"Come have a seat!" Livelier than usual, Vivian Xi invited Matthew Xi over to have his dinner.
Glancing at his mother's countenance, Matthew Xi walked towards the dining table and perched on the seat. As soon as he sat, Vivian Xi perched on the head seat and served her son.
"Son, can you tell me more about that stranger?" When Matthew Xi began eating, Vivian Xi didn't go around in a circle as she probed.
Matthew Xi slowly chewed the piece of meat and turned to his mother's excited countenance. "There's a reason why people call others a stranger — we know nothing about them." Matthew Xi responded as he gulped down the food.
"Then, do you want to know her? I can set you up with her if you like!" Ignoring the hint from his son, Vivian Xi giddily suggested.
Although Vivian Xi rarely guesses what her son was thinking, Matthew Xi wouldn't blind her in this matter. Hence, she wouldn't let this talk go easily unless Matthew Xi cooperated.
"Mom..."
"Son," Raising her brows, Vivian Xi smiled which made him frown and sigh.
"She won't be seeing me. She's not interesting but weird." Matthew Xi figured that his mother wouldn't give him a break unless he satiate her curiosity. Therefore, he'd rather tell her half of everything than keep her in the dark and be nagged by his mother.
"Weird? Isn't that almost the same as interesting?" Pleased that Matthew Xi finally understood her determination, Vivian Xi teased.
Her son was weird himself. Also, she knew her son well — he liked weird stuffs. Hence, if he says the woman was weird, in Vivian Xi's perspective, it might have a different meaning.
His statement was just too complex that she could be perceived it one way or the other.
"Does it matter?" Arching his brows, Matthew Xi glanced at his mother before resuming on eating.
"Wait..." Matthew Xi's nonchalance made Vivian Xi's eyes to narrow. Recalling the keywords he said seconds ago, Vivian Xi jerked her chin up. "What do you mean she won't see you?" She probed.
A faint sigh escaped Matthew Xi's lips as he placed down his chopsticks. Turning to his mother's investigative pair of eyes, another sigh slipped from his mouth. "I told her not to." He answered, dead in the eye.
"You said what?"
"I said what I said, and she didn't care too. That's that. It's not like we knew each other that long." Matthew Xi retracted his gaze away from his mother as he picked up the chopsticks again.
Although he was first bothered that he might be too harsh on her, Zoey's reaction seemed she was fine. The reason he was unknowingly disappointed.
After all, Zoey had always shown interest towards him. Within that short time they knew each other, Zoey did a lot of things for him.
Yet, at the end of the day, Matthew Xi understood how little importance Zoey had for him. He wasn't surprised though... she's a liar — at least, in his eyes she was.
Just as Matthew Xi was about to shove the piece of vegetable inside his mouth, he nearly choked upon the loud smack on his back. Turning to his mother, Matthew Xi coughed.
"This little...!" Grinding her teeth, Vivian Xi peered at her dense son in disbelief. "Did you tell her to scram?! Did you tell her to get her filthy being away from you?! Aish! This...!" Asking the obvious, Vivian Xi guessed what kind of treatment his son did to the poor young lady. Hence, just thinking about it, she smacked him in the shoulder many times.
"Mom...! Aah!" One after another slap in the shoulder, Matthew Xi complained but his mother was too frustrated she vented on his shoulder.
"I can't believe you!" After venting her frustration on his broad shoulder, Vivian Xi spat before a heavy scoff slipped from her mouth. "Go, apologize to her! Tell her you didn't mean it!"
"What?" His brows twitched, the slight sting on his shoulder numbed upon hearing Vivian Xi's last remarks.
"Matthew Xi, go and apologize to her right now! How can you be so insensitive? I can't believe I raised a jerk like you." Placing her palms on her hips, Vivian Xi ordered and peered at him from head to toe.
"How can you know she doesn't care, ah? Acting nonchalant doesn't mean she really don't care — it's what you call keeping your pride even if someone crushed it." Still sounding upset, Vivian Xi was tempted to smack him with some senses.
"If you don't apologize to her now, I'll disown you!" Carried away by her emotions, Vivian Xi declared which made his eyes widened.
How did this thing escalated to this point?
