him. This was something that had to be done no matter how much she just wanted to sit down and watch an episode of Dr. Stone.

Stepping into her room, Sam closed the door behind her. Her room was similar in regards to the main parts of the house only it was marginally smaller. Anime and pop culture posters and figurines were scattered about in a somewhat organized fashion, a collection that represented just how much of an otaku Sam happened to be. Though the room was cluttered, it was managed in a way that made it simple to walk through, allowing Sam to easily walk towards her large oak desk positioned cross from her bed.

"Alright, guess it's time for me to get to work," Sam muttered underneath her breath as she powered up her laptop. "First things first, lets get all the important information written and submitted."

In regards to personal information necessary for Mako, all Sam had to do was make stuff up. His birth certificate was easy to create as she just listed two non-existent entities whose background would never be looked into. The only real problem for her was the sheer amount of paperwork she had to fill out or create. It would most likely take her a few hours to finish it all so she had to get started as soon as possible.

After taking a deep breath, Sam immersed herself into her work, not looking away from her screen for even a minute for the next four hours. Time seemed to fly by as the next time she glanced up, the outside of the window was dark, not a speck of sunlight left. It didn't really matter to her much though as she herself knew it would take some time to finish.

With all the crucial information written and submitted, Sam was feeling a lot better, albeit somewhat stiff from sitting in one place for such a long time. Her neck and back ached slightly as she stood up from her seat, stretching herself out briefly before shutting off her screen and closing the laptop.

It would take approximately a week for her to receive any sort of response and even longer for her to get the final documents, about two weeks to a month. Once she had the finalized papers, she could begin enrolling Mako into preschool, throwing him into a class full of other kids his own age. As this was a social experiment, every little bit of interaction with others counted now matter how brief or inconsequential. Preschool was good starting line and would allow her to assess the current level that Mako was at.

Opening the door to her room, Sam walked into the living room. The television was still on, fixed on the Discovery Channel, and the sound had dropped down to mere background noise as the young wolf hybrid sat to the side.

The ground was littered with the manga that had been placed neatly on the bookshelf, Mako sitting in the center of the mess of books. At first glance, the books appeared to have been tossed aside or placed haphazardly without any sort of order, but after a second look Sam had a different look of it all. None of the booklets had any damage done to them which showed that they hadn't been thrown around carelessly. On the contrary, each one looked clean and fresh, the same as the day she got it.

(("He looked through them with care. Did he realize how important they were to me?")) Sam bent down and picked up one of the mangas lying near her feet, the big blocky letters of ONE PIECE jumping out at her. (("He's just an experiment with no knowledge of the outside world. There's no way he could have known how much they were worth and just what they mean me. So why did he treat them with so much care and respect?"))

Sam looked over at Mako who was immersed in the middle of another One Piece manga, his eyes flickering across the page. She knew he couldn't read the words and it was quite obvious he was just glancing at the pictures but even so, it was still quite amazing to watch him sit down and skim over the pages. Even if the manga had been damaged, she probably wouldn't even have gotten upset due to how cute the small child was with his twitching ears and fluffy tail.

"Hey Mako, whatcha reading?" Sam asked after watching the young boy for a minute longer. She rose to her feet and walked over to him, a smile on her face as she knelt down once again. "Reading that manga from earlier? You must have really liked the picture on the cover."

Mako looked up from the book, his bright blue eyes meeting Sam's green one. Even if his expressions gave nothing away, his swishing tail gave her all the info she needed. "Yeah....it looks.....nice."

The fiery redhead rose to her feet and began to collect the manga that Mako had already finished. She had been debating it for some time but now she was almost certain. She wanted to try to adopt a dog and then see how this young man reacted to it. She had so much time to waste before she got the papers that she couldn't help but test out various scenarios currently spawning in her head.

Taking the child to the zoo to see if the animals would react to this hybrid of sorts, testing his intelligence level to see just how clever he was or could be, and even teaching him some self defense to see how quickly he could pick it up. There were so many things she wanted to try that she wanted to get started right away, but she forced herself to calm down.

Before she started anything she had to first get the youngling settled in. For now, feeding him and getting him to bed was the main goal and everything else could be put off. Rushing things before Mako was ready could prove detrimental to further testing. She had to constantly remind herself that this was still a child and shouldn't be regarded as an animal or plaything.

"Maybe I'll make him some meat," Sam said as she slipped the books neatly onto their proper shelves. "He's part wolf so he should like any meat dish I put out. Maybe lamb chops?"

As Sam was busy cleaning up, Mako was once again gazing at the television, his eyes glued to the screen. He watched as enormous sharks swam across the large screen, his ears twitching every so often. Never once did he bother to move until Sam eventually came to get him, shutting off the TV.

"Oi, come on Mako," Sam nodded her head towards the kitchen, two full plates of food in her hand. "Lets go and eat some food. I'm sure you'll love this."

Mako immediately stood up, his large tail raising up until it was slightly over his head, the fluffy appendage waving in the air. He could be seen visibly sniffing as he made his way over, attempting to glance at the plate in Sam's hands but failed to do so as the woman was far taller.

"Well, lets have a seat then shall we." Sam set the plate onto the dining room table, pulling the chair back for Mako to sit.

After the two were situated in their respective chairs, it was time to chow down. Sam immediately set out to tackle her lamb chops which were near perfection, juicy and tender enough while still a bit chewy. Though she was hungry and wanted to tear her plate apart, she retained most of her table manners, occasionally wiping her mouth off with a napkin. Glancing over at Mako, Sam wasn't surprised to see that she had been copied.

Instead of eating like a slob like one would expect, Mako had clearly waited and watched Sam eat before touching his own food. Everything about the way she ate, sat, and even wiped her mouth seemed to be mimicked down to the smallest detail without error. It was almost like he had grown up with proper table manners as there wasn't much she could teach him.

(("So he has the ability to copy and mimic what he sees with just a single glance? Or is it that he remembers what he sees and just practices it until he gets it right?")) Sam took a bite of her mashed potatoes as she watched Mako, of which was watching her in return. (("What about a photographic memory? That could be another possibility. Maybe he can pick up on things at a super human level?"))

She had so many questions running through her head that she was afraid she'd explode. As this was new and unexplored territory that hadn't yet been reached, there was nothing to compare it to. Mako was the first and only one of his kind, separate even from his other experimental brothers and sisters. She was blind in all aspects which made each and every idea she had a possibility that couldn't be overlooked. Even something as simple as eating had caused numerous questions to take root.

"More! I have to know more!" Sam was determined to figure out Mako's copying ability first thing tomorrow morning.
