Capítulo 24: More Magic

I opened my eyes to see a medium sized bear growling at me. I yawned and looked back to Lyndis, who was still asleep in her tree, before processing what was happening to me. 'Wait... did it just wake me up?' as I realized what had happened, I stared at the bear menacingly while releasing my aura until it ran away. In most cases, I would kill anybody that woke me up, but it was just an adolescent bear so I let it live. As I looked around again, I realized that when Lyndis wakes up and sees me, it will be very awkward. And there would probably be a lot of screaming, which I really don't want. Thinking through my options, I decided to try and transform the same way Lyndis does, as I know that it can work. The description for Form included 'other species with multiple forms' so I might be able to use it. It says the process is to use magic and forcefully change my constitution. To start with, I will try to turn my left fore leg into a wolf's leg. I definitely didn't choose this simply because I wanted to touch something fluffy. Totally not. Anyway, extrapolating from what I saw when Lyndis transformed, I tried to used the mana in my body to manipulate my body. The next moment, a massive amount of pain rushed into my brain, and I could hardly stop myself from roaring in pain. Luckily, the feeling of my bones shattering stopped quickly, causing me to flop to the ground, panting. 'I really hope this worked. That was way too much pain for it not to work.' I moved my leg in front of me to see a large, white, fluffy paw invade my vision. I scrambled back in shock, but to my horror it kept following me. Eventually I fell over and calmed down, 'That was... surprisingly effective. The pain was still to much though.' Just to check, I tried to use Inspect on my newly transformed leg.

I think I'm getting a better understanding of what Inspect really is. It seems to be less of a magical ability, and more of a explicit summary of my own senses. For example, I can generally already tell how strong something is without using Inspect, but I use it anyway because 'reading' the information makes it more understandable than interpreting my instincts. This would explain why I can find out that Lyndis has the blood of some primordial beast, but not what the name of that beast is; I do not know the names of any primordial beasts. It would also explain why the extended explanation for my wolf form is just 'Fluffy'.

After confirming my thoughts, I lay down on my new wolf-like arm and, to my delight, it certainly was fluffy. I never had the chance to come into contact with fluffy things because all animals run away from me. Now that I have finally experienced this bliss, I realize what a tragedy it was. I am willing to go through that pain every time if I got to experience this fluffiness, but it would be much better if I could do so without hurting myself. 'Maybe this is why the transformation skill is classed as imperfect' I thought. However, even if I know what I'm aiming for in terms of skills, that doesn't mean I know what the process actually is.

After thinking through the process and reading the description for my transformation again, I decided on a method; 'It talks about using mana to forcefully change what us already in my body, so what if I turn my body into mana and use that to create a different body out of mana?' It sounded extremely dangerous, so I was going to try it on my arm again. 'Transform!' I thought, gritting my teeth and waiting for the pain. Luckily, no pain came; all I felt was a little tickle. As I looked down at my leg, I noticed that it was back to normal and I could move it normally. So, just to make sure, I switched my leg's form a few more times. First, a deep purple and pink mist would emerge from my arm, obscuring it from view, then I feel a light tingling sensation, then the mist is absorbed by my changed appendage. The entire process took about one second and wasn't very flashy. Even with all this testing, I was still quite apprehensive about changing into a human form, as my brain would have to change size, and I don't know whether I could survive that. I'll just keep experimenting until I build up the courage to try it.

Over the next hour I tried transforming into different sizes and forms. I started with small changes in size, until eventually getting to about the size of a horse. At one point I tried to create another body the same way I used Transform, but it took way too much mana to create anything. This was still quite confusing, because if it took that much mana to create any matter, how is it that I can return to my normal form easily, even if it is bigger than the form I am in? That aside, I now had the confidence to change into any size, as it seemed that changing my body size didn't impact me much, which is very surprising. I could greet Lyndis as a cute, miniature version of myself and she probably wouldn't get too panicked, but I do have some pride; even if it's only for a few select things. In a similar way, with Transform I could easily be female, which would also make Lyndis less likely to scream, but, again, my pride wont let me. On the other hand, it wont stop me from using Transform to confuse and/or prank people if I get the opportunity. After deliberating on the subject of how I should look for a while, I decided to try and transform into a human form with no concrete idea in my mind; I couldn't settle on one particular look, so I decided on whatever was natural. When I reformed, I noticed that my front legs had become arms, and I was standing upright. I looked just like a human, except that my back felt too heavy. I looked over my shoulder, and saw that I still had shining silver wings. Confused, I used Inspect.

Transform (Perfect)

Change the constitution of beings through mana manipulation. Also allows partial control over strength expression.

Wolf

Dragon

Dragon kin

Appears mostly human, but with wings, horns and a tail.

It seems like I still don't have a human form. This seems like it is quite easy to fix though, as I just need to remove the leftover dragon parts. When I thought that, my wings, tail and horns disappeared without the usual purple haze. As it wasn't what i was expecting, I used Inspect again.

---

Dragon kin

Appears mostly human with dragon wings, horns and tail. Can hide these body parts at will.

'The description changed? Well as long as I don't have to put as much effort in, I'm happy.' As I didn't have any clothes, I experimented until I found that I could transform my scales into clothes, which I promptly did, modelling my outfit on Lyndis' clothes and what I saw the hero party wearing. I thought that my appearance wasn't going to get any better, and tried to move towards Lyndis. However, I had never been in a human body before, so I immediately fell over. After a few tries at walking, I got used to it. I think my high dexterity might have helped. As I was testing out how flexible my new body is, Lyndis started to wake up.
