Capítulo 5: A Fateful Encounter
"Valerie?! What are you doing here?!" hindi makapaniwalang tanong ni Keanne.
"Hahahaha, surprise! Dito na ako mag-aaral Keanne," sagot naman ni Valerie.
"Wait, how? When? Bakit hindi mo sinabing dadating k--- "
Valerie jumped to hug him. "I missed you."
Hindi maka-imik si Keanne.
The warmth of her skin around his neck is very comforting. The sweet strawberry scent of her shampoo overwhelmed him.
He then wrapped his hands around her waist and whispered, "I missed you more."
Nang mapansing nakatitig ang mga tao sa kanila, agad din silang kumalas sa pagyayakapan. Namumula ang mukhang umiwas ng tingin and dalawa sa isa't-isa.
"Krriiinnng!"
"Whhhhatt! Naman eh," naiinis na sabi ni Keanne. "Time na Val."
"Right," naiinis ding sagot ni Valerie. "We better get going now. See you around Keanne!" paalam ni Valerie habang madaling lumalakad papalayo.
"See you around Val. I'll send you a friend request. Be sure to accept it, okay?" pahabol namang paalam ni Keanne.
Valerie just raised a thumbs up and immediately ran off.
Habang naglalakad pabalik sa kanilang silid, hindi maiwasan ni Keanne na mapangiti sa nangyari. Agad niyang hinanap ang pangalan ng kababata sa social media.
"Valerie Salvador. Hmmm. Ayun! Add friend. Yan."
Paliko na sana siya nang makita niya ang iilang estudyanteng nagkukumpulan malapit sa bulletin board. "Uy Keanne, lika dito!" tawag sa kaniya ni Ruth na nandoon. Lumapit si Keanne sa kaniya. "Hindi daw papasok si ma'am ngayon kaya nandito kami," sabi ng kaklase.
"What's going on?" tanong ni Keanne.
"Ahh. May bagong post. Mga nakuha daw sa university choir," sagot naman ni Ruth.
"Owww, I see."
"Uhmm, gotta go Keanne! Check mo na name mo diyan," paalam sa kaniya ni Ruth.
"Oww, okay. Thanks!"
Nakipagsik-sikan si Keanne sa mga nagkumpulan. Sa bulletin board nakalagay ang mga katagang "Congratulations to the following students. You are now officially part of the Central South Philippine University Choir!"
Agad niyang hinanap ang pangalan sa nakapaskil.
"Hmmmmmm lemme see. Not on the first page. Hmm, let's see the next one, hmmmmm… none. Tsk!" Nakatungo si Keanne na tumalikod sa bulletin board. "Guess I still have a lot to work on."
Paalis na sana siya nang may humatak sa kaniyang bag. Nilingon niya ito.
"Your name's there at the bottom. Silly," Courinne said with a grim face and immediately walked away.
"Uhh, thanks Ko," ang tanging nasabi ni Keanne.
Hinanap ulit ni Keanne ang pangalan at sa ibabang bahagi na siya naghanap. Also, to the following students, please come to the Audio-Visual Hall this afternoon Wednesday June 11, 2014. Keanne Collins and Kyle Mendez.
"Patay! Ngayong araw na to! Hmmm, I wonder why," nagtatakang sabi ni Keanne.

Pagkatapos ng kanilang last period, agad na pumunta si Keanne sa Audio-Visual Hall at nadatnan doon si Kyle.
"Are you by chance Keanne Collins?" salubong na tanong sa kaniya ni Kyle.
"Ah eh, hehe yes I am,�� sagot naman ni Keanne. "You're Kyle right?"
"Yes," Kyle answered smiling, showing off those crooked teeth with braces.
"Nice to meet you." Nagkamayan ang dalawa. "Uhhh anyways Kyle, alam mo ba ang reason kung bakit tayo ipinatawag dito?"
Kyle removed his glasses and wiped it with the bottom of his polo uniform. "It's because we're still under observation. Which means, they're still unsure kung kukunin ba nila tayo o hindi," sagot niya.
"But why not decide already? Kailangan pa talaga pa thrill eh no," pahayag ni Keanne.
"Sinabi mo pa!" tugon naman ni Kyle.
Naputol ang pag-uusap ng dalawa nang dumating ang old and new members ng choir kasama ang isang gwapo at medyo may kaputiang lalaki.
"Who's he?" tanong ni Keanne sa kasama nitong nakangisi habang nakatitig sa lalaking kasama ng choir members.
"Hehehe. That's Dalton Gomez, current director ng choir. He's handling both college and us, senior highs sa choir."
"Ahhh, ganun ba. Delton Go---"
"Hello, mic test. Mic test check…" Dalton John stood in front. "Two guys at the back, I believe you're Keanne and Kyle, please come here in front and get your audition forms."
Lumapit ang dalawa sa harapan at bumaba naman ang direktor sa stage upang kausapin sila.
"Hey guys, uhhhhm, thanks for coming! Here, these forms contain comments on your audition last time. But it mostly emphasized your strengths and weaknesses. You're maybe wondering why we invited you to this moment. Well, as of now, you are under observation," eksplinasyon ni Dalton sa dalawa.
