After giving my prayers to Mother Nefertiti, I step into Master Thelowar's mansion through the side doors. I shake off the remaining bits of sand and greet the other servants that arrive at around the same time as me. They all nod their heads before scurrying off to do their duties. I close my small cubby holding my cloak, and retie my ponytail. I glance at my reflection in a mirror on the wall.
One side of my face still looked a bit swollen after being slapped by that old lady. Otherwise, I look pretty clean. I blew a few stray hairs out of my face and walked over to a wash station to start my daily duties. I get jostled by a few servants as they rush around me carrying around pails of dirty and clean water.
"All you servants need to make sure every part of this mansion gets cleaned thoroughly every day," head maid Carla announces, "I want the floors so clean that I can see my reflection in the tiles. Some nobles will be arriving at the mansion earlier than the day of the banquet, and thus, I need your cooperation to ensure that their stays here will be pleasant."
She finishes with that, and with a click of her heels, she walks away with the other higher-grade maids to attend to the family. Someone handed me a bucket of water and pushed me towards the stairs.
Sigh….It was going to be a tiring day.
....
The three flights of stairs were cleaned so shiny to the point it would make you feel bad to walk on it. I looked at the marble tiles and the gold linings. I stretched my shoulders and cracked my knuckles. It was almost noon and I wanted to leave the mansion as soon as possible just so I could see my Leela, and get to my other part-time job from the bakery upstairs my home.
I glanced at my clock and got prepared to check out. It was a peaceful day since most of the Thelowar's were probably busy with the upcoming banquet. I rolled my shoulders as I stamped my thumb on a magic-operated mechanical system that automatically checked you in and out. I quickly put all my stuff back and grabbed my cloak to leave. Other servants started to filter in for the evening shift and I quickly headed out.
I smiled up at the sky, as the sun hit my face with its warm rays.
One day done, another one to go.
....
I was at the outskirts of Karandish in about half an hour and I looked at the blazing sand storm. Yep, it was going to be a long walk home. I sighed and tied my cloak tighter around myself. I bent my head down, enough so I can keep the sand out of my eyes, but still be able to look up as well. I kicked back for momentum, and then I started to run. I ran and ran, but I kept on getting a weird feeling tingling at the bottom of my stomach. My butt started to itch as well. Something wasn't right. I looked around me, and it was harder to tell where I was. I got out a compass and it pointed East. I was running in the right direction but…
VROOOOOOOOOM.
I heard a van coming from a distance. It's blue tarp flapping in the air, and the engine shuddering violently from the speed it was driving at. What the hell….? The two guys at the front smiled and I finally noticed him. Cigarette boy looked so pissed, and I knew what he was going to do.
"Shit!" I cursed as I tried running faster.
I can't outrun a van, but what am I supposed to do when two boys were out to murder me in the middle of the dessert. This is insane...they could have just reported me! Why did they have to chase after me as well???
"OYYYYY! YOU MAD DOG! WE ARE GONNA ROUGH YOU UP REAL GOOD WHEN WE LAY OUR HANDS ON YOU!" the guy with the cigarette dangling from his mouth barked out the window.
I gulped. The wind was picking up and was forcing me back, all chances of me outrunning the van were gone as the sand struck against my face. I felt someone hold my cloak from the back. If I used magic, then I might bring more trouble and attention to myself. I had to fight them, square on. There was no use outrunning them in this condition, they might just run me over with their van.
I stopped struggling and the boy pulled my cloak down and grabbed my neck roughly. The driver stopped driving and I pretended to go limp. The boy shook me and he laughed.
"She's a weak bitch, Krithik," he snickered as he pushed me to the ground.
I stood up again trying to see who I was up against. The boy was probably fourteen at most and the other with the cigarette was probably around my age or a bit younger. I was a bit taller than the younger boy, but the other named Krithik came up to the same height as me. He stopped the engine, and in the middle of the blistering and storming dessert, we stood staring at each other.
