The plot of death note (The Original) is about a teenage genius who is bored with the world. He stumbles upon a death note left behind by a death god who is equally bored with his god-like realm. The main character (Light Yagami) then picks up the death note which kills anyone whose name is written in the notebook.
He begins his rain as Kira but shortly after it's beginning a strange man, a highly trained detective, who goes simply by the name of L tricks the Light into revealing his whereabouts in the world.
This is where Kira's rain of terror and the mighty battle between two intellectual titans began...