Tumango naman si Keanne at Kyle bilang pagtugon sa kaniya.
Nagpatuloy ang director. "Now, what I want to happen is for you to enhance your strengths and overcome your weaknesses. And you have to do this within a month. By that, we can then finally decide whether you're in or out."
Napalunok ng laway si Kyle. Habang sa isip ni Keanne, "I don't really care about the choir though, I just want to seek answers from her that's why I came here."
"Will that be fine with you guys?" tanong ni Dalton sa dalawa.
"Yeah sure!" sagot ni Kyle. "Uhuh, I guess so," sagot naman ni Keanne.
"Great!" Dalton exclaimed while clapping both hands. "Now, kindly take your seats because I still have important announcements later on."
Sumunod naman ang dalawa.
"Hey Keanne, look what I got here," nakangising sabi ni Kyle habang ipinapakita kay Keanne ang form na ibinigay sa kanila. Strength: He has good voice quality Weakness: Cannot read notes and a bit tone deaf. "That's a bit harsh right? Hahahaha. Atleast may strength di'ba?"
"Well---"
"How about yours, what did it say?" excited na tanong ni Kyle sa kasama.
"Naaah. That's nothing. Don't mind i---"
Alistong dinukot ni Kyle ang form mula sa kamay ng kasama. Hindi na nakapalag pa si Keanne.
"Strength: He has perfect pitch ability. Weakness: Average voice quality"
"Wow! That's awesome dude! Yours is better I must say. Here gimme a fist bump," Kyle commented.
Keanne thought Kyle's acting a bit odd and funny but he didn't mind it.
"Fist bump," sagot ni Keanne sa kasamang naka fist-bump gesture sa ere.
"Mic test check. Ahem… Okay," bumalik si Dalton sa stage. "Good afternoon everyone! Congratulations for coming this far. By the way, my name is Dalton Gomez, fourth year Information Technology student and I will be your Choir director for this academic year. May all of us unite together and treat each one as family for the following days to come."
The crowd applauded.
Dalton beamed proudly.
He continued. "Senior High members, don't think that you will have the road of luxury just because you're still senior highs. The Senior High University Choir serves as your training ground in order to become competitive singers when you reach college level. Of course, chosen members from your level will compete against the other senior high school students here in our region. So please be aware and do not slack off. We the seniors are willing to guide you along the path to success."
"Psssh! He thinks it's just that easy eh but we can't even beat the choir from the Bukidnon Capital City University. Haha," komento ng lalaking nasa likuran ni Keanne.
Nairita si Keanne sa narinig ngunit pinili na lamang na manahimik.
"Could you please shut up!" nagulat si Keanne nang si Kyle ang nagpatahimik sa lalaki.
Keanne smirked. He was glad he's sitting beside Kyle. He thinks Kyle is cooler than he thought
Maya maya pa, may isang lalaking lumapit sa kanilang kina-uupuan. "Hi my name is Gian. Welcome to the group!"
Sumagot si Keanne. "Ah eh, actually, we're not official mem---"
"Hello kuya, thank you po," mabilis na pagputol ni Kyle kay Keanne.
Patuloy pa rin sa pagsasalita si Dalton sa harapan.
"Okay to those who aren't aware, I might be the choir director. But as a student at the same time, I cannot handle both Senior High and College choir simultaneously. I want this year to be the best time for the choir guys that's why, I personally hired a person that will assist me in handling the group. She has an immense talent and leadership skills. She's won various awards in just a year in almost every field.
I know you guys are excited to meet her. However, she texted me that she will be late due to her class schedule. But don't worry she'll definitely come.
As for the under observation and fresh members, you will be spending a lot of time with her. It's a special session I am giving you with her so yeah. With that, your qualifications will be tested *wink*"
"Sugoii," komento ng isang bagong miyembro.
Kyle turned his head and smiled to Keanne, "Let's do our best!"
Keanne smiled back at him. "Yeah."
"Fist bump," "Fist bump"
Maya maya pa ay bumukas ang pinto ng hall.
The skies outside turned gray. The pelting sound of raindrops started making its noise. Inside the audio visual hall, someone arrived.
Keanne's heart beats fast.
"Oh there she is!" pagpapatuloy ni Dalton sa mikropono. "Ladies and gentlemen please welcome your senior choir director, Ms. Maigne Ortega."
Maigne went inside. Her short hair is bouncing as she rapidly walked towards the center of the stage.
When she got there, everyone is in awe.
Maigne's fair skin is shining. Her uniform really looks good on her. Her looks are indeed stunning.
She adjusted her eyeglass on her nose and smiled widely to the crowd.
However, slowly by slowly, her smile became thin.
She noticed him on the crowd.
Their eyes met.
The feeling of disbelief dominated her. After all those times, they met! And will see each other almost every day.
She sighed.
Keanne too is in disbelief.
He stared at her intently and said to himself "Well, this is it I guess? There's no turning back."