I wasn't scared, but I could tell what intentions they had and I didn't want to play along in their stupid game. I pulled down my cloak and glared at them. Krithik threw his cigarette to the side and walked to me. He stood close to my face, our nose only inches apart.
"What do you want to do now, girly?" he teased as he gripped my shirt in his hands.
I didn't answer him, and he grew more aggravated.
"Pay for the damages you caused us," he spat at my shoes before looking up.
The other boy came behind me and held my arms from the back. Such a useless technique, I snorted. The Krithik dude narrowed his eyes. His shaved head looked sweaty from the heat and looked at how shiny his scalp looked.
"Bitch, look at me when I am talking to you, okay?" he growled in my face.
Ya, I am done playing with petty babies.
I looked at him uninterestedly before head butting him in the nose. At the same time, I kicked the boy's shin from behind me. They both crouched down in pain, and I delivered swift punches to their heads and pushed them away from me. If I remember, they left the keys in the ignition. Though I wanted to beat their asses up, I still felt kind of guilty for not paying them, and leaving them in a bleeding mess.
"I don't have time to play with shits like you," I said to the guys who were moaning on the ground, "stop ruining your lives and do something better with your time."
I walked over to the car and got in the seat. The guys looked shocked but Krithik looked up at me, even though his nose was pouring with blood.
"I could say the same, little girl," he licked his lips even coated with the blood and I flicked him my finger.
I heard him cackling as I left them and drove off. I zoomed towards Palawan Town and I reached it in around ten minutes. I didn't want to get off at the parking lot and decided to take my usual path by walking over the hills. I tried slowing down next to some nearby trees when all of a sudden the brakes didn't work. I cursed internally. That's why he was laughing.
Thank the lord I didn't put my seatbelt on. I looked to the door on my side and prepared to open it, but found it jammed. Even the door from the passenger side. My feet were off the gas pedal but the van still drove at a really fast speed. At this rate, I would probably fly off the hill and crash into a building, or I can swerve the car and drive into nowhere and come back again by running. But, I didn't know how long I would have to drive before getting somewhere.
I thought about driving in circles for a while before I heard a crack. The steering wheel I was gripping broke and I couldn't control the direction of the wheels. The steering wheel has been wrapped with so much tape that it was bound to fall off at any time. Crap, it's like he knew something like this was going to happen and let me go on purpose. I looked at the upcoming hill and I started to sweat.
Damn, I came this far. I wasn't ready to die in vain like this. I looked around me. The only option I had was the window. I prayed that it would crank down, and I almost burst into tears when it did. I could have exited out through the back, but there were metal bars that separated the back from the front, and even a spell to cut through them would take some time. I had one option and it was through the window. I cranked it down as low as it could go, and even though the car slowed down a bit it was still running towards the hill.
The window stopped cranking down and I started to panic. In my panic, I started to form a crazy idea that was equally risky and dangerous but here goes nothing. I wrapped my fist with my cloak and punched at the glass. It broke after a few quick punches and my knuckles started to hurt. I kept cracking them and I felt the car start to run up the hill. The glass broke away and I didn't waste any time in sticking my leg out. Some of the glass pieces cut into my thighs and I winced. It was just poking me, I grabbed a rail on top of the van and suddenly I felt the van close to the top of the hill. Both my feet were on the door now and I crouched to leap onto a rock in the distance when the car fully stopped.
This time, it started to roll back and the front of the car was going to do a full 180! I panicked. My form was shifted and now I either had to jump out and land on those rocks or I can continue to roll down the hill with the car. I decided to jump out.
"AHHHHHHH!" I screamed as I jumped from my weird position and soared through the air before landing on a bunch of rocks.
The car started to roll down the hill faster and faster than before. It finally stopped when it landed on a few rocks from the side of the pathway. Thank the lord, I chose the former option. I shuddered as I thought of what could have happened. The car suddenly burst into flames and I was shocked as I watched some parts burst into the sky. The flames continued to burn, and I laid down on the rocks.
Shit keeps piling on me today, huh.
